En muchas partes de Cataluña llamamos a los barceloneses "pixapins" (meapinos) y la frase hecha "pixar fora de test" (mear fuera de tiesto) más o menos equivalente a "lanzar balones fuera", además en catalán cagarse en Dios no se considera tan ofensivo y escandaloso como en castellano...

@loordbob El Caga Tió es una tradición ancestral catalana que, según muchos estudiosos, tendría sus raices en las religiones paganas pre-rromanas existentes en su momento. El uso de un tronco (o un arbol caido) que da regalos es una referencia a la muerte y resurrección de la naturaleza en los albores del solsticio de invierno.

@loordbob La mecánica de la tradición es simple: una semana o un par de semanas antes de la noche de Navidad se pone un Tió (el tronco) en la casa y se le "da de comer" con frecuencia haciendo partícipe, claro está, a los niños. La noche de Navidad se coloca el Tió en el medio del comedor o del salón y se pide a los niños que vayan a algún lugar apartado a rezar (o se los entretiene de alguna otra forma) [continúa en otro mensaje]

Una vez se acaba la canción pueden destapar el Tió para descubrir qué regalos les ha dado.

Between this and the Caganer, I'm really confused as to what caused Catalans to link Christmas with poop. That said, I'd feel a lot better about telling my future children that their Christmas presents must be beaten out of a log, rather than having them com from an old man breaking into the house and stealing our cookies and dairy products.

Catalans seriously have the best sense of humor and the some of the most awesome/bizarre cultural traditions ever. No wonder Spain won't let go.

Seems that this video has some more interest lately due to comment I read... To stop all kind of guessings...

The Caga Tió is a very old Catalan tradition and formerly consisted in a log that brought sweet candy and baking after kids hit the log with a stick while singing the song.

Nowaddays the Caga Tió also brings presents and gifts.

It's a very nice tradition that our kids still love.

in the end it is all sympolic and I see this as a good way of celebrating and giving kids gifts in which they think they need to do good so the log will give them (shit for them) good gifts.

Hola, saludos a todos, yo soy de Cataluña. La tradicion del Caga Tio se hace para las navidades. Es un tronco de arbol, con una cara dibujada y se la tapa con una manta. durante unos dias se le va dando comida al tronco (fruta, o cualquier cosa) para que los niños crean que come y se haga fuerte para que cague muchos regalos unos dias despues.

En mi familia, la cancion es mas corta y dice algo asi: "caga tio, avellanas y turron, si no quieres cagar un golpe de baston" jaja
