The pilot(s) of any aircraft will reject a takeoff if there's any kind of problem during the takeoff roll that makes takeoff unwise, provided that the aircraft hasn't reached a speed and position that prevents it from coming to a complete stop on the runway. Brakes are always used to stop the aircraft in this case, but spoilers and reverse thrust can be used, too, in some cases. None of this is unique to the A330.
@britishairwayspilot1 ive been having fun with the spammers here. getting pathetic when htey spam yt vids, as well as email. hell soon enough we'll see it in online games
@DMCcornish there is a city called "Cameron Airparc" where the citizens are mostly (when not only) pilots and they take off on their street and land at work... I hope I will live there too one day...
You know what folks? I am not worried about take off runway lenght at all. What I really worry is how much runway is needed for landing!!! Certainly not as short as it was for taking off ! Right? Hope it could land in the same lenght of runway.I f so then I am going to buy this kind of airplane, build a airfield of 40 feet in my village and I will be the most hapiest man in the world ! Lol
2 teachers from my school in England flew with this guy in Alaska. Both sat on the floor in tandem, behind the pilot with a little luggage. the remaining bags were lashed to the struts!!!
I think it's funny when people get on here and criticize, like they can do better. Most probably don't even fly. I am not knocking the folk who are stating facts or making technical comments, just the silly people who try to make themselves appear more of an expert by belittling other peoples skills.
@yamahonkawazuki yes and no, it will only help stop the fuel from detonating from compression, it will still ignite fine when the spark plug sparks it, all octane booster would do is help get the full use of the fuel but in reality, unless the gas you're normally using is extremely low octane, it won't do that much really to increase the octane.
@Flightkid9 right. im sorry. i should have answered better. some believe you go to auto parts house. and get a bottle, throw it in tank, and you double horsepower. they are sadly mistaken. im not sure of teh specs on this engine. or anything. so to me its just a semi educated guess. ive gotten my hands on 120 octan avgas before. used to be able to get it by the barrel. had set my motorcycle to run on it. IIRC was leaded at the time. still may be im not sure. would love to find it again.
yeah there was a headwind, still the Vx on these cubs that have been modified are pretty incredible, even with now wind it would have been around the same, stout little aircraft
Why does everyone seek to prove their intellignece on this topic instead of attempting to understand why someone would think a tailwind decresed the take-off roll? A tailwind does increase ground speed JMan after the plane is in the air but keep in mind an airplane must generate lift in order to fly which is produced by air striking the leading edge of a wing and flowing over it and under it. Airplanes always attempt to take-off and land into the wind for this reason.
No. U don't understand. A tail wind will result in a longer ground roll. (more time spent on the ground). A head wind increases air flow over the airfoil therfore creating more lift, shorter takeoff distance
:DD silly jman. speed relative to the ground doesn't matter, only the speed relative to air, hence when there is headwind, you go faster relative to the air than you would with tailwind.
you obviously know nothing about aerodynamics JManGuitar5150. lol
A headwind = stronger/faster airflow over the wing during the takeoff role, thus more lift is created earlier in the takeoff role than would be normally.
A tailwind would have the opposite effect, where life would actually be diminished and the takeoff role would be longer.
The physical forward speed has absolutely nothing to do with takeoff distance.. it's the speed of the airflow over the wing.
@X6insane6X dammit you stole my thunder. in his case. id simplify it. strong headwind = more lift. shorter takeoff, but lower speed. strong tailwind = longer take off but slightly higher speed
No! Tailwind makes your takeoff LONER, because the speed of air bleeding past your wings is LOWER. Headwind increases speed of air bleeding past your wing so you get enough lift EARLIER :)
the original cub could take off pretty dam quick let alone a super cub those wings were HUGE cuz the 4 cylinder engine had to be able to get it into the air going less than 60 mph
No need to fake it. With a strong headwind, STOL aircraft in particular can actually fly with with less ground roll than this, and even be flying backwards if you want to. If you've seen the movie "The Gods must be crazy II", you'll see one such aircraft doing that. Don't know if they used special effects for that particular stunt, but with that strong of a wind, they wouldn't have had too.
still think it looks fake..... (i put that once before i and i got alot of comments of people saying iam dumb, i kinda ejoyed it, so i though i would come back and do it againe) FAKE AS SHIT!!!
this seems like a pointless competition if headwind speeds are not factored. Excluding uniqueaircraft factors such as weight, design and engine performance, the pre-existing wind (which the pitot-tube would read as a positive airspeed x>0 when the aircraft is stationary) is critical info to making any reasoned judgments about these stunts.
Too much flap on take off will increase the drag more than it will lift. These high aircraft are already in ground effect when they take off, that coupled with the large airfoil is what makes them STOL.
Be sure to check out the other scenes shot on the same day. I sure spent lots of time faking all these takeoff videos at the short field takeoff contest in Valdez, Alaska.
