It's a damn good job for a one off. Ronnie is good as well, he never tried to be Taylor, he does his thing and it works. Anybody take a good look at the guitar Mick Jagger is playing? Peace.
Hey Chriss999, thank you so much for your video posts to Youtube. This one, and a safe bet your other posts, did it for me so much. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!

What I love about The Stones is their ability to take a song and do it in various styles. Best know example is Country Honk vs. Honk Tonk Women. This is a decidedly more "Country" version than the original. "But as long as the guitar plays, He'll steal your heart away" makes me think of Keith and all the bluesmen who came before him.
Okay, you figure these guys were doing one of their tours where they do an arena one night, a stadium the next & they just "show up" at a club another night, under an assumed name, now that's 3 nights of performing, that's a lot. Then add onto that, as Mick has said, your expressions & movements have to be different in each type of crowd as people see you differently due to distance. Sound also travels differently. In these situations, they're out to have fun, which is why they started it all.
@BillieBreathes I don't think I've seen phish play it, but I have seen them play loving cup a few times. The Phish version is great too, I watched it here. Crowes just have an extra couple instruments giving some more depth. I think they also play happy, , loving cup, i want to see his face and couple others. Two great bands playing some great songs.

crowes have the best live performance of this. this year Luther has been playing the steal and killing it. Granted the stones rule and this is like 30 years after they recordered it, but this performance is not that great vocally or otherwise
@dmack420 have you ever seen the phish performance of this song? They did the entire exile album at their Halloween festival in 2009. Really great stuff, they have been covering loving cup for years, but they decided to do the whole album.
Ronnie is a good pedal steel player- & the original song had a pedal steel solo- so why does Ronnie play the solo on an electric? Then he switches to the pedal steel? This looks more like a rehearsal then a "finished" version for the tour- this must be one of the Stones pre-tour club dates to see what material works, and what doesn't- they almost always do the club gigs in Toronto.
sweetness.. I didn't know Mick Jagger played guitar.. I have been listening to the stones religiously now for about a year... Then they brought their Exile On Main Street Album back to the spot light and its amazing.. I love exploring all types of music especially blues rock.. These guys are all great.. they kinda fucked over Brian Jones but I guess that's show business....
This sounds like a bunch of Port Credit 50-something has-beens taking their best crack at a classic (which one wouldn't expect to sound like much). Kinda sad that these guys got by for decades while neglecting some of their best songs. Baffles me that Keef, of all guys, decided they had it down enough to unleash it on a live audience. But what the fuck, they're still the Stones; laugh as we will, can't help but love 'em.
Come on guys...its the fuckin Stones!!! These guys are livin legends!! This is a great fuckin song from a great album. Give'em a break. I like to see you guys do your job in your early 60's and well as you did it in your early 20's. Shut the fuck up and listen to the music. When the fuck did everybody become a critic??
@cusick6364 Agree 100% And the funniest thing is that all these new music experts grew hearing the stones or groups that learned rock and roll from them.
On behalf of the boys in the band, who knows how long it had been since they played before just picking up a date at a "Club" which they usually do when they are blowing through a town. Also, add to that the fact that they virtually NEVER play this song live, who knows how long it had been. So, if asked did I want to be there, damn straight I would have LOVED it and just gotta remember, they're people too!
This is awful...what a trainwreck! One of the best songs off 'Exile' and the Stones just massacre it here! It's such a simple sone too...4 chords and an easy tempo. I love this song but glad they didn't do it live very often. Hate to save it, but even Phish did it better.
It is actually really good, if they had an organ filling the space it would sound much better, Mick isn't banging out the chords hard enough to covert that space. After about a minute and a half they really start cooking. Remember, this is like your Grandpa going out and jamming, their voices just aren't what they used to be.
...and the guitar player gets restless...

@katq906 By "Country" I'm talking about the addition of Ronnie's stamp with the slide guitar as oppose to the more straight acoustic folky country.

@donedave Thats exactly what it is. Mick & Keith always say that a club show is "worth a week of rehearsals"
I don't think this is all that bad considering the circumstances.

as a long time hard core fan, i really enjoyed this!
Mick's voice is fine. They still have the magic. no one like the Stones.
the highlight of my life was seeing them all 5 nights @ the forum in '75. for me, nothin has topped that tour.
sure, they slowed down a bit. so, just watch the early stuff if it depresses you.
