crewdawgf16 - thanks for reading the books and your comment - it was an interesting time of life in a difficult war. We had neither the equipment, knowledge, strategy nor tactics to deal with the enemy we faced, so we just did dumb things that were later termed heroic - in the process we lost many lives and airplanes. Only later did I come to realize how sad was our plight as a nation, an Air Force, and as Mistys - Don Shepperd
I've read both this book and "Bury Us Upside Down" many times during my countless missions over Iraq and the Stan. Simply put, you're a bunch of heroes, and I'm sure there are many like me that are beyond envious. A big thank you to all of the Mistys.
As soon as I finished "MISTY" I picked up "Bury us Upside Down," which I finished tonight. Both books were recommended to me by my flight commander from the B-Course at Luke. He was right, I was not able to put either of these books down!
Thank you for your service and for sharing the MISTY story.
Misty is a collection of first person stories from the Misty FACs - I could write a book about writing the book - this was a wild, cantankerous and rebellious group that have not become any easier to deal with in their 60s, 70s and 80s as I attempted to gather their stories - flying combat was sometimes easier by comparison - Don Shepperd
I am currently reading "Bury Us Upside Down: The Misty Pilots and the Secret Battle for the Ho Chi Minh Trail", and it is fascinating to learn of the dangerous missions you and your buddies flew.
I'm reading "Bury Us Upside Down" right now and "Misty" will be next. What great stories. I did not know about your heroic missions and your bravery. I was in the USAF from 1971-75 but was a missileer myself.

Thanks for your comment - I flew with heroes but any heroism on my part was entirely inadvertent - Don Shepperd, co-author Bury us Upside Down

Don,

You guys are certainly brave and I salute you.
