ya know what when jim died sesame street was still an amazing show . jim henson god rest his soul would be flipping in his grave if he saw what they've done in the last two or three years . ernie and burt gay bullshit snuffle , burt ran over , oscar is no longer a grouch , and veggie monster please it has gone to hell i hope they all burn for what they have done to sesame street might as well call it government rules and regulations street . it's an outrage what they have done . kill 'em all
all right finally the the first time we get to see the title for Sesame Street Canada in a tv Speical did'nt happen in the 20'th Sesame Street special
Actually Sesame Street is the one thing that Henson company retained rights to. They did sell the muppets to disney, something Jim was in talks with disney about just before he died and it went on hold. He liked the idea that they would have a permanent home there, and then he can go work on more ambitious projects... which sadly he never got to do, and then disney did take something very special and treat it third rate. Just compare their 30th anniversary to the 50th.. case in point.
FLP: Sesame Workshop (formerly Children's Television Workshop) owns Sesame Street now, and with Disney owning The [Classic] Muppets (from The Muppet Show & Muppet Babies), Henson only still owns Fraggle Rock out of all its "Muppet" family franchises.
@FLPman: Well, it's no different than Disney doing the same for its own classics by overshadowing them all with tween trash (and not even trash Oscar would want).
If I'm not mistaken, Disney didn't acquire the rights to the Sesame Street muppets (except for Kermit). But you're right, the show is hard to watch now; WAY too much damn Elmo! This is how cool Sesame Street was then compared to now: Today, a comic like Dave Chappelle would NEVER be invited to appear on Sesame Street. Back then, Richard Pryor...& I'm talking Richard Pryor in his most raunchy, coked-out period...was on Sesame Street NUMEROUS times! Sadly, the magic passed on with Henson.
@junedeon I know what you mean. I have been through Sesame Street three times and it has changed so much since the 70s, 80s. Way too much Elmo which scares me not to mention Oscar is actually nice.
Personally I think that Sesame was at its best for about 9-10 years after Jim died. The guys at the Henson Company were running around like a chicken without a head, everybody was suing everybody & they didn't know what would become of the muppets, so instead of making a TON of new stuff for sesame the 90's were like a decade long best-of special with all the best old stuff from the 70's & 80's with some pretty good new stuff thrown in. Then it just spiraled downward b/c Frank Oz left the show.
Well, you're right, but I only said that, because no one else commented on this video. But I do know for a fact that Sesame Street went downhill sometime during the Elmo's World era.

Jim didn't want to do Sesame Street at first!!!! He didn't want to be seen as a kids performer, it took much convincing to get him to work on it.

it really is... it sucks now! In the begining they rap the theme!

Bigtime. He wouldn't recognize the show in it's current state.
Then Disney bought out Henson productions, and that was the end of the Muppets franchise.
