  • still wondering the first song myself

  • @roryyyyyy 3 little words, chet version, then at 2:16 he plays salty dog rag.

  • 13:20 onward is my personal favourite.

  • can someone PLEASE tell me the third song in this video (at 01:47)

  • Is it really possible to dislike this? What did 18 people not like about this? I don't like that I haven't seen him live or that I will never play like this... ever. That's it.

  • That's the best version of caravan I've ever heard

  • holy shit, this is amazing!

  • Doyle or Leo Kottke in his prime?

  • what is the 1st song on the video. I can't find it

  • Dykes is a 10 out of 10 in style, musicality, talent and 1 more thing.....physicality. His playing proves how to be the best you have to have hand/eye coordination also.....just like any good athlete is in their sport. He really adds a certain dimension to guitar playing.

  • Doyle is the greatest.

  • I saw him an hour ago at Longview Metro Church in East Texas, this man truly has the hand of god on his life! I'm gonna try to upload some of his performance tonight!

  • the first part was insane.

    this music has a name?

  • .....why not impress the s#@! out of country bumpkins with your electric playing experience on acoustic guitar?

  • Checkout Lenny Breau for another phenomenal guitarist.

  • Thanks for the info :D.

  • His picking blows me away but the man himself is more awesome than any entertainer I've ever met.

  • Does anyone know the name of the first song?

  • @Cityloud riding on through... i asked the same questions on this vid years ago

  • Comment removed

  • Doyle Dykes is absolutely awesome!

    I like his U2 cover.

My friend also likes Doyle. He plays the guitar too here on YouTube.

He's not as good as Doyle Dykes though. Don't tell my friend that I said that though if you visit his channel. :P

  • would sell my soul to play like DD

  • この人はブルース弾いてもブルーグラス風味が残ってるんよね。

(Posted by Youtube Stream for iPhone (yst.me) on behalf of moripton at twitter)

  • I enjoyed this whole thing. I also like when he plays that U2 song.

  • what's the name of the first song please :)

  • I liked it btw :D

  • Looks like Eddie trunk

  • In Soviet Russia, the guitar plays me. But Doyle Dykes plays Soviet Russia on the guitar!

  • what a finish!

  • can someone please tell me what song that is he's playing with the orange guitar at 2:50

  • @SeekYare " Country Fried Pickin' " from his album of the same name.

  • Wow, out of 464 comments, only one comment about 9:47, and I don't even know if he knew what song it is. Has Duke Ellington been forgotten!!! It's "Caravan" people!

  • @JaredAugerot Correction, first performed by Duke, composed by Juan Tisol.

  • does someone know wich song he plays at 3:50

    thank you

  • @pipsqueek14 It's something like "I still haven't found what I'm lookin' for"

  • @JaredAugerot thanks

  • what's the name of the first song he's playing?

  • @SeekYare Its "Thats all" by genesis but the clip only shows his own "solo" if you will. I had it on my old mp3 player but it fucked up and now I cant find a download anywhere :(

  • At 6:10 he is playing "Music of the night" from Phantom of the opera

  • @ScottinCali2008 Thanks..just saw u replied.

  • learn to play the guitar man!!! hahahaha......just kidding........amazing

  • Any idea as to what song Doyle played at 6:10?

  • Can you guys imagine if Doyle was on Rock Band? He'd be rated nightmare for every song.

  • Greatest guitar player EVER. Now then and next. :)

  • This guitarist is very interesting and plays a marvelous guitar.

    Bravo Great posting

    All thumbs UP

    Claude

  • I've seen him live. Legit as can be. Great player and great entertainer. A+

  • "Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" by U2 around 5:00! That's awesome. What a cool arrangement.

  • I wonder if him and tommy emmanuel have ever gotten together...??? This first tune also sounds like something Leo Kottke would envy..!

  • @JesuitFarmer Its here on you Tube!!!

Tommy emmanuel and Doyle in Raalte

  • doyle claims he cant play the blues but so many people cant even play the blues even nearly aswell as he can

  • Just takes one off the wall hang tags and all and plays the heck out of it. Amazing.

    Big Ron

  • I have seen him in person and believe me, he could play anything no matter what manufacturer or price and make it sound great...

  • Could someone tell me the name of the first song he's playing please ? It sounds amazing !

  • is that a custom version of DDSM @ 8:17 it looks so familiar yet so....unforseen XD

  • the one where he is with kazumi watanabe reminded me of old videos of Chet Atkins and Les Paul.

  • Doyle's great, but think how much better he'd sound if he played decent guitars instead of that Taylor crap.

  • @acr08807 what guitars do you prefer that you think Taylor's are crap? i've played several of the best guitars and i keep coming back to Taylor's as my favorite for tone and playability. just curious.

  • @elwoodbluz69 I don't really think Taylor's are crap, I just think there's better out there. Have you tried any Washburns?

  • @acr08807 i've been playing music semi-professionally for the last 15 years and yeah, i've owned Washburns, Epiphones, Fenders, Ibanez, and several other acoustics. i currently am playing a Yamaha acoustic electric i like very much but my most favorite acoustics have been my 614ce and my 354ce. i've played Breedloves, Martins and several others. the Washburns don't hold a candle in my opinion to the Taylors or Martins. i even like my Yamaha better.(FJX730SC) It is a solid top.

  • @elwoodbluz69 Well, you're certainly playing a fine axe now. Anyway, I think Dykes could make a guitar made from used chewing gum and strung with twine sound pretty good.

  • @acr08807 I've played through several brands of guitars, including Washburn, Ibanez, Taylor, Martin, Breedlove, Gibson, Epiphone and a few others. most of them sound good but the solid top guitars sound the best, Taylor being my favorite followed by Martins. i've been playing semi-professionally for the last 15 years. my current stage guitar is a Yamaha FJX730sc. i like the tone and the playability very much. In my honest opinion the Washburn acoustics weren't even close.

  • what type of amp is he using?

  • @Palladin727 He uses a Sedona 55...way too rich for me!

  • @Palladin727 Rivera Sedona Amp

  • Never seen Doyle live, but have seen one or two of his instructional vids released in the UK with Guitarist mag. I will never be as good as this guy, if I live to be a million. But I adore his style. Chet admired him, that should be enough for anybody. Yes, TE is brilliant as well - and there is room in the world for TE, Doyle, and a few others. I love Doyle's worh with Taylor as well - I am a Taylor owner - I've got the prototype 414CE and it's a lovely instrument

  • Seeing him Sept. 28. Can't wait!

  • This guy is right up there w/ the likes of Roy Clark Or Earl Scruggs as far as I'm concerned. Why is it I don't hear more about him? Am I missing something?

  • Where are the idiots arguing about who's better - Doyle or Hendrix?

  • YOU ROCK BROTHER, WHERE DO YOU PLAY? IF YOUR NOT ON THE ROAD YOU SHOULD BE.....AWESOME

  • What a monster!!!

  • i prefer listening to doyle but tommy emmanuel i think is better technically

but who gives a shit they are both amazing

  • Do a random act of kindness for someone today.

  • This is so amazing and tasteful it's not even funny. This guy is the guitar hero.

  • Wow! This guy is absolutely AMAZING!!! I can't believe, in a couple of days, I'm going to see this guy play at the guitar shop I take guitar lessons at! :D I'm seriously excited!

  • I love it. Everytime I watch this, my jaw drops. I'm gonna be up there one day. I swear.

  • @fenderboy94 Power to ya man

  • 16:05 - unreal!!

  • He's a great guitar man!

  • Who are the 18 fags who disliked this video?

  • I saw him at a music store hear in Rockford, Illinois and was amazed...his daughters were with him and they we just helping like one big family real cool

  • YEAH! That's what I'm talkin' 'bout!!!!!

  • what guitar is that at 13:48??? it sounds soo beautiful!

  • this is WAY more impressive than those metal heads who can speed pick really fast.

  • @yamachicken amen. preaching to the converted.

  • maybe because metal need more rythmic, because if u see most of the metal solos ( no alls ) are poor in rythm.

  • @yamachicken Captain Obvious ; )

  • @Funkyryno lieutenant sarcasm ;P

  • @yamachicken Not really. It's just as impressive because it's a completely different discipline.

  • @barclayprem Nah it's more impressive

  • @yamachicken Clearly you don't know too much then. Shame.

  • @barclayprem Clearly, you are a flaming homo-sexual rabbit Canadian

  • @yamachicken Yeah, clearly I'm Canadian...

  • @barclayprem Clearly. With your flappy jaws and beaty eyes

  • @yamachicken I like the randomness of your reply too much to offer a rebuttal. In all seriousness though, it is a different discipline so it would be unfair to say that either is more impressive. They are both impressive in their own right.

  • @barclayprem Honestly I don't even remember writing that comment.. It was a year ago lol. I agree it's two totally different styles

  • this guy is just amazing.

  • whatta guitarist

  • i came

  • god made this man to play the guitar, and doyle didnt let him down. amazing.

  • first 2 minutes are insane

    after that - boring

  • don't listen to this guy. he just doesn't like country fingerstyle. this video is amazing all the way thru.

  • someone knows the name of the second song he plays.??..please tell me

  • dude what is the name of the first song he plays?, does he have any other book than that goldish brown looking book? cause that ones not in mine.

  • Wow! Have grabbed the audio of that to play in the car.

  • Супер!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:)))

  • got get me a thumb pick so i can go up easier

  • Bet he plays a mean banjo too!

  • Yeah, check out the end of the new DVD.

  • Holy, fucking, shit, this guy's good.

  • i agree tommy is really good (and from far my favorite) but i think doyles is good enough for playing with tommy...

Actually when i head tommy with other palyer the différence is to big.. but when he plays with doyles i love that :)

    ps: sorry for my english)

  • Yeah i like Ole Tommy E,but this i know for a fact, they both really respect each others Guitar Playing Ablility, this i know. They are both Very Very Talented indeed. :-)

  • You don't have to bash him to make T.E. look better. Tommy and Doyle do shows together because they are both insanely phenomenal and have a deep-set respect for eachother's skills. No one makes Doyle look like "a little hackish" because he isn't one, never has been, and never will be. Tommy Emmanuel would agree with me.

  • Comment removed

  • Just shut the hell up and try and appreciate them both for what they are. You make an absolute fool out of yourself with your assinine "critique".

  • Uncalled for.

  • A QUARTER MILLION, SOUL!!!

    and thanks from everyone

  • Taylor Swift has this guitar!!!!COOL HUH!?!?!?!

    My role model

  • lol too happy to play the blues

  • Damn good!!

  • Well that was an unexpected and amazing 17 minutes and 29 seconds of my life. You've gotta love youtube.

  • This si really good. I am just discovering him. Thanks to YouUTbe!

  • great player I wish he played collings.. that thing sounds like a banjo

  • awesome playing, what is the song that starts around 3:53

  • I still haven't found what i'm lookin for, his cover of the band U2. Great song.

  • At 3:53, that is a U2 song. He's plays a medley of them.

  • I'm practicaly Doyle's biggest fan. Love what you do man, YOU GO DOYLE!! :)

  • Very Cool!

    Lindsey

  • Does someone know the title of the song from 15;48?

    Tell me,please.

  • Glory, Glory, Hallelujah... according to wikipedia it is an american black spiritual...idk.

  • Battle Hymn of the Republic in Chet Atkins style. Part of his Patriotic Medley from Songs of Faith and Freedom album. Also on his re-release of H.E.A.T.

  • Greatest fingerstyle guitarist ever .... that's pretty TALL praise coming from Fingerstyle Guitar Magazine ... one bad ass inspirational picker!!!! Makes me want to burn all my guitars......

  • Well I'd be careful with these praises... There's also a certain "Tommy Emmanuel" out there, for instance.

That said, Doyle Dykes is a great guitarist.

  • There are some videos out there of Tommy Emmanuel and Doyle Dykes playing together. Fun!

  • Does anyone know the song title from 8:37 on? Howling in the hills or something like that?

  • howling of the wood.

  • He's in the pocket.

  • good lord you can play!!!! i only dream of being this good haha it will never happen though. your amazinggg.

  • Brian Adams Cover is awesome!

  • Can he play anything other than pull offs and hammer on?

  • I tell ya what Josh, post a vid of you doin your best stuff here on U Tube, and let the rabid jackels rip apart your best efforts. Can you play this country music finger pickin style? Does Taylor or any Guitar Co sponsor you and your music, your gigs, travel, or furnish their finest guitars for you?.....yeah I thought so.....

  • you tell him man. DD has speed, precision, and style. Who the hell does this Josh think he is to make his rediculous comment?!

  • @ronftluvr: I think this Josh character cannot recognise anything other than hammer-ons and pull-offs. EVERY guitar perfomance by Doyle employs plenty of just about every guitar technique known to modern guitar playing. The trouble is YOU, JOSH, you are can't see God-given talent if it stood right in front of you, licking your ears.

  • I have seen this guy live 7 times, and trust me when I say he can play anything better than you have ever seen it played before. The guy is jaw droppingly amazing. Acoustic Fingerstyle Guitar Magazine regards him as the greatest finger stylist ever! Enough said.

  • @SaskStrum They've never seen Paco De Lucia?

  • I am not familiar with him but i'll be sure to check him out. I guess one the reasons i'm such a fan of Doyle's is I just really dig his style of music, country/blues/jazz/contemporary all fused together.

  • @SaskStrum u should check out Kotaro Oshio or Andy Mcee

  • I have. They are fabulous. There is just something about Doyles fusion of country, blues, jazz and contemporary that does it for me me. I know it down to personal taste but I think this Doyle is it for acoustic guitar.

  • @SaskStrum

He is one of the very best indeed and his tunes stand the test of time due to their excellent melodic and rhythmic content. Stephen Bennett has similar qualities. Doyle is a great performer live - very engaging and personable. I love him.

  • @SaskStrum Tommy Emmanuel is well worth checking out, I think you might find he it at least as good if not slight better than DD, but they both are phenomenal players regardless of how we might rate them.

  • @spacecowboy2k I have listened to a lot of Tommy's stuff and I think he is truly amazing. To my ears and tastes however Doyle has that country/blues thing going on which I really love. Tommy to my ears is more contemporary for the most part. I guess it's just down to personal taste.

  • @SaskStrum I couldn't agree more. I saw him do a Taylor workshop with Chris Proctor. I have never seen someone just totally own the guitar like he does. He did certain techniques I have never seen anyone do before...stuff with harmonics that just left me dumbfounded. And he never played a wrong note or anything off rhythm. One of the best, hands down.

  • can you play anything

  • @Joshualancing he is doing alot more than those O.o

  • @Joshualancing You just saw a 17 min video of some of his playing, and you saw nothing but pull-offs and hammer-ons? Get your eyes checked.

  • I'm a computer idiot.I've been using u tube and watching all the greats from rock to rockabilly to country.i'm getting much better and faster than ever thanks to all the musicians posting all this great stuff!

  • You mean you're getting to be a better and faster idiot?

  • Doyle is my Favorite!!

  • Jimi Hendrix was not so good

  • jimi was actually a terrible guitarist... he literally knew nothing about playing, not even one chord

  • You think Jimi Hendrix didnt know even a single chord??

  • he didn't he never learned how to play he taught himself what sounded good by locking himself in a room for 6 hours straight

  • do you realise how ridiculous you sound,,"he never learned" yet "he taught himself" , its doesnt matter what way you learn to play any instrument as long as you can ACTUALLY PLAY IT!!!! thats like saying , leonardo da vinci never learned how to paint,, he taught himself, its the type of thing only an idiot would say, if you think jimi hendrix didnt know any chord then have a look at some of his tabs, youll find some chords in there

  • i said he "taught himself what sounds good", which is different, and jimi hendrix didn't tab his songs other people tab them based on what they think sounds right, not based on what he actually played. and since every note is representative of a chord, of course there would be people that interpret it that way, but that doesn't mean he played the chord

  • your still missing the point,he could play the music,he also played live covers through the years, they would have had chords in them,i understand the point your trying to make but your still wrong,it doesnt matter how much chord names or theory you do or dont know, ,the whole point of theory is an aid to help actually playing the music. If you can make the sound from an instrument that you want, or play a song that somebody else OR you wrote, well then you have achived the goal of playing music.

  • Don't you think you're getting a "LITTLE" too far ??

  • no i do not

  • watch woodstock improvisation to see his brilliant mastery

  • he knows what sounds good, but he's really not that good he messes up a lot and really his songs are pretty easy

  • Those that CAN do...those that CAN'T talk smack on YouTube.

  • i don't know if anyone has ever said anything more true

  • if in your opinion you dont like Jimi Hendrix playing style or material fair enough, to say that he literally cannot play is a statement that im very surprised that you would even try to defend.

  • i actually do like some of his material, and didn't say he "literally cannot play" because there are videos and recordings of him playing. all i'm saying is he didn't have any training in traditional guitar styles, and i wasn't saying it to put him down i was just sharing a little fact. also, he was a dumbass for shooting heroin into his forehead and dying

  • I just came from seeing this awesome guitar player. WOW! I was in awe. There just aren't words for his playing except WOW!

  • Comment removed

  • Tomrafc Its called "howlin in the wood"

  • cheers =->

  • he can play,

but I really like his hair.
