Honestly, though, good playthrough so far, I'm really looking forward to the rest of it. Two things, however:

First, it would be kinda nice if you could direct some of the other characters other than Cap and Thing for a while, just to give us a glimpse of how each character plays if nothing else.

And second, and perhaps most important...

Hit start and then x, you should be able to upgrade stuff.

As for using them, hold the right trigger and hit one of the a,b,x, or y buttons if you have a power unlocked and mapped to that button.
