  • The "Blue Edge" rotor blade sound destroys the character of an helicopter.:-(

  • I wonder if similar technology could be applied to prop-driven aircraft to silence their damn noise. Would make living in flight paths a lot quieter.

  • Hello bin laden raid helicopter technology

  • Will they incorporate this technology for NH-90 and EC-725? If yes, goodbye Merlin, lol

  • Wow.

  • Why i love the rotor slap/

  • ブルーエッジって、消音モードを備えたブルーサンダーから名付けたものなのかな。

  • エンジン音が支配的な気がするのは私だけ?

  • I want to watch this directly.

  • まじか!!凄すぎる(-_-;

  • @SamariaKingdom ないことない

  • The new design sounds out of this world man! Very futuristic like the flying aliens portrayed in the first Half-Life game. Me likes it :)

  • This is incredible. i haven't read the articles yet, but is this something that is in mass production on current models or only for new releases?

  • sounds like a Eurocopter EC155 fitted with the blades... cool.. i personally think this is a major improvement, if you google the subject blue edge rotorblades, you'll find some decent articles... big improvement of aerodynamics, lift and overall performance, it's an active blade as well, it's tabs are electronically controlled and move 40 times per second to the control blade path in the air to stabilize /dampen rotor vibrations and movement... REALLY GOOD!!!

  • Guided missiles were never aimed sonically anyway. Some WW2 AA installations were.

  • wtf is that

  • I think the conventional blade sounds better.

  • cool. I guess they get a lot of complaints in Europe from residents when Big Brother is chopping over their neighborhoods.

  • im guessing the blue edge wins?

  • Statistically speaking rotor blades are harder to find than most elements on the periodic table. That's just what I heard on MTV.

  • Sorry, UFO aficianados: this may well explain some of the more dramatic sightings of silent, hovering lights and crafts in the night, especially those mysteriously silent ones. Likewise, insurgents and other millitary foes, you lose, too, as at night you will not only not see but also not hear the 'copters coming.

  • i was just wondering: would this affect the helicopter's speed?

  • about time. this should help more in covert military operations!

  • I wonder when that's gonna get to the police sector... Damned low flyin birds buzz my house at night.

  • I should imagine it will, the police like to be quiet and an awful lot of PDs in USA as well as around the world use Eurocopter aircraft, so I guess we can look forward to silent police copters!

  • I'm surprised this idea is only now being implemented since scientists have known for decades that the noiseless dives of raptors are due that same distinctive wing tip shape. That's basically all they did, stick a raptor wing form on the end of the blade.

  • how about no phaggot.

  • this is such bullshit.. I hope for accuracy and a direct comparison they flew 2 exact copters each equipt with different rotors at the same time..... Slight changes in air temp, humidity, altitude, weight etc affect the pitch and noise generated by the rotors.

  • And you know everything about Eurocopters testing conditions and have the engineering expertise to back up your comments... Of course the conditions for each test would be exactly the same dingus. Otherwise its a pointless exercise...

  • I can't help but think this will only be used for war

  • ronaldo

  • AMERICA

    FUCK YEAH!

  • Now they need to muffle the jet engine.

  • Those dambed old choppers that the National Guard uses are so noisey that they would have deaf people screaming for mercy!

  • ok, so how about lift? please show a comparison of the differences between lift generated because thats all that matters.

  • An optimal observacion

  • It's a shame that commercial or monetary pressure is a factor when the technologies are obviously available.

GA aircraft can be pretty quiet too, but again: cost.

Nice video though, good to see European aerospace is "up there".

  • cost isnt everything though they might be having trouble with stabilty or weight limits too... not gonna act like i know alot but my dad was a military helicopter pilot, i practically grew up around them

  • omg! finnally someone that actually knows something about helicopters and isnt an asshole about it

  • is this better than the comanche?

  • Its just a blade design. And I'm pretty sure the comanche is a stealth helicopter.

  • My bad for comparing a chopper to a prop

  • doesn't matter anymore because it was cancelled, the comanche that is.

  • if you guys don't consider that a significant improvement, then you're fucking stupid

  • wow the difference is so significant and noticeable im sure

    /fucks off

  • WOW, BIG difference. I wonder if LIFT is affected any and what affect on DB it would have if moving forward (as in the advancing blade)?

  • The difference is more apparent if you turn your speakers up really really high, since I figured even a half reduction of noise is a big deal at proper helicopter sound levels. All of a sudden the lack of continuous vibrating "BRRRR" noise is a relief to the ears. If they combine this with fan-tail rotors or NOTAR, and quieter engines (because turbines make an annoying high pitched whistle-noise), a fugure helicopter might sound like just another car in the distance.

  • I was expecting to not hear the chopper at all. Good stuff, they made the noise of the blades mostly disappear, yet the chopper is still clearly audible.

  • wont be long till its fitted on all militery units then comercial choppas

  • Quiet blades are not the be all and end all of helicopter noise. In many instances the whine produced by the aft transmission is heard before the rotors on Chinooks.

  • They have 4 blades, which are counter rotating.

  • that's what she said

  • Wow! That is a quiet blade but I am sure they figured that out years ago. Great for spec ops insertions and extractions.
