the great eastern road is actually a reference to the great eastern railway service not the star, as the lines run right past it and all over the area. There are stations dotted all the way through east london through to Norwich. Angel Lane is only 5 or so miles away from the district of Angel in London aswell. If they didn't give out welfare more people would resort to crime and society would break down.
