I live in Germany and the drinking age for beer and wine is 16 and 18 for spirits. It's funny that you don't hear anything about Germany having a drinking problem whereas places like Britain and USA that have drinking ages of 18 and 21 do.

I do not see the point why 21 is the legal drinking age. I'm English/ Irish. Bought up in England. Drinking age is 18 however most drink way before that usually around 8-10. My first drink was a glass of red wine aged 7. In europe the drinking age can be as low as 7 in places and in some countries none existent. I had no idea American law was so nazi towards alcohol. After all you Americans do have some good beers and whiskies to be proud of.

Keep in mind the drinking age in the U.S. was 18 until 1984, when the Government, giving in to pressure from none other than these clowns MADD, raised it. Even the founder of that organization admitted it was a joke and left it in anger, stating that it was originally only intended to reduce drunk driving accidents, and that it had degenerated into an all-out prohibition group. After living in Puerto Rico for 4 months(where the drinking age is 18) Ive witnessed firsthand that people drink socially and in moderation instead of getting drunk because they are prohibited from it. Im not by any means promoting alcohol, but I sincerely believe that if the drinking age were lowered to 18, people would drink more moderately and responsibly.
I feel that since the government prohibits 18-20 year olds from drinking, it only causes them to hide their drinking and take advantage of the few opportunities that they do have to drink. Since it is illegal for them to drink, they binge drink because they have to do it behind their parents back. If drinking were legal it would be much easier for them to drink socially with their families and speak about alcohol, instead of learning how to drink on their behind their parents back.
I feel the drinking age should be lowered to 18 because that is the age the government states we are adults and it would allow 18-20 year olds to drink more responsibly. At the age of 18 the government allows people to enlist in the military, smoke, vote and make other significant decisions. personally, i think driving is a much more dangerous privilege. but i think we handle it correctly: we give a learners license, make the kids take a class, make them take a test, then give restrictions for a while. a reasonable solution would be the same sort of concept except with alcohol. there are some pretty good links on this. comment or message and i'll send you to them

Lowering the drinking age wont make anything better, but worse. All it will do is make it easier for kids to buy alcohol for themselves. At least with it 21, if the kids want alcohol, someone else would have to buy it for them. Meaning that that person would be forced to take a huge risk getting fined and going to jail. I am a member of the U.S. army and I have seen my good friends go to war and come back in a coffin. The sacrifice that soldiers make to their country should not only be enough to drink but they should get to drink fuckin tax free. Any soldier with integrity is not going to drink and drive regardless of age. Hooah to that! Though the exact age is a variable, Scientifically it is shown that the human Frontal Lobe does not finish fully developing until mid 20's. If we are going to determine an age which is not completely arbitrary, then I would choose one closer to the age that frontal lobe is fully developed. So, medically speaking 21 is a more sensible drinking age.

I do not see the point why 21 is the legal drinking age. Making the age of 21 the legal drinking age is completely absurd just because of the fact that when you turn 18. you become an "adult" and can properly make choices for yourself and what kind of life you wish to live. Once we turn 18 we can be a pornstar, go to court, serve in the military and die for our country, and if we drink we are considered a "criminal". This is completely fucking intolerable bullshit IMHO.

Okay, does this make sense? In Amsterdam weed is legal, prostitution is legal, and alcohol is at 18. They have less crime than us, and the percentage of people who tried pot is 30% less than that of Americans, where it is illegal. C'mon how can the government tell me how old I should be to drink, but they can force me to go to war at 18. You can die at 18 quickly and painlessly, but you can't die slowly by booze at 18? I'm English/ Irish. Bought up in England. Drinking age is 18 however most drink way before that usually around 8-10. My first drink was a glass of red wine aged 7. In europe the drinking age can be as low as 7 in places and in some countries none existent. I had no idea American law was so nazi towards alcohol. After all you Americans do have some good beers and whiskies to be proud of.

Keep in mind the drinking age in the U.S. was 18 until 1984, when the Government, giving in to pressure from none other than these clowns MADD, raised it. Even the founder of that organization admitted it was a joke and left it in anger, stating that it was originally only intended to reduce drunk driving accidents, and that it had degenerated into an all-out prohibition group. Also, the drinking age has totally failed to reduce accidents, and the U.S. still has more fatalities/year than Europe.

Thus, when they do drink, they have the impression that they're doing something "bad", and that tends to make people act much stupider when drinking. On the other hand, in Europe, where alcohol is more part of culture and not portrayed so negatively, teens tend to be calmer w/ alc.

After living in Puerto Rico for 4 months(where the drinking age is 18) Ive witnessed firsthand that people drink socially and in moderation instead of getting drunk because they are prohibited from it. Im not by any means promoting alcohol, but I sincerely believe that if the drinking age were lowered to 18, people would drink more moderately and responsibly.

I feel that since the government prohibits 18-20 year olds from drinking, it only causes them to hide their drinking and take advantage of the few opportunities that they do have to drink. Since it is illegal for them to drink, they binge drink because they have to do it behind their parents back. If drinking were legal it would be much easier for them to drink socially with their families and speak about alcohol, instead of learning how to drink on their behind their parents back.

I feel the drinking age should be lowered to 18 because that is the age the government states we are adults and it would allow 18-20 year olds to drink more responsibly. At the age of 18 the government allows people to enlist in the military, smoke, vote and make other significant decisions. I would say these are major decisions, so I dont understand why the government wouldnt allow us to make our own decisions about drinking as well. After all, at the age of 18 we are considered adults.

personally, i think driving is a much more dangerous privilege. but i think we handle it correctly: we give a learners license, make the kids take a class, make them take a test, then give restrictions for a while. a reasonable solution would be the same sort of concept except with alcohol. there are some pretty good links on this. comment or message and i'll send you to them

Lowering the drinking age wont make anything better, but worse. All it will do is make it easier for kids to buy alcohol for themselves. At least with it 21, if the kids want alcohol, someone else would have to buy it for them. Meaning that that person would be forced to take a huge risk getting fined and going to jail. Lowing the legal age would mean that the kids will have unlimited alcohol since they will be buying it for themselves all their their freinds in high school.

I am a member of the U.S. army and I have seen my good friends go to war and come back in a coffin. The sacrifice that soldiers make to their country should not only be enough to drink but they should get to drink fuckin tax free. Raising it to 25 would be a lot smarter. Lowering it to 18 guarantees a lot more crying mothers over the dead bodies of their children. There are a lot of 17 year olds in college and 20 year olds in high school. I think 18 makes more sense because you gain most adult rights and responsibilities and legally "enter in" to adulthood, not to attach laws to education level but in a legal sense maturity level

I hate how they use drunk driving as an excuse. It's illegal to drive drunk whether you are 18, 21, or 45. If police didn't waste all their resources chasing after college kids drinking maybe they could set up more check points and actually stop all these mature 21+ year olds from drunk driving.

It doesn't make sense for them to wait until 21 simply because it never has happened once to anyone. I don't know one person who hasn't drank under 21. And they should get to have alcohol with parents, but forbidding them from trying a teaspoon of alcohol until 21 is insane and will NEVER work! The whole point of the law is to prevent younger ones from drinking not to stop them!

Though the exact age is a variable, Scientifically it is shown that the human Frontal Lobe does not finish fully developing until mid 20's. If we are going to determine an age which is not completely arbitrary, then I would choose one closer to the age that frontal lobe is fully developed. So, medically speaking 21 is a more sensible drinking age.

the only way I learned about alcohol was breaking the law! and now I know I don't like it, so I think for many people they only want to drink because it's illegal for them.. Alcohol affects you spiritually and can ruin your life.. I think if the law allowed them to drink they would realize that it's nothing good.

Teach kids responsible alcohol use, not that were going to find you and throw you in jail if you use alcohol, the way our system is setup only makes people drink in secret which increases the risk of overdoses, I mean we have over 100,000 people die of alcohol each year.
Also I would know I overdosed on alcohol and nearly died at 15, the drinking age doesn't work it makes it rebelious

People drink under 21 all of the time.That law has little affect on drunk driving. Lowering the drinking age to 18 will not cause of wave of drunken destruction. Why penalize some one who drinks responsibly because someone else can't take responsibility for their own actions?

If you can die for your country, you should be able to drink. As for increasing the age to 18 to get your drivers license, then we would see many more high school drop outs, as for many of them the only reason they stay in school is so they can drive at 16.

What I want to know is what is the difference between 18 and 21 and if any thing why 21 as the drinking age why not 20 When Americans turn 18 it is stated that we are legal adults. We drive, some of us smoke, we vote, we pay taxes, and we can buy property(in most states), and we can even serve our country and join the military. If we can do all that why can't we drink. any one considered the maturity level excuse? That is the lamest excuse.

Your "word of God" is a collection of books, written by dozens of authors (many remain unknown) over the span of thousands of years, and NONE are more recent than the Bronze Age. Not to mention the books contradict each and hardly any complement each other. When you're talking about drinking you might as well quote the Illiad. it make sense to move the drinking age to 18. Just look at Canada. There drinking age is 18 and there are less drinking related fatalities in the 18 to 21 year old age bracket. I beleve this is because kids are brought up around it so they don't see it as something they have to go out and hide to do. This means that there is alot less drunk driving and alot less kids wanting to go and get smashed at a party where there is no one to look after them.
