Finally bought this LP titled "Gamma II" at my local flea market along with "Gamma I" for $1.00 !! Rare to find and to be in clean unscratched prstine condition. Love these classic Rock and Roll LPs that only vinyl can deliver !! Long live Gamma with Ronnie Montrose and Davey Pattison at the helm. No other song on Earth defines rock and roll best than this classic anthem. Strong chords and guitar riff with electrifying vocals fit for the Gods. Will contiue to play this track when I'm 100 .
One of my all time-ALL TIME favorite songs. The singer later sang for Robin Trower, another genius. Man, thanks for sharing. Is this available on CD?
That 1st Montrose album is still one of my very favorites. I wore out probably 4 copies of that sucker during the 70s! Not a "skipper" song on the disk.
Damn I love this song...gonna be a long night listening...thanks Brother.
I still have all my records from my teens including Gamma 1,2,3 and 4, I'll never sell them. They are all sealed and have been stored for over 30 years. Thanks for the upload.
SERIOUSLY! There is more taste, melody and class in that solo than in all the recorded works of Satriani/Vai/Petrucci combined!!! Ronnie is hands down the most under-rated guitarist of all time. I have been trying to nail that solo since high-school! Almost have it lol :) It's a shame he dissapeared off the radar. His Website is down and was just about to tour with a new cast of players doing all of his non-instrumental stuff in his career and some new stuff. Come back Ronnie! We need you!!! :-)
And don't forget Davey Pattison. By far some of the best vocals. His work with Robin Trower was also excellent. He is also very under-rated. Great music never gets old.
James Dewar, the original lead singer for Robin Trower died in April, 2002. Davi Pattison is singing this fine tune with Gamma. Mr.Partttison s the original singer from day one. Mr.Pattison is currently the lead singer on tour with Robin Trower, replacing the late James Dewar.
This is a twin made in Heaven with identical vocal range and fire. Mr.Pattison does a fine
rendition of earlier and current Robin Trower
hits live in concert. I've also enjoyed Mr.Pattison with RM & Gamma.
This singer went on to join Robin Trower in the mid 80s. Still with him. Sounds just like the original Trower singer, James Dewar. I saw a story than Ronnie Montrose wanted James Dewar as his singer for Gammma but James turned him down and instead recommended Davey Pattison. Said he "sounded just like me". So true...
This second LP called "Gamma 2" with this excellent track is very hard to find. It is the album cover with the shark on a green lawn. In used record stores it is impossible to find - even on Ebay. I understand this LP is as good as the first LP "Gamma 1" which I've bought many times over by being played to death over and over and scratched all
over until the LP is worn down to bare vinyl.
I will find it somewhere if it kills me. Great band and great track worth dying for !!
True rock and roll is 50 times better than the shit this day and age has to offer. Im 14 and i prefer true rock and roll! Has anybody got the tab for this song because i cant find it anywhere! Thanks for posting the vid!
Saw Davey Pattison last night, singing with Robin Trower. He was pretty damn good for an old guy, but he is spectacular with his work here. Still one of my faves.
Incredible soundtrack with splendid vocals and guitar work. It is a rock anthem that defies momentum - it puts you in a mood that alters life itself. The feeling of perpetual
state of confusion of solid rock and rythem that moves you. This song will always be one
of my all-time classic greats with Ronnie
and Davi at the helm. Although I've never had this LP, I can't see how it slipped pass me all these years. I will buy it on Ebay soon !!
Great band, saw them at the Youngstown Agora. I've got their first two Lp's on disc.Ronnie M. has always been a talent, from the Edgar Winter days through his solo stuff
Oops, yes, Davey Pattison on vocals. Original lead singer of Gamma. Excellent vocals, excellent band with a tight smooth sound. Clean and clear, with the right mix at all of the right places. Wonderful track indeed !!
heh..could you even call it music..more like dumbed-down soul-less, disposable PAP for the mindless masses. this song is timeless and the guitar work out of this world. it's like going to another dimension & back
I agree, you are absolutely right.Good to hear that I am not the only one in this world , who like.s elite music, and Ronnie Montrose is the best guitar player , besides Leslie West, in this world....
thanks for posting this. haven't heard this song is sooooooo long. i remember seeing them in 1982. in Oakland, day on the green show. with Journey, they were great.
Was lucky enough to see Gamma in Manchester UK supported by Praying Mantis. They rocked!! Also saw Ronnie solo 2 years ago in Holland. He played all the Montrose classics and brought the house down. Good post - Cheers dude!!
Another musical gem from 1980, my hard rock years. I loved this song back then, I still do now. Great guitar solo. I had a hell of af a job to find this song a few years back. Couldn't believe there was a video uploaded here. Never seen it before. Thanks Taxirock for bringing back some great memories...
I bought this Gamma album too! {on CD..heh} after hearing this time-encompassing gem of a wonderful piece of MUSIC. Montrose rocks. I must've played this 5001x in the car stereo blazin' away :-)-~
Gamma did four albums and five if you count a best of. Gamma 4 barely received any pub and no radio play but was very good. Voyager was on their 2nd album and don't forget that Danny Carmassi (drummer from Montrose) is also on this tune. It definitely has a Montrose feel. Some of Ronnie's best work was here.
Been awhile since I've heard Ronnie Montrose in this band! The first two Montrose lps with "Sam" Hagar on vocals are classics. Thanks for the comment on Tommy Bolin's Poast Toastee vid. (We even have some subscribers in common. Check out my channel!)

I got to meet Ronnie and shake his hand when my buddy's band, Teaser opened for them at The Catalyst in Santa Cruz back in the late
80's. What an amazing guitarist and a really nice guy! I wish he was still putting music out, I'd buy it!

I saw Gamma in S.F. in 1980 at the Embarcadero
Plaza. Gamma played for free! We cut school in Redwood City that day. It was a good one.
Magical Song...Also saw Ronnie in Las Vegas in 2000 at the Texas Station...all songs he played were instrumentals including
Rock Candy.

One of the best classic songs of the 80s. A true classic that just screams perfection.
jadesystem 3 years ago 2
Agreed, a true classic impossible to overrate. But doesn't it sound much more like a 70s tune? Of course, it was during the cusp I guess...
