Wow, as a teen in the 60's I found one of these in the trash, I had bypassed the amp and inputted the ceramic into an old RCA PA amp I had (two 6L6's), I had salvaged speakers from cast off TV's all mounted in one huge coffin sized infinite baffle.
@mtv70pn Thanks for your comment! Oh, not at all. I have a modified stereo cartridge in this bad boy. The cartridge tracks ultra-light and has a stereo needle. No damage to records whatsoever. The original heavy crystal cartridge was horrible on records. This little treasure plays better than it did when it was new.
In regards to the fact that you didn't recap this, do you smell an odd odor when using this unit? If so, the correct name for it is "O Zone" which mean the filters are leaking eventhough they may still work properly. I would definitely recap the main filter can just to play it safe.
Nope, no odor whatsoever. In fact, it smells like it's just been restored. I thoroughly cleaned all the contacts in the amp and removed any signs of dust/dirt/grease. She purrs like a kitten!!
I just bought an EY-2. It has been restored, but I found a couple things that sometimes do not work right. These may be things that are common to all, but since this is the first vintage record player I have bought, I don't know. About 1 out of 6-8 records doesn't fall all the way - gets stuck crooked about half way down. also, the tone arm sometimes rejects and rather than sit down on the record, will sit down on the tone arm. Are these 2 things common? thanks for any help! :-)
dude this is great, i my self will be getting a very raer recod plaer this weak, its a pye achioc.i cant wait, i will post it on here.mate that is a sweet little player
Thanks for the comment! This has a two-stage audio amp with a 50L6, 12SQ7, and 35W4. The most amazing thing about this amp is that all of the components, even the capacitors are original!!
I could have re-capped the amp, but chose not to just because it still sounds so sweet with all the original electronic components!
That Is A GORGEOUS PLAYER! With A GORGEOUS SOUND! And I LOVE! Brenda Lee But There Is Just One Thing, You Say In The Video That You Changed The Cartridge To A Stereo One, Do You Think Maybe It Has Changed The Original Sound?
Thanks for the comment. This is a specially adapted stereo cartridge that was wired for mono. It's a "Low Rider" cartridge that is made for these players. Readily available on eBay...
Thanks for a nicely shot video and complete commentary. First time I ever see one of these white ones working. I wonder why spindle had to rotate but suppose to simplify mechanism. Automatic cycle really fast and crazy. Love the RCA medallion on tonearm and have only see those on the bigger changers inside consoles once or twice. How many records could you pile up on these ?.
And so you simple make a bridge to wire your stereo cartridge to original amp ?. I wish I can have someone restore mine.
Hi Tubellarbells. Thanks for your interest in my record player! You can pile up to 15 records on this little baby, thanks to the RCA "Low Rider" cartridge that is available on eBay by Williebosco. These are GREAT cartridges that are stereo bridged to mono and the cartridge can be plugged right to the original RCA cartridge leads. The low profile of the tonearm with the new cartridge allows you to pile up those 45's!!
Thanks Jasonlava!! Glad you are enjoying the videos of my collection! I should hopefully be posting more soon. I have a whole slew of RCA 45 machines, including some nice restored table models that I hope to have on YouTube very soon.
Yes,the low-rider cartridges are awesome. Did you also notice the "45" record player cover on this unit?? That also came from WillieBosco, but he sold them a few years back, and I don't see them on ebay anymore..
i have too rca 45 players too and i get a my part from williebosco too. i have too rca radios with phono inputs on the back of it. once i finish recapping them, i'll make a vid of them sometime.
i restored a 1953 45-ey-2 for a co-worker at work. i recapped the amp also with new resistors, replaced the cam and idler wheel, motor grommits, give it an oil change and yes it has a stereo cartridge too. did you get the cart from this ebay seller williambosco? besides that i also restored a 1950 9-jy player which is mines and a stereo cart too. next project is a 45-j-2.

Great 45 record player, and has great sound. Is that a diamond needle in it now? Whatever, you've done a good job on this one!
RICHARDDAVISMCLEOD 2 years ago
Thanks for the comment! Yes, this little record player has a modern cartridge/diamond needle. Sounds great!

Yes, these are common. There are adjustment schematics available on eBay which tell you how to correct these issues.
frangiul13 3 years ago
Where did you get the cover? I would like to have one for mine to keep dust off. Thanks...
DE387 3 years ago
I got this off of eBay about 5 years ago. Haven't seen one like it since.

I love watching things like this. The machine's two years older than me!
Good choice of music too, I came across this by accident looking for Brenda Lee clips.
You have a good voice for radio by the way ...
