Music of this calibre doesn't come along everyday unfortunately. That's why people like us who are fortunate enough to be blessed with the honour of listening to it must enjoy it to the fullest. Thank you very much Camel.
the more I listen to this record, the more beautiful it becomes.
I first considered this a stereotypical prog record, but as I listened to it more and more, it becomes a defining statement not of that genre, but of a more complex and moody version of the Canterbury sound. It's a prog record that takes on a more universal form besides multi-key guitar solos and time changes.
Well here is what i think .. it is not about who is best.. just enjoy the music man .. you are one of the lucky ones who know about this good music .. a few i believe .. here is something that i recommend also listening too.. BJH ( time honored ghosts and eyes ) ..check them out ..also Eloy ( a couple of songs 3 or 4 .. just listen to their album .. the album that contains THE LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL or something of the sort ..enjoy .. now i searched it .. it is called FLOATING

That is a mean, mean bass! I have never tired of listening to this album (mirage) for almost 20 years now. Amazing piece of work and the way it ends .......into infinity, to be followed by Earthrise!
Camel was more prog than Floyd; more prog than King Crimson, more prog than Yes, more prog than Genesis, more prog than Roxy Music, more prog than Jethro tull - Camel was PROG!
My Favorite Band in the seventies--most people were listening to Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, Stones, etc., and they thought I was weird for listening to this, as well as Gentle Giant, Man, Amon Duul II -- I was WAY ahead of them in Muzik!! Thanks for this GREAT Muzik!!
I always thought Camel and Pink Floyd should have their own genre. A lot of their influences came before the clone wars we call Prog rock, and from more authentic.sources They also seem less interested in the ego fest of Prog and more interested in writing good tunes. King Crimson is a genre in itself, so should Pink Floyd and Camel.
ok the ad on the side is for the MMVA (much music video awards) WTF ok who listens to camel and gives a flying fuck about bruno mars there add's are useless here
This one is especially Pink Floyd like, but I always love what Bardens, Ward and Co. do with their Classical music training. It's why they can compose pieces like The Snow Goose, which is almost a concerto. I really love all but a few of the (too few) songs they recorded. With stronger lyrics/vocalist, they would have been tops. Very low-key guys, too.
This song is an amazing masterpiece, that so much work went into... The music moves me so much, and its not the kind of feeling you get from listening to coldplay... its the kind of feeling you get when you're listening to something full, and beautiful, melodic and harmonic, satisfying and engaging... All I can think is wow.
@69Mushrooms Completely agree. It's both warm and melancholy at the same time. The feeling i hear listening to this song is unlike anything i've ever felt before. Terrific stuff

@criminalschool Rush, Mars Travolta, (XD) Frank Zappa, Queen, Primus, Les Claypool, Genesis, Focus... Tal vez Dream Theater, Caravan, Gentle Giant, Van der Graaf generator, Aglagard, Il balletto di bronzo...

Larry Glenn had us learn and play this in our band ATLA is SF; he died on the 4th of July long ago; a certain genuis but with the devil in him; played a v with a shaved neck
once he wore grey he fell and slipped away from every bodies sight the wizard of them all came back from his fall this time wearing white he has a certain air as if he's never there somehow far away although he seemed to fall like a distant star
