learn to appreciate what's different. there's more than one way to skin a cat :3 I actually like his tech cuz it's different from mine, quite curious as to how he learned to play like that..
@ptxpatrol He's resting his palm on the body instead of thumb on the pickup, which is more useful for plucking and string crossing. He's kind of pushing the strings down, leading to the clicking sound. Watch Jaco's right hand to see the opposite.
Gran trabajo hombre.
You know, neither Fender bass is appropriate for the Zender sound. The Warwick's with Wenge fretboards, are about the only way to get the sound -- even with lots of EQ.
You can hear that here. This bass type is just too empty in the midbass and upper bass, and there is no staccato punch.
Nice attempt at a cool jam! Get the sound right and play a bit more staccato, and you'll be closer.
It's in the right hand.
Stuart did not play on this album version, by the way. Crazy, eh?
I actually heard that the original version was recorded on a P bass of all things. Not sure how accurate that is(since it sounds nothing like a Warwick) but yeah.
I know a guy with a lot of nice boutique basses & when he gets a studio gig he usually just grabs his 70's P-bass. They're a classic for a reason! :-)
j-bass bigtime man.. they've got the extra growl from the bridge pickup to tighten up the sound, and they've got a tighter feel i reckon.. they feel like they're made to play jamiroquai when you are playing it.. lol
i think hes a guitarist not a bassist...i think in other videos he plays guitar. maybe he wasn't properly trained or hes most comfortable playing like that.

slapping is when you hit the middle of your thumb against one of the strings to make a sound. Popping is sliding your finger under a string and pulling straight out to make a twang sound. Usually you slap the E and A strings and pop the D and G strings.

@ptxpatrol Can explain what he is not doing: pizzicatto. But it's not WRONG. As it sounds good, it's just different.
