  • what a dozy cunt.

  • Makes me want to put a phaser in my mouth and pull the trigger.

  • It was the Flanders.... man.

  • Why, Bill, why???

  • Where's Scotty when you need really him!?

  • Mr. Art Form

  • Shatner is the man. How many TV icons are still famous 45 years after their series went off the air? Entertainment Magazine had a list of the 50 most famous TV characters and they had Homer Simpson at #1 and Jane Lynch of Glee at #6. Jane Lynch....not even on TV for a year. Captain Kirk was a greater character than those 2 could ever hope to be. Kirk is practically immortal.

  • you found the sky alright Billy boy

  • BRILLIANT.

  • I'VE GOT SOMETHING INSIDE ME.

  • Adding the surreal aspects of Shatner doing this thing, the story song is depressing.

  • This is a cover of that Harry Chapin song. LOL!

  • Bones fix him!! I am trying Jim I am only a DR. not a Volcan Spock!! Do the mind thingy!! Captin! Captin!!! What!!?? the shields are all DOWN !!! well fix em Scotty!! I want bones too fix this beautiful blonde she is so hot!!! Jim the volcan mind probe dose work. Why!!?? simple put captin, she's a blonde nothing there but umm air...(Bones thinking) hmmm I'd like to lay her myself! ----whew!! I thought I wouldn't make through Shatner's singing OH MY Ghandi! I'm thinking he's drunk lol

  • This is amazing. Would have been totally believable as an SNL skit. Can't see how this was not a parody of some kind.

  • Five and a half minutes gone... Well less since I'm bailing out at 3.00

  • This is hysterical!

  • your hight, i am hight, we are all hight!

  • look out he is geting all emotional :O 2:13

  • What is this crap?

  • Face reality, people. "Dinah's show was a long time ago. Shatner was the world's first rapper.

  • Off camera, Dinah Shore was thinking "He'd better do this on Mike Douglas too"

  • William Shatner is a comic genius.

  • I love this man ever since I got hooked on Boston Legal. Unfortunately it ended after 5 seasons.

  • @litster73 ik i hate tht i wish is went on for a nother season

  • vogon poetry at it's best.

  • The "Shat-Man" has never taken himself too seriously;I remember about this same time he did the game show "The Ten Thousand Dollar Pyramid" ,He was hilarious !!

  • I think this says more about Harry Chapin than Bill Shatner.....

  • Blechh, what shit....head for the exit Kirk.........and at warp fucking speed.

  • Only a jew would try this b.s. no matter how bad it is they think they can sell it to dumass gentiles... and most of the time they buy it...

  • Kinda sucks.

  • Um.....yeah.

  • A mess.

  • his intonation is perfect

  • too weird for me lol

  • As music, this is absolute bullshit.

As a hybrid of kitsch, comedy, and art, this is absolute genius.

  • @umbrellashotgunman Exactly. Shatner knows he can't "sing", & he ain't try'in to. It's really more like, poetry over music. In that sense, how is it really different from rap/hip hop? Well, obviously it's different, but, you know what I mean? Anyway, I like it. I've always liked Shatner's own particular/unique style of acting (& or over-acting) & his word/phrase emphasis. Along with hockey & beer, Shatner is 1 of the best things to ever come out of Canada. {:o)

  • Pure genius.

  • this rertardo makes me siock He be the biggest dumbass what ever explored the moon and dat other craP

  • like watching a train wreck -- you know it's wrong, wrong, wrong, but you just can't look away.

  • It's goofy and stupendous--it's the Shat!

  • Oh my god. What an arrogant nerd.

  • capt kirk was a jerk, and he was high on maryjane when he recorded this piece of craperoo

  • Only Shatner can make Harry Chapin depressing and I drove a cab for years.. Even getting robbed when the rent was due wasn't this depressing. So my family starved to death! Those were great times compared to Shatner making me this depressed..

  • swoon, swoon, swoon. when Shatner sings i just swoon.

  • Dramatic readings of silly pop tunes backed by the tunes themselves, it's actually quite brilliant in an endearingly eccentric post-apocalyptic funkytown fashion.

  • I wanna ride in your Taxi Bill...we can get stoned together and bad mouth every woman who ever fucked us over

  • The electric piano is reminiscent of 'I'm not in Love' by 10CC.

  • No No No NO!!! The best ever is Telly Savalas doing "If," by Bread!! It's on YouTube...the coolest ever!

  • "I've got something inside me, to drive a princess blind..."

So, the guy in the song is Gay, then? If not, shouln't that something be inside the princess? "cause that's where I would put it...but that's just me.....

  • they could have made more episodes of trek out of footage like this,

  • 55 people are the reason baby's crying.

  • He is the best... Stoner nights with Star Trek....

    The best....

  • If this doesn't make U laugh, U were born without a soul!

  • i dont know what disturbs me more. this or clint eastwood singing in paint your wagon.or maybe spock singing if i had a hammer.

  • The clock ticks life away.. Its so unreal.. (Shatner should do some Lincoln Park anime covers)

  • i just puked

  • WTF!

I suppose you have to be stoned to enjoy that. I will try that sometime, and I hope it sounds better to me.

  • Shatner is pure genius. Eclectic, original and timeless.

  • Why is it I get the feeling that Shatner would have made a much better Travis Bickle than DeNiro?

  • I want to ride in your taxi Bill....we'll get stoned together and bad mouth all the women who fucked us over

  • A lot of people didn't get it...

  • There's a wild man wizard; he's hiding in me!

    LMAO!!!!!

  • KHAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!!!!

  • holy shat! this is epic

  • holy s***

  • proves that with the right delivery anything can sound like shakespeare..no insult to harry chapin, I love the man...but ya gotta give shatnet credit, he'd make a pa announcement in an airline terminal sound intense..

  • @ginostats LOL...this doesn't sound like anything CLOSE to Shakespeare to me...I like Shatner, but this is ridiculous. LOVE Harry Chapin, though. Chapin's delivery is perfect.

  • I can watch all this classic Shatner stuff all night. Fucking MESMERIZED. Like a car crash that you cant look away from...but a GOOD kind of car crash. A happy car crash? WHATEVER. Its fucking SHATNER. Amazing.

  • @VoodooPolitico "a happy car crash" LMAO

  • The Shat did this in a pink shirt , dont let this detail get by you . Damn shame I cant go back in time and show a laptop computer with a few star trek movies on it to the executives at NBC .I could stop Star Trek from being canceled when they understood it would be a billion dollar industry someday .

  • I loved it! Merry Christmas America! Including the assholes Republicans.

  • This is fantastic - it's not 'singing' per se; it's performing the song. The best one (by far) is Rocket Man - sublime; funny, intelligent, true to the lyrics and intention of the song, and this one's similar.

  • Classic Shatner! Hilarious but awesome all at once!

  • WOw! I have never seen Shatner do this song before. Nickindetroit is right - He did nail it. Talent.

Say whatever you want about him. But recognize - no editing - no cutaways - no CGI- no prerecorded tracks - his performance is captivating and vulnerable and real (as real as Shatner can be anyway).

    Wow.

  • I can't listen to Harry Chapin sing this anymore. Shatner is a God.

  • William NAILED this!

I don't know wthat to say...

    SaWEET!

  • Just because you can command a star ship doesn't mean you can carry a tune.

  • My head just exploded.

  • Shatner was an early rap artist. He just lacked the hip hop in his rhyme.

  • @shysterlicious He did this movie about 11 years ago called Free Enterprise with Eric McCormack and at the end he put text from Julius Caesar to a rap beat, backed by an entire posse on stage. Funny.

  • A word: Uh, Huh?

  • This is a camp classic. I used to seem him do that little "move" @ 2:18 at the end of Star Trek when it was time to wrap the episode and Kirk had to straighten out all the plot conflicts.

  • He needs to release an album: "Shatner Shats the Hits!"

  • Yep...he was STONED, all right!!

  • I just stood up and gave this a standing ovation!

  • he shat the shit out of it!

  • When William Shatner covers a song he makes it his own.

  • This is SHATASTIC .

  • I keep thinking "Saturday Night Live Skit"...but its not.

  • OMG~! Hes dead jim but not as we know it???? P.s. He has something inside him until his time runs out??? lol Ooh Errr

  • It should say "William Shatner TALKS Taxi on Dinah".

  • What Shatner said about his 'singing' when asked in an interview on the Tonight Show several years ago was: "Yea, we knew it sounded like crap, but we thought most of what the kids were buying at the time did too. So we thought why not give it a shot? Maybe it'll sell." Best explanation I've ever heard about it. .

  • This is hilarious, he must have been flying in his taxi when he recorded this shiz...

  • @jayperelman Flying in his fucking spaceship :)........What a twat!

  • No wonder Robert DeNiro went fruitcake and shaved his head!!!

  • Shatner--handsome and talented. That is all.

  • He forgot to add "Captain's Log"......

  • I love William Shatner, I really do. So don't get me wrong when I say this....but....

.......this is soooooooooo bad! It really is.

Whatever this is......whatever this is supposed to be.....however it is that the rest of us mere mortals are supposed to interpret it (as far as his rendition of this song goes).......regardless.......it's just bad. Plain and simple.

  • @unconventionalmeans You don't get it. I didn't at first, but I have a grasp of it now. He is not merely speaking the words, but acting the story told by the song. If you approach it intending to get what you normally get out of a story that is sung, you are bound to be wierded out and/or let down. If you approach it like you would a play or an acting lesson, where body language and pathos recieve prominence over melody, then it makes more sense.

  • @Tokopol

He's acting out the story/song....okay! Got it!

But I still think it's bad.

    Thank you!

  • @unconventionalmeans Acting is a very subjective thing. It is understandable for someone to criticize an acting technique they have never seen without proper context, but not necessarily fair. It's akin to walking into a community theatre and seeing a familiar person attempting an acting technique you aren't familiar with, and immediately calling him 'soooooooooo bad'. I had the same reaction as you at first. I'm not saying Shatner is a colossal genius, just don't pass judgement so quickly.

  • @Tokopol

Okay, here's the deal. One singer or dancer or poet or what have you can enjoy another singer, dancer or poet's work...fair enough But having said that, the listening/viewing public also has a say in what they enjoy seeing and/or hearing.

I do not enjoy this piece. I do not believe that William Shatner does a good job of basically talking (acting??) his way thru this particular song. It's that simple.

  • @unconventionalmeans Completely understood. Just pointing out that it's easily misinterpreted. William Shatner is certainly no acting titan, but I give him the benefit of the doubt because he takes his craft seriously.

  • @Tokopol

Sure. And for as long as I live, I'll always think of the TV characters Capt. Kirk and Denny Crane whenever I hear the name William Shatner. I really enjoyed William Shatner in both of those rolls.

Not sure about "TJ Hooker", though! LOL! I wasn't much of a TJ Hooker fan.

  • its not singing. its talking.

  • rofl

  • Gotta love how in Shater's vocabulary singing translates to "spoken word"

  • "I do not like green eggs and ham! I do not like them, Sam I Am!"

  • Beatnix relived... His ego cannot be pentrated. Good on him. He earns more than we do.

  • You're an actor, Bill; take off to the stars.

  • "Harry, keep the change" /shrug

  • Khan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • crap

  • You could take this shit and paper the walls in your bedroom with it!!! This right here is book! very book!!!

  • When Shatner covers a song he makes it his own.

  • Beam me up, scotty...

  • Shatner version is always better than the original. :P

  • Beam this man up and get him the hell out of here!!!! What a decimation.

  • is he intentionally trashing the song or what.

  • This is so special, phasers to rug burn gentlemen!!!!!

  • this sucks...=[

  • This is almost to dark to contemplate

  • This is whatever the polar opposite of pure genius is... he has definitely reached the final frontier of his crack pipe. I'm stopping the video at 2:53 I'm too embarrassed for him to continue on.

  • Wow. I lasted a whole 43 seconds before my eardrums reached out and stabbed my neck.

  • Every thing William Shatner does is is so bad it's good. God I love him.

  • I ♥ you Bill !!

  • Really?

  • "I'VE GOT SOMETHING INSIDE ME!"

  • Thank you for posting!

  • maybe he should have stuck to exploring far off planets.

  • Love the shirt bill!!!!!!!

  • Among the torture methods used against Taliban terrorists, was eat pig meat, drink alcoholl, and listen to Bill Shatner's entire CD collection.

  • @jerryaltman - LOL I laugh and laugh and laugh at Bill's "renditions". These days he has such a great sense of humor about it

  • @jerryaltman hilarious! Greatly put.

  • I'm sure this comment will probably get spammed anyway but really, what the fuck was this!? Was this a song or poetry? TheRudeBoy77 is right. This isn't singing at all. This is merely spoken words.

  • That's was Shatner's thing, spoken word pop/rock songs. The closest he really got to singing was his cover of Common People, and that's pretty talky too.

  • "I`ve GOT SOMETHING INSIDE ME" ....damn man, that makes me cry. a billion times more powerful than Harry Chapins version.

  • I`m sorry, but this is absolutely fantastic.

  • what a fucking joke.

such a beautiful song trampled on like this.

it shouldn't be shat, it should be shit.

  • He is the king of the retards

  • quite simply.........THE DOGS BOLLOCKS!

  • This is not singing. This is spoken word.

  • ********** FART ******

  • The Shat takes a lot of grief for his singing...but I really like his rendition of this song...

  • excellent

  • o__O

    THE SHAT

  • 1:52 in the......BACk of a dodge XDDD

no The Shat was not produced on this planet not even in this galaxy and he doesn't have a simple human DNA

  • This video stirs dual emotions. #1 It's funny to watch Shatner at his hammy, pathetic attempt to over dramatize. #2 Harry Chapin should have used his taxi to run over William Shatner for ruining a well written, poignant song.

  • Comment removed

  • @SirReal1958 I LOLed :)

  • I can't help it, I love Shatner in any configuration. No one else does this sort of thing. And yes, I think we would be poorer without it. :)

  • I like william but this sucks canal water

  • I think this was the start of his mad cow!

  • I could see how alot of people would pan this, but in Shatner's eccentric way it's a complete master piece!

  • @hogangoldberg Masterpiece is one word. Just a friendly tip.

  • HELP my jaw is stuck open and it's not because I'm stunned by talent, it's because Harry is rolling in his grave.

  • pretty lame stuff.

  • So at what part does he start singing?

  • This isn't bad

  • Beyond words... the only thing that could make this MORE "....." would be the disco.dance remix.

Beam me UP Scotty... NOW!!! Someone must have hit me with PHASERS on STUN and it worked... I'm STUNNED!!!

  • Why hasn't a cheese been named after him? I propose "Shatzerella."

  • There are no words!

  • Shats talent knows no limits, he's a genius. I followed him from his appearances in Twilight zone, to Star Trek, to Boston Legal. He has had one of the most prolific careers in entertainment. In his own way he did this song beautifully.

  • It is easy to bash Shatners spoken word songs, but he does this song well.

  • what the hell type of drug is he on ????

  • The Shat is the Shit, plain and simple.

  • @budlives

    The Shat makes you shat?

  • i think they show the time so if a friend watches this you can bet at what time his ears start to bleed

  • I can't stop watching these. You have to admit this is one of his better performances.Bill it time to record a new album. The world needs it more than ever!!

  • You couldn't be more right!!

  • Stop, Bill, just stop!

  • William Shatner always finds a way.

  • I know it's Shatner, but I kept seeing Phil Hartman

  • lol...wow...that was ROUGH

  • Bill.............some day I wanna take a ride in your taxi. We'll get stoned together and bad mouth all the women who fucked us over...

  • I just wonder now how much Owsleys Acid this dude dropped as he took off for the sky...far out man!

  • Somebody get a bucket of water....

  • RING~RING....Rock and Roll Hall of Fame calling....Beam me up Scottie.....

  • The only thing missing is David Hassellhoff doing background.

  • he's rapping? omg
