Actually if you listen to the interview with the Navy spokesmen the decision was entirely left to the commanders at the scene. Obama did nothing, which was the right thing to do. In other words his administration did not interfere with the work of the professionals at the scene. He will take full credit for this that is to be expected as a politician and will get a boost in the polls. But HE did nothing other than not interfere!

Lincoln never served in the military either, yet presided over one of the most important [if not thee most] wars we ever had. Obama's lack of military experience is not a strike against him in my book.

Not at all, I meant that the decision was entirely left to the commander on scene the Captain of the Bainbridge. Obama made no decisions at the tactical level though by tomorrow his administration will attempt to share in the laurels that should be bestowed entirely on the military.
