@RicRam76 Glad you like it, man! Check my channel, though--I think you'll change your mind about the metalcore part when you hear the vocal preview. There's no screaming/yelling. Only growling and singing. Maybe something like "modern" melodic death metal. Thanks for commenting!
@blackened138 that would make it metalcore lol... if you have clean vocals in this it will sound like as i lay dying... but alot better and nto as generic... im glad you guys dont play breakdowns.
@RicRam76 Ever listened to Scar Symmetry? Those clean vocals (AND harsh vocals) sound nothing like AILD. The main difference between metalcore and At the Gates - Slaughter of the Soul & much of Dark Tranquillity-Swedish-style melodeath (characterized by the alternating palm mutes and unmuted notes on the low strings), is the vocal style. Death growls come from death metal.
@RicRam76 (continued) When you add catchier riffs, and even NWOBHM-style melodies and harmonies bands like (old) In Flames use frequently, to the death growls, it becomes melodic death metal. In Deadtide, I use death growls/grunts/what have you. Just because there's singing, doesn't mean it's metalcore. Many modern melodeath bands incorporate singing into their music.
@RicRam76 (continued) Metalcore is a fusion genre between metal and hardcore. It took that Swedish melodeath riffing style, and adopted the hardcore vocal style of screaming and yelling, and then later came to incorporate more singing as well. I know these things because of exposure & experience; I've done pretty much all these different vocal styles throughout the years because I listen to punk, old-school hardcore, and all types of metal and rock.
@RicRam76 (continued) I understand that it gets tricky when just calling it melodic death metal because different styles have been blurred together so much, but until there's a more contemporary description, we need something to tell new potential listeners so they can have a better idea of what style of metal we play. I can promise you, we're in no way a metalcore band, haha.
@RicRam76 (continued) When you hear our EP (coming very soon), you'll see what I'm talking about. The guitar tone & production sound on our EP are galaxies away from this crappy recording. That, along with the synth that isn't here, will change the way you perceive this. You'll just have to trust me on that. And yeah, no breakdowns--we just like heavy riffage!
@RicRam76 Had I known I was going to write an essay on music history, I probably would have just messaged you. The ADHD med I take is known to have that effect. \m/
@Hardrive100 It's not just you! I was in a band in high school that had no bass player. We just said forget it after a while of not being able to find one.
Seems like everyone wants to play guitar. You can still play bass and be a badass...
just an idea for you to try,you say that there is double bass but the camera didnt pick it up. i have a point and shoot and it wouldnt pick up the kick drums at all from the front,so i started recording from behind and works pretty good with my point and shoot but is slightly out of sync, so i tried a sony digital8 camera, has crisp cymbals and in sync but a lil distorted and washed out color, and we just found a vocalist,so if you can make room, try recording from behind the drums!
@dabest70 Hey, man. Sorry it took so long for me to respond. I must have missed your comment when you first posted it.
Yeah, we used a point-and-shoot, too. That's good to know. We'll give that a try next time. Sounds like it would work better based on the positioning of everything and the way sound travels. It's alright if it's out of sync--nothing a little editing can't fix. Always better than not being able to get decent-enough sound quality in the first place! Thanks for the advice, man!
@toddskaterguy Yeah, man! And when you do find one, they either don't play metal, or are just too flaky and you can never get a hold of em! What's with that?
@Fraser387 Hey, Fraser... our name is Deadtide. You can find more of our material on my YouTube channel and on ChromeCelica00's YouTube channel. We're also on Myspace, Facebook, & Twitter.
@anthonyisemo Sometimes we need to hear outside opinions on things, you know? It's so hard to look at your own work or performance objectively. Definitely mention it anyway in a constructive criticism kind of way!
@Fraser387 Thanks, Fraser! We're working super-hard on recording our EP right now so you can buy it!!! Like us on facebook[DOT]com / deadtide for news & updates!
@MartyHITD Trying! We're working out asses off after our regular jobs to get our shit finished for you guys! Definitely check out my band, Deadtide, though. If you go to my channel page and find my latest video, "Deadtide - Anthem of the Insomniac Vocal Preview," you can hear a piece of one of our songs and you can get the links to our social pages in the video's description! Enjoy, and thank you!
Thanks, man. This was written by ChromeCelica00. Our drummer uses his kick all the time, this camera just doesn't pick up low-end sounds too well. If you listen closely, you can hear it.
A close friend just joined as our bassist! Our band name is Deadtide. We're on Facebook, MySpace, and Twitter, too, if you'd like to give us a listen!
MySpace is the best place right now to hear our recordings! Sorry, man! Try searching the Internet to fix your computer's inability to load MySpace properly
We're from the NY/NJ area. A friend just joined as a bassist actually, but I really appreciate the offer. Have you tried bandmix.com or any other related sites to locate musicians near you?
It's where he feels comfortable playing it. You're right--it does look weird live, but then again it's more important that he feels comfortable. It's definitely something we'll work on at practice. I know... I was the only one really getting into it at that show. I love going nuts live, but they were just kinda nervous since they hadn't played in a while. Thanks for the constructive criticism, man... it's definitely something I'll mention at practice to improve upon.
A lot of practice. Coming up with stuff that doesn't sound just like someone elses takes a while. As you do more and more writing, it comes more naturally and you also usually develop your own sound (definitely tone-wise, but also style-wise... but that varies more cause it depends how much harder you work to not sound like other bands).
You should learn the work of a few of your favorite bands, build off of that, and eventually evolve into something that sounds less like them.
Also, remember to NEVER steal the work of others. Even if my subconscious gives me a lyric or riff that already exists (which will probably happen to you every now and then, too) and I've already written the song, I never think twice about scrapping it or changing it til it's nothing like what it was before.
boring, u guys need to get into it, i've played in fuck loads of bands, no-one likes bands that just stand there, n this sounds like every other band out there, get creative
They wanted to get the recording perfect and there was no room in the attic for them to move anyway.
I've got material in my head and written down that is more than creative. The problem is finding the time to produce, finish, and record all of it. Unfortunately it's gonna be a while before that happens.
You're right, though. I want them to get into it when we play live. I'll bother them about it tomorrow at practice.
Maybe so, but not every song we're going to write is going to be groundbreaking... maybe none will ever be. This song was actually meant to be straightforward, musically and lyrically.
A lot of the other stuff that we have in the works is experimental and we're looking to do things we've never heard before, while at the same time producing metal that we love. We grow as musicians every day, just give us time.
At least you think it sounds good, though. Thanks.
It's hard when you gotta start looking for jobs and work for a living. I'm not in this video but my drummer and I always had really long hair, but had to cut it a lot shorter cause we have to interview for internships. Sucks, but that's life. Really happy to hear you like the music, though! We're writing right now so there's a lot more metal and demo tracks on the way within the next few months!
@XDa7x4lifeXD --> We should be launching one really soon... I just shot us so we have professional band pics now. Keep an eye out... we'll probably announce the launch!
DEADTIDE'S MySpace is up! I'm trying to fix our band pics, which I shot with my Nikon D80 in high quality, so disregard all the temporary photos. Myspace destroys high quality photos. Please add us, even though our page is under heavy construction! myspaceDOTcom/deadtide
i am only a beginner at gutiar anfd i can almost play the same music you guys play. very good job. i have only 1 year of experience of playing but people say i sound liek a 4 year guitarist
Nice, man. Keep practicing and one of these days you will be able to play some of this stuff. The soloing will take a while, though, unless all you're learning is solos... which would be pretty weird haha.
Everything's conceived except for the clean vocals during the chorus... I'm not used to writing cleans in that time signature, so it's been a hassle haha... they're not completely finished yet... only partially
Thanks, man... I wish. Tell Chrome to write some full compositions... I'm ready to write lyrics, I just need more material to work with, and we need to write more.
We would if we don't live where we live and if didn't go to school where we go/went. This is the most horrible area to find metal musicians. In high school, I never had a problem assembling a band.
I can't take credit for it since I didn't do vocals in this vid. Chromecelica00 wrote the guitar parts. Sick to hear, though... we want to build off a traditional melodeath sound to establish a foundation, but then put our own twist on it and try to bring out something different and experiment with new things. Originality ( at least as much as possible... since so much has already been done before) is very important... so thanks!
I wanna do a sample recording to the audio or something... I'm sick of waiting around... but I'm not sure if it's worth the time and effort because of the audio quality... ya know? Actually, I kinda wanna do it anyway so I can try out recording vocals with my toneport since I still haven't gotten to and I've had it for like 7 or 8 months. I'll try to get that done soon so you and everyone else can get an idea of how it would sound.
it was better than the other camera we tried with first... you could barely hear anything. this is just a preview anyway for everyone to see how stuff's coming along.
Did you hit high quality? It does make a bit of a difference. And you can't expect much from a little digital camera. But yeah as Blackened138 said this is WAY better than the other camera we used...it was horrible.
i like it.... its melodic death metal with a mainstream metalcore sound to it...

Don't you have bassist in your band?
helsinginiholla 2 years ago
We would if we don't live where we live and if didn't go to school where we go/went. This is the most horrible area to find metal musicians. In high school, I never had a problem assembling a band.

ilrs 2 years ago
I always do cause I'm really protective of my hearing... I tell them they should, but not everyone always wears them haha
blackened138 2 years ago
Oh damn..haha
ChromeCelica00 2 years ago
I can't take credit for it since I didn't do vocals in this vid. Chromecelica00 wrote the guitar parts. Sick to hear, though... we want to build off a traditional melodeath sound to establish a foundation, but then put our own twist on it and try to bring out something different and experiment with new things. Originality ( at least as much as possible... since so much has already been done before) is very important... so thanks!
blackened138 2 years ago
Well where do you live? haha
ChromeCelica00 2 years ago
fucking amazing. can't wait to hear the vox, mike!
timmah1231 2 years ago
Hopefully you'll hear them soon, man.
I'll try to get that done soon so you and everyone else can get an idea of how it would sound.

jeff05989 2 years ago 3
ape man will be doing vocals soon!
it was almost first try... but matt's (the drummer) stick flew out of his hand
blackened138 2 years ago
Haha I was first. Too bad the videos sound is crappy, I really dont hear much else than the drums...
B1oodraven 2 years ago
it was better than the other camera we tried with first... you could barely hear anything. this is just a preview anyway for everyone to see how stuff's coming along.
blackened138 2 years ago
Did you hit high quality? It does make a bit of a difference. And you can't expect much from a little digital camera. But yeah as Blackened138 said this is WAY better than the other camera we used...it was horrible.
