In a life and death situation, your goal is to hit the attacker with a fired round. Any metal slug meets soft meat is a good shot. I'll take a big toe over empty space any day.
In terms of the physical and timing constraints that may be imposed on you in a combat situation over an organized shooting setting will take more of a toll on you and demand more. Thus headshots are out of the question unless you have the time and space to get a sight picture and align that onto their frontal lobe. It's far quicker to fire a double-tap or even a series of bursts(shot-shot-shot in quick, rapid succession) to the center-upper mass. This is both easier, more instinctive and natural.
I understand you point and respect the opinions of others. I am retired LEO, and possibly my training has fostered my thinking. While I agree that when SHTF someone may shoot at anything, I have to consider an immediate result. I dont mean to suggest "Try to kill" however, if a shot is called for, it means your life in in danger, and a kill shot will eleminate the threat. Take from it what you will, but if you have the skill to place a shot where you want to, a headshot presentation works...
I understand where you're going with this. However, I believe you're over thinking it. People are trained in weapon control and putting rounds on target, while being informed that vital shots will put an assailant down quicker. Human nature dictates that you will protect yourself if threatened with bodily harm. A person will think about, first - putting rounds on target before thinking about if those shots are lethal. Basically, if you're scared youll shoot at any part of the body you see first.
The attack stops when the attacker stops. Hitting lungs, heart or airway is what stops the attacker. Granted, a belly shot will likely slow him down, and certainly hurt like hell, but it usually does not immediately stop the threat. I do agree though that you may no be presented with the option. I suggest you aim for the part available that would cause the most damage. In your video, a head shot would have been likely as it had as likely a chance of hitting.
Head shots are generally not recommended because to be effective they must hit between the bottom of the nose to the top of eye sockets which is an extremely small target and factoring in the fact that your attacker moving as you should be, it becomes nearly an impossible shot.
@ArmedResponseTrainng - While I do appreciate your view, I do not support that a headshot is only effective in the confines you listed. Any shot that hits anywhere in the head is likely to stop the attack, and most likely kill. Outside of you suggested parameters, do you suggest a placement to the forehead is less lethal, or less likely to stop the attack? A shot lower than your parameters like the mouth is going to cause not only severe trauma and pain, but likely sever the spinal cord.
Do some shooting at a target the size of a head while its moving while you are moving and you will understand our positions and reasons for stating our points.
its good to see someone with a different point of view. Most videos on here make little reference to why some things are done and just expect you to know it. Thanks for posting. I will be looking for more of your videos
in a life or death situation any hit is a good hit.... if he is hit he has to go to the hospital to get the bullet out....then the police are ALWAYS called for a gunshot wond
Not completely true. If you are in mortal danger, stopping the attack is vital. Proper hits are required to stop an attack, not just a "wing shot" so he goes to the hospital. Just wounding him very likely will not stop him from wanting to attack you--may do just the opposite in fact.
Not sure if you have been in real situation, but I have had an armed man loaded on unknown drug at the scene not stopping after a missed vital shot. Shouldn't give advice like this as some people may take your bad advice seriously.
