Mark Knopfler Signature Strats vs. 1964 Stratocaster: Down to the Waterline

1/ the hot rod red MK

2/ the dakota MK

3/ the original 64

All are very nice and good strats. Perhaps the 64' original ( so far the prettiest of the bunch ...), is better for other applications : classic rockabilly, classic rock...

I personnally don' t like the dakota version of the MK because the hot rod red is so much cooler and nice.

did you ever try a japanese reissue 62 strat? I have one and having tested the mk strat I can tell that mine is better the model is st62-tx (tx stands for texas special pick up)

i like more the dakota red sound, more crisp, but I think the best strat would be the 57 fiesta red, which has a brighter and crisp sound. You play these licks so good indeed, ciao from Italy

Man, you play this stuff so beautifully with such attention to detail. Can you do a lesson on the chicken picking type sound that you get on those runs because I just can't work out how you get that sound. Keep up the good work.

The best and deeper sound is from the 64, no doubt about it.

interesting comparison! the 2 MK signatures don't have the same sound (the second one has a sharper sound). The 64 strat sounds warmer.
