@FEARandLOATHINGgirl Yes she is! I'm always deep in a trance when I watch her. Every woman is an art piece and she is the number 1 example of such art work!
Another great thing about the 60's: Looks didn't play a role in the music people listened to. An ugly woman proved she could sing as good as the prettiest women.
I'm glad to know that because I listen to all types of older music that my kids are growing up with the understanding of good classic music. R.I.P Janis. Man that woman knew how to rock! The best female rocker of all time for sure!
I saw her in Seattle at the Rainier baseball stadium there was the Youngbloods, Steve Miller with a group called PG&E. she had a flask with southern comfort ....gawd that woman could sing. we were sitting in right field on the grass but Janis came to the stage we all stood most of us dancing smiling our asses off. RIP Janis
Just an awe inspiring performance. Its fun to watch her strut her stuff. How can you get tired of watching it? She's the chick you got stoned with in high school.
Janis was a seasoned performer by this time....the problem with many of today's talent is that they don't need to have experience to become huge...they don't have to earn their way to the top because EVERYONE who has ANY kind of talent today is scrutinized beyond belief by the media and their fate is decided upon judges and the rest of the world to decide.....of course there are exceptions but all of these tv contests are producing people with no substance.
this was when people could really sing and didn't have to use technology to enhance their voices, singers now days don't even have to have a voice it sad!!!
Disco did not ruin Rock & Roll! Sad that the same folks who would claim "freedom" would bash another genre of music. FYI - during the disco days, GLAM rock was born, and you don't hear any disco fans bashing Queen.
We had such good music in the late sixties and early 70's until disco ruined it. Hey kiddies, you have some really cool grandparents. Talk to them about what they experienced. Love Janice!!!
janis has soul....passion....great players...i treat the old music like its current, because it blows the new stuff away.in regaurds to heavy rock in this day in age, bands like astra from cali, witchcraft from sweden, the devils blood, graveyard, these are great current bands but...back in the day there were more...bands like buffalo, camel, nektar, mahavishnu orchestra, toad, janis, the doors, the who, lucifers friend, carmen maki and blues creation, warlord, pentagram, the pink floyd, flower traveling band ect.
Saw her in Honolulu about 3 months before she OD'd... may be her last.... saw her before the show in the bar at the Princess Kaiulani hotel, she was embarrassingly drunk as a skunk, but later on stage it seemed the more she drank the better she got... she fell right on her ass a couple of times... her appearance was rather scary, at that time... seemed she "had" the blues she was singing. Love ya Janis, wherever you are!!!
I saw Zeppelin '75, Deep Purple '74 &76, Stones '77,The Who '78,and a bunch more. But my biggest regret is not getting to see Janis live in Concert. Man o man she was and is great. No one put so much energy into a song. Todays acts couldnt carry her spit bucket. She was/ is the Queen of Rock, the Queen of Funk. RIP baby, we miss you.
@MegaBob77777 im so jealous of you,i saw james brown at oxegen music festival here in ireland a few yrs ago,he was on early in the morn(we were camping)none of my friends would come see him with me,i went alone, amazing act,he died two months later,so glad i saw him!

"If it's a dream I don't want nobody to wake me." Wow, this performance is 42 yrs old today!!! I so wish I could of been there!!!!! Would have been awesome to see Janis live....so love her music!!!

What a vibrant personality she had!!! She truly kicked Rock N' Roll on its ass, and completely turned upside down, the views of how a "woman singer" should act. She was so raw and intense, and goddamn, did she have soul...how could you not feel that when she sings? She gave everything she had in her performance, losing her was one of the saddest moments in Music. It's the 42nd Anniversary of Woodstock now, and she is first on my list of Woodstock music to listen to.

Your Dad told you wrong. Janis loved her audiences and her audiences loved her. She talked to us a great deal between songs, breaking down the wall between star and fan. Your Dad may have confused a few humorous F-words for screaming obscenities but that's OK - he did a good job raising you or you wouldn't be checking the lady out.
My dad told me that Janis would scream obscenities at the audience after every song... but I've seen these videos and haven't heard her cussing them out. And man. She was awesome! Wish I could travel back to that day and sneak in to that festival.
@sanjouindacapo You more than likely would not have even had to sneak in. Thousands of people ended up getting in without paying because of last minute change of location and then having poor facilities and such. It was still amazing! Ah, woodstock is why we have concerts the way we do today. :) Woodstock was the start of many things. <33 man. :) I just can't even explain(i also suck at explaining) what I wanna explain. You just feel all chill xD or yeha. xD

Shunned & castigated in her hometown - she couldn't have enjoyed this more.Half a million strangers grooving to her music ,with more love in their hearts for her than a couple of hundred Port Arthurs.
@FreakyHippieMe Remember, you'd have to be born in the forties to be at least a teenager in the 60's. No internet, no stupid smartphones, phones have cords, no cd players, tapes weren't around yet, and if you followed timothy leary in his quest, it was likely, you became a permanent cripple.

The alternate version is better. Please look it up. You will not be sorry. Let me know what you think of these rare tracks.
Janis, I'll never ever forget your concert in Kansas City, KS three months before you were gone. Just the thought of it gives me goosebumps. Nobody performed live like you did. Nobody gave as much. Thank you, thank, thank you.
Hello, my name is Becky, to anyone watching this video - I need to interview someone for my school project, you have had to be around 17, 18 around the time of woodstock, my main focus is to find out about lsd and psychadelic mushrooms in that time. If you are willing to go through an online interview PLEASE let me know and reply here that would be amazing, or email me at bexter321@aol.com. Thanks so much.
This is the first time I ever listened to Janis Joplin, and jesus... Where has she been all my life.... Oh my god.. That voice.. Nothing today will ever touch her..
It is hard to believe that this did not make the original cut into the Woodstock movie. Somebody really thought Sha na na was better than Janis Joplin? Give me a break. She soars!

Millions of us wanted to be at Woodstock
but we couldn't get there. We understood
what was happening though. At the end of
a tumultuous decade the youth of America,
whether at Woodstock or not, were saying
"We are hurting, but we are hopeful. We
are trying to help heal our nation. And we're
not going to give up." God bless America

This, is the definition, of music with meaning! I love this song, it motivates me and helps me keep going on, when the times, just get you down.

I lived in the 60s and the music was as good as you think it must have been if you were not there. Better because we lived it.

It is hard to believe that this did not make the original cut into the Woodstock movie. Somebody really thought Sha na na was better than Janis Joplin? Give me a break. She soars!
