i got my elastics today!!! i have 3/16" heavy on both sides.... and mine are in a triangle in the very front (if that means anything.) idk so far so gud.. not 2 bad... but i just got them on a few hrs ago!! so who knows :P but yah! we will def see tomorrow...

I got elastics yesterday. It was my 11th month anniversary and that's what my dear orthodontist gave me...

I have the 4mm (3/16"), and they're horrible! I can't even open my mouth, and today I woe up with terrible pain.

I will probably be wearing them for the rest of my treatment too :[

Heyyy i got my elastic bands on about a week ago and they still hurt like hell. How long do you think they are gonna hurt for? I really can't deal with this pain at the moment. And i'm the same as you i have my braces for about 18 months and i've had them since June last year.

I have to say, they bothered me for almost 2 weeks. What got me the most was my jaw and the bottom of the back of my head. You can tell where movement is happening because of the rubber bands. I wish I could say it goes away right away, but mine didn't. I have a feeling I will be going thru it again come this Weds. Bracing myself. Keep remembering what the final "product" is going to look like.......it will be worth it in the end.

Wow 3 years of braces. I hope and pray mine won't be that long. I was told 1 1/2 - 2 years. You're right though about the results being worth it. I'm already enjoying how my teeth are looking and that is with a crossbite still! Thanks for the vote of confidence, those are what keep me going. Take care............

Hey, just checking in to see how braces are going for you? I got my spacers in on Tuesday - they hurt like a #$a%@&, but complaining will not make it any better. The fact that they hurt so much makes me very scared about the actual braces. So, did you get colored ligatures when you first got your braces on or did you go with the inconspicuous silver ones? Oh well, wish me luck next Tuesday, I will need it. I will try to get videos of the procedure posted to youtube

Hey, good luck getting your braces next Tuesday. Yes, they hurt, but not until the next couple days. That is when you really start feeling the pressure. The spacers are uncomfortable for sure. It helps to take something before you go, especially for the adjustment appts. Those are the worst. The poking and probing can bring tears to your eyes! My 2 front teeth are always tender and it seems they are the ones that are pushed on. I look forward to the pictures. I will have a video on soon.

I feel your pain! For some reason the teeth that are the most sensitive always seem to be the ones that get prodded the most...

Good luck on the rest of your journey! I just got mine off after three years, the bands were AWFUL...but I'll tell you, the results were so worth it!

Hey Lisa. Just curious to see how your elastics are doing. Is it still painful? Do you get used to it like the braces? I get mine on my next visit (02/16/09 and I'm just wanting to be prepared since I am a headache/migraine sufferer. I am not looking forward to them! How's your treatment going?

Hi there, Sorry I haven't done a video or you would have been filled in. The elastics were removed at my Nov'08 adjustment. I guess I was too compliant, something was happening too fast, not sure. I expect to get them back on next Thurs.(Unfortunately)You may expect to get some headaches if you are already prone to them. Good luck to you...

UGH. ive had to use rubbberbands before.. they gave me major headaches too. at first i only wore them to sleep but then i wore they all the time because i wanted to get rid of my braces sooner. & WOW! your teeth are really improving very fast!

So this is your first month with elastics, huh? I have had them for about 5 straight (no pun intended) appointments. I am having to wear 4 elastics at the moment, and I thought it would be appropriate to use orange for halloween. As a 30ish woman, I guess I can have some fun with it. Have you ever thought about taking video of your appointment at the ortho? I have videos of when I got my braces on (with that horrible lip stretcher) but I am too ashamed to put them on youtube.

I just got my elastics today. My teeth are a little sore but not that bad. Definitely not as bad as when I first got my braces! I hope you're getting used to them.

Well, my elastics have been a little different than that. I just recently had my bottom wire traded for the larger wire and then my elastics were changed to the heavier size as well. I have not had this feeling yet! It's been quite difficult. At night, I feel like my teeth are falling out of my mouth! I will be posting another video on this tomorrow or Tuesday. Glad to hear you're having an easier time than me.

I agree, it's hard to keep up with the videos, but I thought I saw one of yours while you were in your car??!! They don't have to be lengthy, just informative. I have been trying to follow your type of braces, so I'm personally interested in your progress. If you've been watching my videos, you know I have struggled. I have a helper though and that makes a difference in keeping up with them. Good luck....

mine were around $3,000 or so and the way my clinic works is you just pay monthly and not everytime you go. I had a heafty down payment though 1600 and then pay 200 a month

wow. Was there an option of negotiating the price, as in, since you're paying out of pocket that the ortho would knock off a few dollars? Or the estimate was the price you had to pay?  Thanks for answering my previous question

Hi, can't say much on this reply page, but my braces were about $4500. I had option for payments, but paid a little differently. The ortho was pd in full, so my appt's are paid for and are ev/6 weeks. Way too many different details I could give you. We'll have to chat on email or something like that. I had my teeth shaved at my last visit I have been trying to upload a video for about a month and it wont let me for some dumb reason I still have my elastics and have to wear them 24 hours a day and I also got chines to close some gaps I am almost halfway done or so I think.

good luck with those elastics, mine hurt SO bad (especially after wearing them overnight) hopefully you'll get used to them.

Hi. But you don't say if they still bother you! It's not sounding too good for me.....especially if you still have them on now and they still hurt you. I don't know how you can get used to them, however I have found that if I accidentally leave them off for any length of time, my jaw gets real sore. Braces are definitely a real inconvience in your life aren't they?
