He is my fave rock star of all time, but he is a shit bass player. He was an awesome songwriter, but a shit musician. Always was, always will be.

But he just knew what kids wanted in the 80's, and he just hit the scene at the right time with the right sound. He is awesome (well, not anymore, he is a twat now, but he WAS awesome) and all round greatest rock star of all time, during the 80's anyway

I give him credit for having the vision and focus to organize the band but the reality is that thousands of "kids" with far more talent and ambition (Sixx could barely play the bass when they started) did the exact same thing and wound up as drop outs. In popular music, success is determined by luck just as much as talent and ambition. Banking your entire future on rock stardom is actually pretty stupid given that the odds of success are even worse than winning the lotto

Nikki just happened to have the right attitude and know-how to know what the kids wanted at the time. It was just being in the right place at the right time.

@Newsensation1978 - I'll be they do. They absolutely tore the US Festival apart in 1983 before coming over to my country, the UK, to do Donington in 1984 where I saw them. I do miss this era in heavy rock as it sadly got faded out by the rise of Grunge and thrash and death metal in the face of Pantera and Sepultura. I think it will return one day.....I really do.
