Anyone who says the end of this is stupid is missing the point of the entire film. it very clearly, is what it is. Here are my thoughts. Most people came to watch this film expecting to get and entire movie filled with what this scene has to offer. only they thought they were going to get it in beautiful computer graphics. but when the director chooses to turn the art style to reflect how most of Japanese art is portrayed in movies and tv today, people get angry and say its cheap.

I think this kind of humour were used by Monty Python too, called absurd (surreal) humour. (See for example Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975)

Ive seen monty python and the holy grail. Its great. But this movie is still unique in its use of such candid violence in this last scene. That's what makes it so funny, and Monty Python never did that, not even in the flying circus.

This is much funnier when you see how this is the ending, or rather the anti-climax of the entire film - you should watch the trailer for Big Man Japan first. It's almost like another mini movie parodying the same subject, only tackling the silly reality of guys in costumes smacking each other amidst scale model cities a la Ultraman instead of the mock documentary that makes up the entire movie that leads up to it. This is one of the most inspired films in ages, and one of the funniest.
