I went to Kinnick from 94-99 and I remember playing football and every time we would make a touchdown the band would play Imperial March. I was like why do they keep playing that? Someone was like oh you never heard of the Mark Hamil award? I'm like Mark Hamil yes award no. Oh he graduated from Kinnick years ago. I always thought that was kind of a cool story.
Mark Hamill was a Yo-Hi Devil, my sisters went to school with him and they have the yearbook also. I was younger and went to Sullivan's Middle School (now Yokosuka Middle School)

mark was at yo-hi at the same time i was at zama. we had elizabeth edwards, wife of former presidential candidate john edwards (now infamous for his sex scandal). she was a cheerleader and yearbook editor. we lived at sagamihara dependent housing, where christina aguilera once lived. the late singer/songwriter john denver and his brother lived at johnson air base (now iruma air base... it was given back to the japanese in the early '70s). just a little more famous military brat trivia to share.
Yes, he graduated the same year as my older brother from Nile C. Kinnick High School in Japan, Class of 1969. I've seen his year book and Mark Hammil was in it. No surprise that he was involved in the drama club!
Mark Hamill graduated at an American School in Japan?? ASIJ? "Brian Walters... UUUAAHHH! Okay that was ugly" ahaha, that made me giggle. I love how you looked so happy with yourself for a split second, but then thought about it &realized it sounded off x]
I knew that. I heard he had a car accident and fixed his face so he doesn't look same any more... Anyway, that an interesting awards. Thanks for the video.
Oh wow, of all things. By the way, were you at this school for the same reasons as Mark Hamill, meaning that you had parents in the military relocating to different locations often?
@systemjap It wasn't a Japanese school. Yo-Hi (or Yokohama High School, now Nile C. Kinnick H.S.) was an American school for dependents of U.S. military and civilian personnel living in and around Yokohama, Japan and the nearby Yokosuka Naval Base.
Nice to see you DO remember SOMETHING from high school. I'll never forget watching you win that award. Pretty cool. And my fave Mark Hamill performance(s): as the Joker in the Batman animated series. So you kinda followed in his footsteps in another way.
Mark and I used to shop at the same Comic Book store in Santa Monica, CA - and his name is Hamill and mine is Harris, so we shared the same pull box. :)
I met him a couple times at the store - very nice guy.

That's right. I took mechanical drawing classes with him in Yokohama in
1970 or 71. I remember him in the play You're a Good Man Charlie Brown
around the same year.

1969. He graduated from there. Facebook WANDA MCCOLLAR. She taught him. (she's currently starting her 54th year of teaching. Holy cow, Brian!)
Sadly, he doesn't have anything to do with KHS--even when they tried to contact him about the award. He's busy I guess. Being the Joker is a busy job!
