you know for the eSata/usb plug? have you tried charging stuff in it while the laptop is off? its advertised as having powershare so you should be able to charge like an ipod/iphone while the lappy is off
Great insightful video. I am considering getting one of these laptops. I have read some negative reviews and was wondering
does the bios upgrade actually fix the heat issue since the screen still blocks the exhaust?
also are fingerprints on the gloss really noticeable? These are my two major concerns in buying the xps studio over the m1330. Any insight would help, thanks so much.
Yes, I am wondering the same thing, I have read the same articles and was also wondering if the bios actually worked on the heating problem. Im in college and i currently have an inspiron E1505 which is so heavy,, almost 7 pounds. I wanted this laptop because its light weight,, you can get more than 4 gigs of ram,, and you can get a 2.66 processor which is a plus for me because i am a computer science major and running huge programs in java and c++ is time consuming.
Also i heard that the battery life it not that great with the 6 cell,, I heard it is great with the 9 cell which sticks out the back,, i dont really have a problem with this as long as it can still fit in the case.. Someone please tell me if the bios updates actually works for the heat,, if so this will definitely be in hands..
BIOS A05 (and after) increased how often the fan is on. IMO heat really isn't much of an issue so long as not doing resource demanding tasks on your lap. Heat output significantly rises with the enabling of the optional 9200M GS though internal temperatures remain fine.
Hey, i have a question for you. The only outstanding issue seems to be heat for this laptop, so my question is wether or not Speedfan or a similar application works with this laptop? does it fix the issue?
BIOS update A06 fixed heat problems for most users who experienced them. I'm still on A05 right now and I'm idling at 57 degrees Celsius with only the 9400M G enabled on Linux. I managed to get it up to 70 degrees Celsius after enabling more plugins on Compiz Fusion and intentionally trying to increase load on the GPU though I didn't successfully max it out (I'll try again later). From what I've heard, the trade off from switching to A06 from A05 is increased fan noise.
"that's not really a fix when you increase the fan idle speed"
There isn't any a fix when there isn't any problem XD. Heat is rather subjective until it gets to the point where functionality is damaged. For me the laptop has been completely usable on A05/A06/A07 with heat only becoming an issue when High Performance/Hybrid SLI is enabled. I should check to see if my idle temps are any lower on A06 as I haven't noticed much of a difference externally.
was wondering since the heat goes up the screen when open fully, in the long run wouldn't discoloration occur? and also is the system more prone to overheat? I really like this notebook but it's the heat I'm worried about
there was someone that had that happen...yellowing across the bottom, mostly on the left..heat given as cause...mine seems uneffected. I am still very satisfied, and concerned...I plan to keep it well vented and watch internal temps (internal temps are staying in the 50s...pretty good, I think)
would you recommend to purchase this studio xps 13 for $100 more rather than the M1330? i have a few more months (need it aug 2009) so i'm lookin around and the studio xps really caught my eye. i'm just wondering when windows 7 will be released and if i should just hold off for now. help!
I would recommend you the 1340 after having both of them. And I also recomend you to buy it at Dell Outlet store. I got one with a P9600 core2duo, 4gb ram, 256 video, 500 GB hard drive, LED screen. Just $820, very nice price!
the exhaust feels like a hi heat lowspeed hair dryer, and the plastic around the exhaust is too hot to touch (may burn) but, my temps on my dual core stays normal..60C right now
how has this become ACCEPTABLE? if an exposed part of a laptop reaches temperatures TOO HOT TO TOUCH, it shouldn't be sold. that's just ridiculous. what a piece of shit.
The 9 cell battery is totally worth the money. I have a studio 17 not the xps so it may be slightly different. It does have the incline, once again, i dont know if it would for the xps, so your computer will actually be able to "breathe." Your computer should have the sim card slot. Take the battery out and see if it's hidden behind the battery. My phone carrier doesn't have sim cards, so i dont know how good it works. Good videos.
The 9 cell will do you good. One charge will last you about 6 to 7 hours. Of course it builds up a memory, after a while it will get about 5 hours on a charge. It's still a lot better then the battery you have now.
you typing in the dark cause its hard to watch porn in the light huh?

Yea but I bet it gets as hot as a brick oven when running Steam. I couldn't imagine running MW2 or L4D2 on a 256mb card.

Well I have this system, just with hard drive.
And at some settings most games are ok.
I was just playing the Arkham Asylum demo pretty well.
I was doing about medium resolution and lower settings, but it was ok.
Still, on a 13.3 inch screen, you really don't want to play through a whole game like that.
The only game I played through on mine was Dead Space.
sxps 16 has some better options
