  • its like an UFO on ice

  • that is just annoying. if you cant follow the black thing on white ice, you shouldnt be watching hockey

  • No one show this to TV execs. with 3DTV , HD and graphics tech as it is, we can't imagine what they might look to do.

  • Owen Nolan what a beast. My all time fav player.

  • the glowing puck was created for the american viewers, I guess cause their a little slow.

  • @237whpH2Bhatch And dictionaries were created for people like yourself, who can't distinguish "their" from "they're"!

  • @237whpH2Bhatch And Canada is that drunk guy at the party dancing around naked with a lampshade on his head who doesn't realize that everybody is laughing at him, not with him.

  • I thought the glow puck actually glowed back in the day haha. Wanted one so bad.

  • i cant see the puck with the glow around it, thats weird, i can see it better without the glow.

  • I loved the glow puck. I never understood why they got rid of it.

  • In the split seconds that I would lose the puck on the screen (it happens to everyone from time to time), I just look where all the players are looking. It takes about a second. No stupid gimmicks.

    Fox Sports sucks anyway,

  • It was a travesty? Maybe to the typical Canadian hockey snob it was a travesty, that or you're a 12yr old that's grown up in the HD era. and has never watched hockey on a traditional tv set. Other than that.. tell me again, why the glow puck sucked so bad?

  • I grew up watching hockey on a traditional set, and its pretty fucking easy to follow the play. If I wanted my puck to look that I'd play Wayne Gretzky's 3D hockey. Players hated it, true hockey fans hated it, and its unbelievably stupid. Thats why...

  • Glowing puck ha! the NHL cares too much about what people think.

Owen Nolan come back to T.O.!!

  • I LOVE Owen Nolan :-) great hockey player! and best smile too, lol.

  • I'm so glad I'm not the only one who remembers the glowing puck. The good ol' days LOL

  • the funny thing is they stopped the glowing pucks then fox stopped hockey in general because like the glowing pucks hockey is a joke and people just laugh at it

  • American hockey announcers fucking blow !

    man these guys suck !

  • Oh man I blocked the glowing puck out of my brain forever... And now it's back

  • Man I forgot about that stupid puck track thing, it was a repressed memory, now its back

  • @jesusranch34 The NHL trying to get americans to watch. Yup, a glowing puck, that would do it. lol

  • @dave1927p jesus you're suck a fucking asshole! americans do watch hockey you stupid snobby piece of shit. learn to make some fucking logical thought for yourself instead of listening to your stupid fucking inbred family bitch about another country you twat

  • @destructopoo I didn't say they don't. I said a majority of them don't compared to other major sports don't care about hockey. It's true, if you believe to see it or not. Logical Sense? Well, i can say one of us is, and it certainly isn't you, pal.

  • it's hat night.

  • ughh the dreaded Fox Trax pucks

  • i was there. one of my fav sports memories ever. to see him just point hasek down, that took some balls.

and by the way. the glowing puck was the worst idea ever.

  • Nolan would've won the Rocket Richard in his prime, but he had no teammates. He's a great player, one of the best of his time.

  • The glowing puck was fucking stupid. America turned the sport into a joke and were the butt end of jokes after that disastrous experiment. Thank God that didn't last.

  • he should have been MVP of that game!!! HE WAS HOSED!

  • It's a decent sentiment until you bring in nationality/country of origin.

Which is weird, cause Rupert Murdoch is an Australian.

  • what a bad ass

  • When Nolan was in his prime he was actually pretty good and quite perfect teamplayer.

skills, sense, shot, physical play and his fightning ability

  • forever a SJ Shark and the best Sharks Captain ever

  • You know, I have no problem following the puck, but I don't have a problem with the glowing thing at all. It's not too distracting. I get the feeling the whole glow hate thing is just an elitist attitude.

  • @Freecell82 It's a black puck on white ice, it wasn't too hard to follow the damn thing anyways.

  • Highlighting the puck is ultimately unnecessary after you've seen a few games. Once you've learned the general body language of players it really becomes quite easy to follow.

  • true but im sure it helps a great deal for people just getting into the game .. however traditionalists would never allow it

  • Freaking Awesome!

  • Nolan is Fantastic!!

  • wow.. look at how intelligent you are making your country sound LOL... wow lamer dude.. if you're going to stand up for your country then dont act the same way? lmao..

  • wow your really immature

  • EPIC!

  • Americans are stupid because they need a tail at the end of the puck to see it...........retarards!

  • fuck you bitch.......has nothing to do with americans....you racist bitch...

  • Eye sight is in no way related to intelligence so... you're "retararded" yourself.

  • smart comment dumbass

  • it's the only way the casual fan can follow the game....not being able to see the puck is equivalent to not being able to see the ball in a basketball game. it's pretty dreadful to watch on tv. the nhl's ratings are dropping. this years finals are some of the lowest ratings since the strike. if their marketing was decent they would bring this puck back. the finals this year are on VERSUS....come on people...i just watched beach volleyball on espn2......

  • Youre exactly right. The casual America sports fan has a hard time following the puck. I think the league should think about bring it back, but with more refined look. No red comet tails and better tracking. But youre wrong about the ratings on this years finals (2009). The ratings are actually quite good (for hockey). Game 3 of the Stanley Cup finals has earned the series' highest cable television rating since 2002.

  • God, that puck is ugly

  • how can a puck be ugly?

  • The puck its self is fine. But the stupid tail they put on it was so un necessary and ugly.

  • sorry i thought u ment the puck itself is ugly

  • love nolan!!! i miss him on the sharks!

  • this was classic..

  • back when hockey was good...now it sucks. miss the old NHL

  • why does it suck now??

  • because gary bettmen screwed up the nhl

  • Some detail please on how Bettmen screwed up the NHL.

  • well he made it so anything a superstar does that is concitered illegal, they will get away with it..the refs are looking for the enforcers and bullies to make penalites and are ignoring what the superstars do..they focus so much on the players that get penalties that they wind up ignoring players like ovie, malkin, and crosby..ive seen so many cheap things from malkin that were never even called..the league does a bad job at evenly distributing penalties

  • And that's why Malkin has the second highest amount of penalty minutes in this years playoffs right? Obviously they don't call them on the superstars as you so put it. Keep spewing this random BS, though don't expect people to believe it.

  • well i wasn't really talking playoffs..and malkin is becoming fiesty and actually defending himself. im talking reg. season. well maybe not malkin but deffinatley crosby and ovechkin are babied by the league.

  • first, watch slap shot 2, you could connect gettman with the douche in that movie, then google gary bettman, and hit the second link, which is a website dedicated to why he sucks.

  • i was 10 years old and this blew me away.... fucking great. =)

  • one of my favorite NHL memory's

  • Love Owen Nolan! 37 &still kicking ass. :D

  • the only reason they made the puck glow was to boost ratings, fox's reasoning to why it would help boost ratings was to help people who couldn't follow the game. In the surveys they took before and after, the group of people who liked it the most by percentage is woman.....just pointing out stats and the reasoning behind it (I laugh at it because I couldn't stand the glow-the thing looked radioactive)

  • the glowing puck was great, i loved those all-star games... seemed like they scored 20 goals every time

  • i used to love the trail on the puck

i turned the option on in NHL 09

  • ahhh the old puck glow...I remember that back when I was like 7

  • It was so appropriate that the Hey song was played when a Shark scored for the West. Very classy.

  • glowing puck, that'll give ya epilepsy

  • briliant smile of nolan! could steal anyone's heart.

  • Now thats a power forward

    glowing puck suck tho

  • If Fox brings back NHL on FOX, they should discontinue the glowing puck.

  • the glowing puck is probably the reason fox doesnt have hockey now. lol

  • God, look at those jerseys.

  • GO SHARKS

  • Wow, they have used that same horn and song for a long time.

  • It's amazing that Nolan did this in front of his home crowd in San Jose. I still watch this with my jaw on the floor.

  • I am happy that the majority of Canadians are not ignorant like yourself. The American dollar has helped hockey exponentially and has grown it into what it is today.

  • Only because America has the money to buy whatever they want and ruin it. It's a Canadian sport. Canadian Hockey teams should branch off of the American Teams and have it's own thing like the CFL has done with the NFL.

  • then why dont they go do that... thats right because they wouldnt be able to. and its not just canada and america that plays hockey many other countries have theyre own leagues.

  • Right. Cause sports should only be played by and in the country that invented them. /sarcasm

And there were NHL teams in the United States long before you were even born. Why is it anymore your sport than it is to a long time fan in Detroit or Boston?

  • Read again. I didn't say it was.

I said Canadian teams should branch off from the American teams. Just like how Canada has the CFL, it should be like that for Hockey. Keep your hockey teams I don't care, but IMO, Canada should branch off from the American Teams.

  • I am Canadian and I've played hockey for most of my life.

Listen, the problem with hockey is not that America or any other country is involved. The problems are when they try to change the sport to appeal to the other countries. For example, a glowing puck on ice isn't hockey.

But it's wrong for us to want to play with ourselves. BTW: the NFL has tried many times to involve Canada but we reject them.

You see, the new rules (including the salary cap) was wrong. But the Americans suffer too.

  • Well that part I didn't know, the whole thing of the CFL declining, I take back what I said about that, I should have done my homework on it more.

  • A poster on the GameFAQS NHL Board recently said, "Hockey is too expensive for poor america and too white". As much as some people would like to get involved, most areas of the U.S.A. lack hockey facilities and equipment is too expensive. I live in New York City and the only rink where one can really play hockey is out of the way in Chelsea Piers. Don't be fooled by Rangers attendance. There is barely any interest in actually playing ice hockey. The sports of the NFL, NBA, and MLB are king.

  • I live in a rich community and no one wants to pay for having a hockey team in any of the schools in my town. We have a rink right by the school, too. No one is interested.

  • You obviously don't know much about the NHL. The original 6 teams in the NHL are comprised of four(4) American teams(Chicago, Boston, New York Rangers, and Detroit). It was never exclusive to Canada.

  • are you a fool. . . .canada their own league!!! that just doesn't make any sense. your an idiot

  • How? Tell me how it doesn't make any sense.

Also, use grammar, it makes you sound smarter.

  • Go Wild!

  • The glowing puck is FAR from being a bad idea, it was actually quite cool. I think the "comet" effect was just exaggerated, put a bit of a tail on that and maybe just may it a dark gray. Hockey games have a puck shadow, so I wouldn't mind something similar, make it stick to the ice, so we can relate the pucks height to the shadow.

  • I meant Hockey video games..

  • Maybe they should but a tail on baseballs. They are much more difficult to see than the black puck on white ice.

  • This game is ICE-HOCKEY not fucking video game!! If u dont see black puck in white ice go to hospital!

  • The FOX Puck, the greatest invention in the history of mankind. Bring it back!!!

  • That game took place in my hometown at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California. Go Sharks!

  • ok, glad they got rid of the glow puck, but the robots were awesome! someone should bring them back!

  • the robots were definitely sweet

  • Thank you for sending me this vid George! yes i found this vid after you first told me. yep def. got my memory refreshed, and Nolan is Awesome!:-) xxx

  • The glowing puck had to have been the dumbest idea in the history of sports coverage. They needed to make the puck more visible, cause a black puck on white ice, isn't visible enough? And with that dumb red tail when it was a slapshot? It's a puck, not a comet. Thank you FOX sports for being such a tool!

  • well sometimes the puck goes really fast and u cant keep track of it, the red glow mite be good

  • I think the glow puck is great for replays...but that's it

  • Ok bring back the color puck. That shit is the coolest thing ever.

  • They stopped using the glowing puck when they realized that hockey fans were laughing at them.

  • I liked the glowing puck

  • i was ther!

  • Is there something wrong with me because I kinda like that Foxtrax. Not all the time, but the first goal is pretty cool when I can really see where the puck goes during the shot. It would also be easier to see deflections etc. But the players had some complaints about the puck so yeah.. I wonder if it was possible to do something like that to a normal puck that they could show in replays (not slow-mo's though), I wouldn't mind.

  • True, until the Sharks win the cup, Gretzky's 801st career goal will be the most historic moment at the Tank.

  • people that grew up playing the game or old school fans really hated the foxtrax puck... it was a tool to attract new fans.

there is a reason why they don't use it anymore... =)

  • what is the reason.. I mean yes, if i had my choice, I can see a black puck on a white surface, and I understand the game of hockey pretty well, so we basially know where the puck is going ot be anyway, but what was the reason? was it just bceause it was odd? it was only on fox right, so really only the American fans would watch that. Did they not like it? isnt ESPN coming back on iwth NHL next year, they marketed the game well in teh states if you ask me.

  • ya..there is some speculation that ESPN and the NHL could come to an agreement.. I used to love watching it on ESPN and on FOX. But now the only way to watch it is to see it on Verses.. and that sucks

  • One of the biggest reasons it was kicked out was the circuits inside heated up the puck and made it bounce differently. The players hated it.

  • ohhh really.. man Crispy ive been looking for that answer for ages.. Thanks man. I always wondered if it was more than just an executive descision.

  • One of the most historic moments ever at the Tank. Right next to when Gretzky scored #801 to tie Gordie Howe.

  • man, that glow puck was fucking queer.

  • the glowing puck sucked and it was for losers who were new to the game...it looked like a EA Sports game out there

  • that was so awesome how he points

  • o yea luv that glowing puck nd it turns color depending on speed.

  • i actually like the glowing puck! come on OLN or should i say Versus, if ur gonna curse us to watching the nhl on your $hi77y channel, let us have the glowing puck.

  • Come on NHL, bring back the glowing puck!!!!

  • yea i know, i dont get how it was bad, it didnt hurt the viewing of hockey at all, infact it only enhances it, these stupid ass "die hard" hockey fans cant even understand its upside.

  • Hey, I'm a die hard hockey fan.... I wouldn't mind seeing it again.

  • wow! to me one of the greatest moments in hockey ever!! THATS entertainment for fans :D

  • bring back the glow puck!!!!

  • yeah i know, i dont see HOW it can be so bad, maybe they should get rid of the blue and red line feature but a glow on the puck doesnt harm at all.

  • This was part of it I imagine, per wiki:

Many players also disliked the way the Fox Puck bounced, and they were not available for practice due to the prohibitive costs.

  • I was at this game. It was the shit to see a hometown hero score a goal like that.

  • He was pointing because Hasek was unconscious that period he played in and had already stoned Nolan a couple times before. If I recall corectly, that was the only goal Hasek allowed on 20+ shots in that period.

  • ...I hope you know...your a moron.

  • why is that??

  • its accually 2nd and 3rd

  • its for the dumb americans who cant see a black puck on white ice.

  • YES I AGREE. CANADA RULES

  • I'm american, and I can see a puck on ice. As the Arrogant Worms put it:

The Yankees, they win da world cup.....Methink they cheat use glowing puck!

  • You are ignorant. it's for American's that couldn't give a shit about hockey. The "dumb Americans" that love and enjoy hockey (like myself) can find the black piece of rubber on a white surface well enough to know it was an attempt at ratings by FOX. Smart guy.

  • Yes, I was talking to you trent194. (Just thought I'd let it be known, just in case you were confused with all the dialogue).

  • GLOWING PUCK!!!!!!!!!! Sorry, just reliving my childhood.

  • it does glow when its behind the boards and no it should be on all the time, not just when its shot. and it was a cool idea but completely useless and catered to americans.

  • Glowing puck was just a gimmick by FOX, just like those retarded robots except they stop doing those later on like in 98 99ish.

  • glowing puck!!!!!!!!!! wooo jk

  • recchi got the mvp of the game, and nolan stole the show in front of his home fans at HP Pavilion

  • hold on a second... Guy Hebert was in an All Star game????? WTF?

  • Ahahah Paul Kariya was probably injured and know one else might have made it for the Mighty Ducks that year lol

  • The return of the GLOWING PUCK!~!~!~!

  • imagine if he pointed and miserbaly missed...

    that would be a shame

  • iv got the signed photos of owen at last, give me a shout lads!

  • i loved owen nolan still do tho he isnt as good .. He was on my fantasy team for years back in the day ! he helped me some weeks when needing goals ..

  • monsterdn41 thanks for saying that about owen, he and the rest of my family would like to say thanks,il try and make sure he gets to see ur video, all the best. george hanna n.ireland belfast!

  • um why did they show Owen Nolan's goal twice?

haha I liked Nolan's "calling the shot" on Hasek. Too bad Western Conference lost by 4 goals.
