Gorden with hair, Mr hooper's still alive, Oscar is orange, and Big Bird is freaky looking. I'm glad I wasnt around til 1979, this would've disturbed me abit. lol
@planetrockford No, I meant he was alive back then. I was speaking for the time. I remember the episode of when Mr. Hooper died. It was a sad moment of my childhood.
@benvolieo i heard the guy that did big bird then, did big bird for decades. in this first episode i heard that the guy that does big bird was 16 at the time or something like that.
Matt Robinson left the series in 1972 for undisclosed reasons and was replaced by Hal Miller. Miller himself left in 1974 for undisclosed reasons and was replaced by Roscoe Orman. Orman had actually been with the series from almost the very beginning, playing Hardhead Henry Harris in the Roosevelt Franklin Elementary School sketches.
Oh, I know. Even if they were to use double-layer DVD's, that would still be quite a bit; it would have to be released in installments and not as a huge box set. But, I guess I was just wishfully thinking out loud.
There's a website called hooperfan which has old SS photos and a transcpipt of a 1971 book called All About Sesame Street which says nothing about Matt's daughter playing Holly.
However, it does mantions she and her brother doing a scene.
Wow. I've always wondered how does he move. That's kinda cool/wierd. I was always scared of Big Bird when I was a toddler. Now I'm 19 & still trip out on him. How do you know that about Big Bird?
What? OMG Look at Big Bird. Wasn't Luther Vandross on this frist or second episode of Sesame Street. Big Bird reminds me of Bullwinkle. He sounds & acts just like him.
*nods* Big Bird was originally supposed to be a "bumbling adult" character before they changed him to a "bright and curious kid" character...I'm betting that they designed the costume with the bigger head after that. (Back in Season 1, he looked like a plucked chicken!)
This vid, and the last I two posted, come from original video collection of YouTube user ISNorden. Back in 2006 and 2007, she was like THE user if you were looking for rare Old School Sesame material. You name it, she had it. Unfortunately, by orders of the Sesame Workshop, she had to take all of her videos down. On the bright side, most of her vids have popped up back on YouTube, thanks to fellow Sesame users like MarshalGrover, jonnytbirdzback, and myself =)
BTW, I do have the first episode of Sesame Street ...on DVD that is: On Sesame Street: Old School Vol. 1. I don't think I'll be able to post it. And even if I am able to, It's probably already on YouTube.
@Jbrangwynne53 : Sesame Workshop didn't order the clips taken down; according to some correspondence ISNorden sent, another YouTube user threatened to contact some friends at SW's legal department. (I'll explain the rest in personal messages if you need to know more.)

I don't like that original portrayal of Big Bird. Nevertheless, did these Ernie & Bert pilots ever get released? I'd like to see it in its entirety.
Come on, Sesame Workshop, how about the complete first season for SS-40!
superAJ71 2 years ago 2
@superAJ71
Releasing complete seasons of Sesame Street isn't very practical---since from 1969 to 1998, every season had 130 episodes.

How do they move Big Bird like that? Is he a robot? When I was little I used to think he was actually real. But how ?
