  • E' davvero un grande virtuoso, non vedo l'ora di ascoltarlo dal vivo al concerto per Vidas a Milano il 12 febbraio!

  • This is a very great performance. I have no luck on the violin myself, couldn't get anywhere on the vibrato.Beethoven's Hammerklavier is more appropriate for me !

  • Portentoso...Diabólica su facilidad técnica! Grande Shlomo!!!

  • In my opinion, the best concert I've ever heared. The poor sound of the non played "Canone" has no influance of the preciose fingertechnic and the intonation.

All in all Shlomo counted to the best violinists alive in this century!

  • great poetry at 2:50

  • Hats off gentlemen! A genius playing a genius composer.

  • 3:23 que viola roja tan chingona

  • double stop harmonics!!?? get te fuck out!!!

  • Beautiful of course. Although I love Massimo Quarta interpreation, Shlomo here, I am mesmerized. Outstanding. I need a good Hi-Fi upgrade on my PC. :)

  • this is whats call harmonics

  • I liked very much his relaxed approach and interpretative freedom. Most fiddlers who play this concert seem daunted and worried about not making mistakes. Shlomo plays it on a slower pace and looks very calm and confident all the way. He clearly enjoys what he is doing.

What I didn't like was his volume. Playing the "Cannone" he should play louder. I acknowledge that violin recordings are not the same as alive, but I've heard other versions with a more loud and brilliant sound.

  • Favorite vioiln concerto.....Only when Shlomo plays it :D

  • Believe it or not, even Heifetz was a distance away from Mintz in handling those awesome staccato bowings!

  • 5:35 he didnt dare do harmonics lol...harmonics are so hard to clean..

  • Those harmonics are killer anyone who can pull that off deserves my respect and others.

  • @violin144000 agreed. I am so terribly sloppy with the doubles that I had to divide those up in singles.

  • I bet even God envies his talents

  • Superb. What a talent!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This is good ofcourse, but nobody will ever come near the performance of this concerto by Philip Hirschhorn !

  • @SergRach1 absolutely.

  • @belial0311 wtf's your problem pendejo?

  • I once compared shlomo to perlman with paganini 24 caprices that I slowed down to a quater speed and Shlomo was cleaner on each note and less sloppy then perlman by far. He is an amazing player But I do miss his long hair when he was younger, the Gene Wilder from young frankenstein hair " we all have to behave normally" as the tie comes apart.

  • @baronsting you need to slowdown to understand whho is better?anyway you are righ shlomo's 24 are better

  • He has such a relaxed demeanour ... extraordinary ability and performance.

  • love his stance.

  • nah nah nah... he resembles Victor Garber, from ALIAS. nonetheless, I idolize this man. Schlomo, I hope you live one hundred years.

  • @karatekatalog

Even if he lives one hundred years, he won't perform after his seventies.

  • @fanjiatia :( there's no hope x_x

  • He looks a little bit like George Bush, somehow.

  • From 5:33 there are 2 passages which I thought were meant to be played in harmonics. I don't see why he can't do it, it's not too hard (relatively) and I think it can sound very nice. But anyway, I thought it was the right way to do so (either Paganini wrote it as harmonics, or at any rate it is normal practice)

  • Wow. Awesome. Thanks for posting this. Is Shlomo changing the tempo periodically or is that the conductor? I don't mean randomly changing it, but who makes the artistic decision regarding tempo, pauses, etc. in a concerto? Again, thanks for posting this!

  • man..he's so goood..lol...not to make any comparison but i really wish heifetz had recorded this concerto or performed it

  • brraaaavisssssimoooo!! molto benne...

  • ooooooooo, cuando hace el staccato porque levanta el violin?????,debe ser por el peso,o gravedad o una pilleria???

  • does anyone know the name of the female flautist?

  • Certainly, he is one of the best violinists of all of the times

  • Thank you for posting this beautiful music.

    --------Ellen

  • Simply beautiful! :D

  • Mintz is my favorite musician such an amazing violinist

  • Wonderful

  • he somewhat raises the violin up when he does the staccato at 3:03 and at 8:07 well just something a saw.............

  • He's cueing the orchestra to come in.

  • This violin is a Monster at the Hall!!!!

  • Paganini must have had this thing with the G-string. Up high like that make him have to pull the string more. Making it hard to keep a smooth bowing and mantain a decent tone. Paganini you little monster you.

  • muito bom

  • I like gatto more!

    it was like...cleaner.

but I do like Shlomo MIntz version!

  • He is just very good...

  • great work! BRAVO!

  • OMG the harmonics

  • very clean note but i dont like his way to play it

  • Shlomo you are the best !

    ;-)

  • Simply wonderful and such a hard piece too!

  • You guys have no idea of what you're talking about!!! Mintz is awesome!!! He's one hell of an artist!

  • oh hell yes hes the next paganini

  • He did a great job for someone that isn't playing in his own violin.

  • Goodness, this is beautiful. Just watching Mintz play is something. Everything is so light and easy, and there's no tension whatsoever. He makes everything seem so easy. Haha, I'm inspired.

  • it impossible?the violino "cannone"of maestro paganini guarneri del gesu' is custodite in museo paganini genoa italy come e' possibile?incredible

  • possible possible. it was lended to Mintz, the trip of Cannon to Califirnia cost just under 10 million USD. Security + insurance + private plane.

  • in the last movement mintz dont play the ritornello pizzicato whit left hand really?misterious

  • The left pizzizato is not written by Paganini in the finale recapitulation. Accardo improvised it.

  • great!!

  • he sure did . do u think it sound good

  • sorry, solo the maestro accardo play the pizzicato left hand incredible,is improvisation o original partiture?

  • Il Canon has been lent several times, flown on a private plane with 10 armed guards at all times. 2 Americans that I know of fairly recently who were lent this violin were Regina Carter and gee, can't think of the guys name! The guards stay with it at all times. A complete security check is done on the artist. They are very careful and it is much appreciated that Il Canon is shared with the world so that all can hear. Once a month it is taken out and played briefly in Italy.

  • I bet that instrument has seen more notes than any other instrument in history.

  • On special occasions they lend Paganini's Cannon violin to contemporary performance. This time Cannon travelled to California when they lent it to Mintz, you can see that the little white thing at the top of the scroll. Usually this thing is black, but Paganini's Cannon has this thing is white.

  • the color of the nut of the instrument doesnt necesarily mean anything its just up to the luthier what color he/she wants it.

  • but this white nut is what on paganini's cannon viloin, and i read in wikipedia that cannon was lended to mintz for a concert in califirnia, so i came to the conclusion, it must be the exact performance.

  • Is it me or does the open A string sound really bad, like the soundpost is wedged in too tight or something?

  • Example? What time?

  • That violin has not been taken out and played much..your are exactly right. It has places where it almost hits a nasal sound simply because it stays locked up all the time and needs to be played hard for a long time

  • Why is this movement longer than I'm used to, does anyone know? There's a whole section I don't recognize starting at 5:11.

I can't believe that's Paganini's violin! That is so awesome. I'd love to have the honor of playing it.

  • I have this section in my notes but I don't play it, I dont think Paganini wrote that cause it sounds so trashy... kogan for example doesn't play this section too.

  • apparently, kogan does play that part, In fact, mintz skips a place where the orchestra plays the main theme in Tutti

  • his price 3.7 billion.

  • i love mintz's version of 24 caprices but i don't like his interpretation of this concerto but i respect to your opinion.

  • really incredible but not my preferred recording... there are a lot of dirty parts, accardo recording is much better and perlman recording is just perfect

  • I think Mintz's is so much better than Accardo.

  • you are right

  • This was live with no opportunity to stop and cut-plus the fact that he was playing on a strange violin that was way over sized for him. Personally, I can't just pick up somebody's elses instrument and "knowd" it, the harmonics vary just a smidge and you have to make friends with violins. He clearly put a lot passion into this performance and there is fire in it. While there are a couple of performers I prefer this was really a great performance and I wouldn't call parts "dirty"

  • i think accardo's interpretation of paganini concerto is so much better than mintz....what was that noise at 1:52 ???

  • accardo sucks

  • that's just the sound you get when you barely miss double false harmonics. eh, it happens. no biggie.

  • just a duff harmonic that fiddle is supposed to be very difficult to tame probably due to the fact that it is rarely lent to soloists

  • And plus it is GIGANTIC with a huge fingerboard..imagine trying to find harmonics on it after you are used to your own violin! It is made for a person with a huge hand-he has small hands.

  • Its a wrong note...all professionals play wrong notes live.

  • 1.mov. please please...

  • it doesnt get any better than this
