  • it has a jeff beck feel at times :-S

  • ok i have listened to this song about 50 times in a few days and im still listening. in other words I CANT GET ENOUGH. :)

  • I've heard this song played before me, it was one of the most thrilling experiences of my life.

  • tHIS SONG IS CUTE

  • Yeah but Misha is like "never heard of em" eh?..that's not nice lol

  • 240p = Evil.

  • Better described by the artist and his whole of a subcrew at this time i'm quite certain - idealy yet not quite cleverly put spontanity being, breaking into the soundscapes for more veracity!

  • two words: Blade Runner. (and Deus Ex also)

  • Comment removed

  • If you like this, try out Epoch Crysis :)

  • I love djent without vocals, but this would be great with some Devin Townsend sprinkled here and there!

  • 360p disabled for safety reason

  • @aneverlastingbreath nevermind as long as the sound quality stays the same. ^^

  • This is so sick.Love it how the three Dislikes dont effect the Green bar status. =)

  • I listen to this 10x a day, and I'm sharing this band with everyone I know. Support Chimp Spanner!

  • How the hell could anyone dislike this? Absolute fools! Genius

  • those melodics parts reminds me to Dan Swano (edge of sanity) >.<

  • SOOO fucking EPIC!!!

  • These bands / internet guys really go for Meshuggah's sound. What I also notice is that they're also heavily inspired by their artwork, lyrics, and concepts. Certainly none if them are as dark or as twisted. I give some credit to a band like Coprofago; they've been doing this, what some people reputedly refer to as "djent", for awhile now. They went for that classic Destroy Erase Improve sound. No matter how good you are, you'll never be on the same level as Meshuggah. That band is evil.

  • @Mzral The last two sentences are an obvious fact. Really, the best thing ANY musician can do, is the play to the best of THEIR OWN ability, and achieve one's OWN sound. :)

  • explosive diarrhea bass

  • brilliant song

  • mmmmmm soo groovyyy!!!

  • tosin abasi is the reason i'm here, but i've known about chimp spanner. he's a BEAST

  • iloved

  • thumbs up to the ladies "jilling it" to this song

  • @bhfam you mean 'djilling it'? ;D

lol, sorry, first time I've had the opportunity to use that joke. :P

  • @rockster07 impressive.

  • Check out David Maxim Micic, another impeccable and upcoming guitarist, kinda has the same groove as this demigod of prog metal.

  • @relaxedmonk Cool another Got-Djent artist! Thanks for the reco and i'm downloading his first Ep right away!

  • @relaxedmonk you're right ,thx 4 the advice !

  • @relaxedmonk tosin abasi, animals as leaders

  • @relaxedmonk Nice.. Does he have any Periphery influence or Periphery got any influence on him? Their riffs are a bit similar.

  • @thiago88smart Misha.

  • @thiago88smart This song is from imperium vorago which came out in 2005, so even if bulb project is pretty old, i think periphery got influence on him;)

  • the world would be a better place if artists like this were as popular as bieber

  • anybody got an idea how he recorded his stuff? miking amps or using pods/ axe fx?

  • @Tangakkai he only the uses the pod x3 pro and a keyboard for the most part

  • @briangabriel89

hey thanks for the answer. I must say it beats the crap out of many amp sounds i've heard in a long time. Great Sound and perfect EQ. What amazes me is the clarity of his guitars... there's no fuzzy or fizzy sound... for pod x3 that's guite something

  • I swear I trip on this music like it's a drug. It just takes me away.

  • His real name is Paul Antonio Ortiz, if you were wondering.

  • yes drumkit from hell

  • 5:36 is one of the best possible eargasms for me, I need a 7-8 string, and this song is going on repeat.

  • I'm here because of Misha. How about you?

  • @fbartek Referred here by a comment on a Tony MacAlpine video.

  • @fbartek same here

  • I just "discovered" Chimp Spanner. Any suggestions on which album should I download?

  • @CloggedLacrimalGland .. Well at this time there are two Discs available for download or regular mailorder .. check out the iTunes store or Chimpy's homepage for the appropriate links. --> (2005) IMPERIUM VORAGO & (2010) AT THE DREAM'S EDGE are the names ^^

  • @CloggedLacrimalGland Newest one

  • @CloggedLacrimalGland No download allowed. You must buy both albums, Imperium Vorago and At the dream's Edge, you'll like this stuff, for sure.

  • the New MESHUGGAH

  • Reminds me of the final riff in Radiance's "Downward Spiral", although it's not that fantastic. Still awesome though.

  • Chimp looks like Peter Jackson in this photo haha.

  • 2 drumers try to play it and dislike it

  • djentathon

  • fucking perfect. have been diggin`t his for a few days now, and since then i`ve had an obcession to learn to play this!

  • This song is nothing compared to "Bulb Spanner".

  • fantastic! this guy's amazing.

  • Der Chimp-Spanner-Übersong!!!

  • I feel like it definitely has a Devin Townsend feel at times.

  • @vikingwizardeyes2121 i think you might be right, DT's been so influent to most of the metalers since a couple of years and certainly Chimp spanner was among them too.

  • @Gumbixxx Billy Mays is missed by us all... Blessed be his soul...

  • this dude is a straight up genius

  • CHIMP SPANNER NEEDS TO TOUR! i just saw animals as leaders on sunday and now i need to see this guy, they should tour together!!

  • After reading about him on Sevenstring. org I finally listened just now. Holy shit!!! What have I been missing!!!! Im so glad there is music like this still coming out. Even if they dont sell a million albums they know they are great and I know they are. Keep on pumping out the amazing music Chimp!!!!

  • How about we look at how it works. Record companies find it profitable to market tasteless pop music to a younger audience between 7 and 10. Kids at that age nag and beg their parents to buy the CD. Therefore, Bieber can bring money in for the company. Metal bands especially will just be downloaded illegally by an older, more mature audience. The only money to be made in decent music is through hosting events or touring. Bieber therefore will get the views. That's how media works guys.

  • @iplaywithnoshoes the cure? teach 8-year olds to illegally download music

  • @iplaywithnoshoes I with I could pay for an album, but man, in my country any album costs $20, and music stores won't bring any recent albums. It kinda sucks.

  • @AlMachineKTC French ? :D

  • @Sniperkitten971 Chilean ):

  • @AlMachineKTC ...But same problems x) Cheer up !

  • @Sniperkitten971 Yeah, we've got youtube at least! haha

  • Sounds a little like Joe Satrioni ,but harder. Awesome; i love it.

  • @CosmicG777 I agree. His later stuff has a slight Vai feel to it, but harder obviously. Brilliant composer/guitarist.

  • This is ridiculously cool.

  • The 1 person that disliked this song deserves their thumbs cut off and then used as dog treats.

  • where can i get this besides itunes?

    cause its not on amazon...

  • the riff that starts at 1:17 is NARSTYYY

  • man, if it weren't for the internet we'd never know about any of these amazing people. YAY FOR THE INTERWEBS.

  • Like cloudkicker rock on

  • How have I not heard of this until now?!?!

  • @OneBrutalDude Exactly what i was thinking!! I love the feeling of finding new amazing music.

  • holy shit this is incredible... itunes here i come...

  • 1:16, that is a VERY Fredik Thordendal influenced solo, lovin' it :D

  • I have never enjoyed being wrong this much before. I think this vid had like 12,000 views when I first commented. It's good to see there are a bunch of people out there who still love great music!

  • there isn't any conflict in music only in your minds, my friends...

awesome song! use to be my favorite for a long time...it still is sometimes...

  • Amazing music, I wonder if he gets lonely doing everything himself.

  • Just downloaded his album, it's awesome. I highly recommend it. Don't steal it, get it from itunes and support REAL music.

  • Comment removed

  • LOL. Everyone keeps saying music is dying, but it really isn't. Some incredibly innovative and unique music keeps poring out and tbh there seems to be more of it than ever before. So many bands i can barely keep up with it all.

Just because you see Bieber everywhere doesn't mean it's influence will kill off good music.

  • This guy is an amazing composer!

  • @endoftheline9 Watchtower and Spaztic Ink; very cool too...

    Blotted Science <----very sick jams

  • Really enjoying the stuff. I never would be able to play it but then again never tried. Beautiful music man!!!

  • This is so calm compared to Meshuggah. They could put this under easy listening at the record store. Good atmosphere though.

  • iTunes didn't give me any Imperium Vorago, is this a lost item? :(

  • @JestMx filestube . com dude.

  • Hi guys would love for yous to check out my bands music! Hope you guys like us! Cheers! : )

  • i just got a bonner !

  • @jockerboofer I hate it when people say they get a boner over music. How the fuck can sounds give you a boner? What do you do jerk off when you hear good music? I could see if you were girl who has a crush on the musician but, a boner for a male composer? It just doesn't make any fucking sense unless you're really gay.

  • @ChalkyNuts

    Lol, drinkin' that haterade

  • @FeldbergThePlayer I don't know. I guess some people get wood when they hear bad ass shit. Personally I like the kid jockerboofer for his comprehension of great music. Sorry i'm an asshead. I just don't get the boner part.

  • @ChalkyNuts

The expression "I just got a boner" when applied here refers to the fact that he gains intense pleasure from listening to this music.

He probably didn't actually get a boner, and if he did then yes, that's slightly weird but oh well, that's life :)

  • Hi guys would love for yous to check out my bands music! Hope you guys like us! Cheers! : )

  • Hi guys would love for yous to check out my bands music! Hope you guys like us! Cheers! : )

  • This guy is fuckin bad ass genious, I love this !!

  • Is a chimp spanner like a monkey wrench?

  • So... This is a one-man band and he's playing bass and guitar, programming drums, his name is Chimp Spanner. Is that right?

  • @NoaOno : The name of the composer is Paul Antonio Ortiz Actually, the rest is correctly stated as far as i know..

  • @LiarOfAngmar Okay, thanks. So it's like Cloudkicker, it's not his name but it's still him :p

  • @LiarOfAngmar that's his actual name lol

  • @NoaOno he doesnt program the drums he actually plays them on the keyboard

  • Cool stuff. Modern prog as in modern but still prog, and good.

  • Why so unknown!? Should be as famous as Cloudkicker atleast.

  • Wow...just...wow. Absolutely incredible.

  • Wow this is epic! definitely got some Animals As Leaders...and a little bit DT....

  • @FeldbergThePlayer how does this have some animals as leaders in it ? since this album was released in 2005

  • @frenchicelandicpomel

I just mean that they have similar elements, not that either band sounds the same.

But since I got into AAL before CS, AAL seems older to me

  • Anyone link me to where I can get this?

  • @Sciamachymetal : iTunes buddy :]

  • @LiarOfAngmar hahahaha paying for music...thats too funny

  • Meshuggah with atomosphere and now it's a fucking genre.

  • I could put this on repeat and listen to it all day everyday

  • When music with high levels of utmost skill, proficiency and brilliance travel into my ears, I would speak endlessly on how the particular artist level of proficiency in the realm of music is most profound. However, I require three words for my reaction to this:

    I like this...

  • what pisses me off is that justin bieber's Baby has over 279,000,000 views. He obviously writes none of his shit and is the single most popular artist on youtube. Chimp Spanner puts art into sound waves unlike anyone I have ever heard before and this will never get 20,000 views.

I really hate what is happening to music. It's truly dying and only artists like this and incredibly talented bands that play real music can save it.

    This is incredibly beautiful

  • @vihockeyguy1 We must destroy the jewish empire of faceless, empty record companies only out to exploit peoples stupidity . And money. They love the money that sonic diarrhea makes for them. And the network of seething veins to the mainstream is like a sewage system to transport their empty shit to the masses . and people think its just fucking dandy too. Therein lies the real tragedy.

  • @vihockeyguy1 it's at 25,000 now

  • @vihockeyguy1

You can take comfort into the fact that this little whiner is just the flavor of the day and will soon disappear into general indifference.

Chimp Spanner on the other hand will leave a indelible mark into modern underground music.

  • @vihockeyguy1 music has always been like that, general population is retarded and retarded people like retarded things

  • @vihockeyguy1 It has over 26,000 views now!!!

  • @vihockeyguy1 well maybe there's another way of looking at it! maybe its because chimpspanner is way ahead of his time! its like were enjoying positive music from the future ; ) oh and there's tons of good independent music out there, you just gotta search for it on the net!! forget the tv and radio! their only good for video games and weather reports XD

  • @saifseven that's an optimistic and quite imaginable way of looking at the developments in music business that are yet to come...but as past has shown it doesn't seem as you're going to be proven right...

  • @ffdff im only 31, so i haven't been around long enough to know if good music is in danger! but i must admit your right! popular music is spreading like crazy! and its dropping in substance yet it seems to be shinier and more seductive to the average listener! but have no fear my friend! for us musicians and admirers of good art, the future looks really bright! production gear and equipment is now affordable+amazing value+super user friendly+internet= infinite opportunities^_^ stay positive:D:D

  • @vihockeyguy1 Music industry is about money, not music. And to be honest I'd rather keep guys like this under a rock. If this sorta music hit the mainstream it would be fuckin ruined. Look at Dubstep; only lasted about 3 years haha. I do not want to see the day where people who don't appreciate music properly abuse bands like this to a point where it just sounds dull, generic and unlistenable. My advice is to listen and enjoy while you can. Mainstream is about what's 'cool', not what's good

  • @pockthehairy couldnt'ave said it better me self mon, rrrrrrrespc

  • @vihockeyguy1 27 and a half! I completely agree with you, I assume most who search chimp spanner would. A shame indeed. What position do you play, on an off note?

  • @vihockeyguy1 28,000 views. that makes me smile lol

  • @vihockeyguy1 i couldnt agree more

  • @vihockeyguy1 As long as an idea exsists so will this music! :)

  • @vihockeyguy1 Dont worry, while they will fade like fads, metal and good music stays on top because the fans are not retarded 12 year olds with 2 second attention spans. look at Iron Maiden... they are bigger than ever.

  • @vihockeyguy1 well looks like its got just over 29K now ;-D

  • @vihockeyguy1

you do realaize the song has more dislikes than likes? who cares if it has 279000000 views if people think its shit

  • @vihockeyguy1 I agree 100%, and am happy to see you proved wrong. Almost 30k, fuck yeah.

  • @vihockeyguy1 Music isnt dying my friend. It's going through a methamorphasis.

  • Comment removed

  • @legendofyeti

all for the better; mr ortiz made this beautiful music with basic amp models and inexpensive recording studio stuff. its quite amazing what u can make nowadays and let people hear it across the world.

  • @vihockeyguy1 the day that teenage girls listen to metal, your little problem will end. until then can we quit whining about beiber. he is richer than you deal with it

  • @vihockeyguy1 They hand out record contracts like candy on Halloween... even some lady from one of those Real Housewives shows got a record contract. Don't put much stock into what's popular and what's not.

  • @vihockeyguy1

it goes 33000 views now, it's growing.. Beautiful!

  • @vihockeyguy1

    Currently at 34,186.

  • everyone has an a opinion, regardless good or bad doesn't change anything in this universe we live in

  • This is magnificent

  • @glamdring22 I prefer orcrsist ...the goblin cleaver ...... :p great song , just got into these this genre

  • Where can I get this song?! I cant find it!

  • Hey folks, chill down. I first heard him recently on a bonus CD of the magazine Classic Rock Progonosis 8. His latest effort. And that one stuck out, really. While the others on that compilation CD where stuck in old school prog - sort of archival instinct - , his was bringing some new and at least own identity to the genre. Takes a lot of guts to make it instrumental and intriguing. Though, prog-metal has been around for while, his has SOME originality to it. Not just riffing for riffs sake.

  • Cool stuff, and I can't wait to see where you music goes when you stop blatantly ripping off Fredrik Thordendal.

  • The final is amazing...

  • This guy is truly a great composer. i love the contrast between heavyness and brightness. much respect.

  • if u like this check out Tre Watson

  • Just found this guy today. FUCKING AWESOME!

  • WHERE CAN I GET IMPERIUM VORAGO AT? i just bought at the dreams edge, but i cant find imperium.

  • anyone knows how to get a hold of chimp spanners music?

  • Clarity in Chaos, I'm thinking that Chimp is keeping a clear mind while at the same time he is surrounded by a chaotic world. I can dig it.

  • Wow. Hail djent.

  • Paul Ortiz is a genius.

  • Who cares if it sounds like Meshuggah. I'd rather hear this style than anything else. As far as I see Meshuggah and bands like this are the only thing that keeps me into metal. They don't scream stupid lyrics like black metal and death metal or whatever they've contorted it into now days it sucks, but his is great man thanks for the upload!

  • im so glad i found this guy. hes just like bulb, i fucking love this shit.

  • @kamikaz1k

man, you got me wrong completely. i am a huge fan of meshuggah, but i also love this track here, it is simply great. i was not talking about some kind of mimicking, it was just parts of CiC reminding me of meshuggah. calm down, kami, chimp spanner is awesome stuff...

  • @22fret ...respect.

  • Meshuggah, anyone...?

  • @22fret christ this isnt the first time ive heard this and godammit it wont be the last. if palm-muted odd timed (ERG) playing isn't fuckin copywritten then stop bitching about it. rest of the song has some beautiful composition that meshuggah never does and frankly becomes noise after you get over their beat.

also if ur gonna bitch at people for "mimickin" meshuggah maybe u should bitch at meshuggah for playing on a solid electric guitar therefore copying Les Paul (r.i.p.)

  • the more i listen to him the more i'm amazed, i never thought that this math metal genre could ever be melodic too, i've always tried to make music like this, but it seems like 2 different worlds, cause a catchy melody is usually super easy!

  • what? dude listen to Bulb. or Animals As Leaders if u want heavy melodic shit.

  • i love both of those bands, but this guy dominates all! but i still prefer meshuggah.....i listen to this stuff when i need a break from screaming lol. but even their vocalist has got some great rhythm, and you never see singers do anything complicated rhythmic-wise.
