  • Oh, people! Children just do not see this moments! I remember when I was a kid, the most horrible part for me was when Frollo killed ants.

All this sexual stuff was just ignored. "Be mine" I really thought that Frollo just want Esmeralda somewhere around because she is cool. You know, friendship. But she did not want to be friends because he is bad, he killing ants =))

And actually I got the main point right, isn't it?

Children brains infer the same results, they just react at other things.

  • i cant watch this without wanting to poop it

  • I lol'd at the clip around 0:38

also at the first clip when Frollo looks at the well

  • Well it's not ENTIRELY a kids movie, definitely not. There's mature themes in it, such as how Frollo wants either to marry Esmeralda or to burn her in hell, and how the Hunchback's mom gets killed in the beginning.

  • @BKDBrian2 MARRY Esmeralda? ....Yeah, you could put it that way.

  • @BKDBrian2 Exactly, that's why the movie was re rated PG after it was first released on VHS as G.

  • 0:29

    Rape face.

  • really, you could've just played all of hellfire. y'know, for the kids.

  • just cuz it's animated, doesn't mean it's only for kids...

  • 1:38 HELLFIRE IN MY PANTS

  • 0:03 DO NOT WANT

  • I always thought Esmerelda was far too sexy to be a Disney chick. By the way anybody recognize that guard's voice at 0:36? That's none other than Patrick Star from Spongebob!!!!!!

  • A villian who is not out for money or power, but is consumed by sexual lust.

A heroine who is not a naive sweet innocent girl, who sexually aware (see dance scene), and knows how to use it.

Casual prejudice against a whole ethnicity

    Various depictions of death

    Torture

    Sexual blackmail

    Yep. Defininately a kids movie.

  • @mylightside There's also the conflicting "Religion is good! Religion is bad!" message.

  • I don't see what's so bad about 2:10, tell me if I'm a total moron for not catching it.

  • @Dreigonix gangbang?

  • 2:02 W-WTF?! IS SHE POLE DANCING?!?!?!?!?!

  • @Dreigonix Learned it from Clopin.

  • What, nothing about Frollo hallucinating something akin to Satan before falling to his death or his arson of the miller's house and drowning of the small camp of Romani?

  • I can't upload the whole film. Youtube would delete it!

  • I find it amusing how, out of the other videos you have, THIS is the longest segment of clips.

    God, I love this movie.

  • Watch for subtle symbolism at 1:10.

  • Ahh, no I know why my parents never let me watch this movie again after the first time they rented it when I was 3...

  • When I saw this movie as a kid and I watched Esmerelda's dance, I thought "Wow, she must have practiced for years to do moves like that." Now, seeing it while I'm in college, watching Esmerelda's dance reminds me of the last time I went to a strip club.

  • i bet a feminist did this video

  • This movie would have been perfect if not for Quasi's horrible imaginary friends, the gargoils. Uhhh...thinking of them sends shivers of terror down my spine. In my opinion they were way scarier then Frollo and that causes the movie some problems.

  • this is what a kids show should be

  • 0:24 OK, so what's up with this scene?

  • You missed out the scene where they tie up poor Quasi and humiliate him by throwing tomatoes and stuff at him. Totally a kid's film.

  • Yeah NO IT ISN'T

  • The fact that the villain is condemning makes perfect sense because it is NEVER humanity's place to condemn, it is ONLY God's place.

  • If my parents had let me watch this as a kid, I would be a better person today.

  • Aaah Disney's Hunchback of Notre Dame. Teaching me to not trust the priests in churches (I'm not sure what Frollo's real title was, I just knew that guy in churches were priests).

  • @Elementroar Frollo wasn't a priest at all. He was a secular judge. The priests were actually the good guys in the movie, since they forced him to spare Quasimodo's life, and offered Esmerelda sanctuary.

  • @loqutor In the novel by Victor Hugo Frollo is a priest. But he's also rather different to Disney's depiction.

  • @SmashTheElder Yes, I know. I've read the novel.

  • Ah hunchback i was blissfully ignorant as a child. Came back to fully enjoy and revere as an adult. One of the most mature films and I for one love it.

  • Best kids film ever.

  • I always thought of this as one of Disney's darker films. It's takes on a mature tone, more so than some of the other movies of the renaissance age of Disney.

I wish they were willing to make more movies of this quality. There were many breathtaking moments in this film, from Esmerelda's song to Frollo's Hellfire. It's a true work of art.

  • Honestly I think of the vlassics Hunchback is so dark I mean this is the farthest of movies it touches everything slavery race its pretty deep I never looked at it as a kids movie

or Hercules for that matter maybe the first 20 mins coincidentley i grew up on disney and the only two movies my mom never let me watch were these two

    but i love them

  • Frollo is SO unholy.

  • I loved this film when it came out and I was six, but it definitely made an impact. I remember quite clearly my mom remarking on how she couldn't believe it was a PG film.

  • @GiantPetRat Yeah, there's some pretty adult content in there, but I think Disney pulled it off perfectly.

  • ...and you chose to disclude Frollo falling into a pit of molten metal because...?

  • 'Hellfire' is, no doubt, the greatest Disney Villain song of all time, and thats saying something, considering that Disney Villain songs are the best songs of any Disney canon...

  • God, Tony Jay has such an amazing voice as Frollo! Best Disney villain of all time!

  • how the fuck dd i watch this as a kid?

  • I knew this one was going to be long. this film scarred me for life! :p

  • lol tvtropers are lol-ing with every comment

  • Hunchback of Notre Dame: "You know, for kids!"

  • TVTropers! ASSEMBLE!!!

  • Surprised you didn't put in the burning home part as well.

  • It isn't a kids movie.

    But damn is it awsome.

  • "you sneaky son of a-"

"Ah ah ah, watch it. You're in a church."

    Change that last line to

"You're in a Disney movie" and it still works.

  • God, the music in any scene involving Frollo is simply epic.

  • Most hardcore Rated G movie ever.

  • and this got a g rating

  • This is at least a full minute longer than any of the other "is a kids movie" videos... clearly this is the most kid-friendly Disney movie yet

  • "Look at that disgusting display."

    "Yes, SIR."

  • BEST DISNEY MOVIE EVER PERIOD NO ARGUING

  • "D?"

    "Damnation."

    "E?"

    "Eternal damnation!" ;D

I ROFL'd at how cheerfully Quasi winks and points at "eternal"

  • I bet Frollo was inhaling the scent of that scarf EVERY time he's off-screen. :'D

  • SHE WAS JUST ABOUT TO SWERE 2:26

  • So Esmeralda invented pole dancing!

  • 3:07 Ya know..... for the kids!

  • Frollo wants Esmerelda to sear his flesh and BONE, alright. *EYEBROW RAISE*

  • 2:23, after that scene there was - Phoebus: You fight almost as well as a man. Esmeralda: Funny, I was going to say the same thing about you.

  • So out of all the Disney movies Hunchback of Notre Dame has the most innuendos and racism.

  • @Johnffrey87 Oh, easily. Yet somehow it really works for this movie.

  • HboND is a kid's movie = Blatant lies.

  • @NicholasGeschke

    Someone is a TV troper.

  • @NicholasGeschke

It's not supposed to be a kid's movie. It's supposed to be a FAMILY movie, meaning that there's something in it that appeals to each member of the family. Therefore the sexual connotations, etc., are there for the benefit of the adults. The same goes for The Lion King, Aladdin, The Little Mermaid and all the other movies spotlighted by click4mychannel. Why is this so difficult for some people to understand?

  • But seriously, Frollo was easily one of if not the best of Disney villains. He is the embodiment of all that is evil in animation. And that voice is awesome.

  • haha, you added this from TV tropes didn't you? :)
