Why don't they ever follow the storyline from the comics? The Marvel comic book series created by Larry Hama was the original and best version of G.I Joe, and nothing else has ever come close. @jason27thompson No, this isn't a prequel. First, Storm Shadow isn't Snake Eyes brother because Snake Eyes is white, not Japanese. Storm Shadow was mortally wounded in the first film, but didn't die. And second, Duke is in this movie, but it appears that he gets killed at the beginning.

@jason27thompson It's a sequel. The one thing I think they've improved so far is the realism. The Joes now have real guns, "Cobra" has been established. One complaint I have is that it still doesn't follow Larry Hamma's comics, I read "Classic G.I. Joe" vol.1, it kicks ass.

Christopher Nolan's Batman films take their cues almost exclusively from the comics and graphic novels, such as Batman: Year One and The Long Halloween. Now I'll go into why Hasbro disrespects Snake Eyes.

If observe the differences between the two, nearly every divergence from the comics relolves around Snake Eyes. In the comics, Hawk is team leader and Snake Eyes is Scarlett's only love interest. In the cartoons, Duke was created due Hawk's politically sensitive codename, and Scarlett was implied to be Duke's love interest, with Snake Eyes as a mere side character. Allow me to continue......

In the comics, Snake Eyes and Stalker are old Army buddies. In the movies, Stalker is gone, Ripcord becomes a black character, and he and Duke are made out to be BFF's. In the comics, the Baroness blames Snake Eyes for her brother's death and vows vengeance on him; in the movies, the Baroness blames Duke instead.

The excuse that his muteness makes it too difficult is BS.

In the comics, Snake Eyes face and vocal chords are damaged saving Scarlett's life in a helicopter accident; in the movies, he takes a vow of silence......right.

But they continually fail to inderstand why their most popular character became the most popular character in the first place. Story is what counts, not plastic toys, and Hama CREATED G.I. Joe.

Hama adapted his 'Fury Force' storyline to G.I. Joe, as well as creating the names and filecards for all of the action figures. The Sunbow cartoon came a year later, and according to Marvel comics writer Jim Shooter, Sunbow "did not create or contribute anything." They just turned Hama's storyline inside out.
