So beautiful. I feel so fortunate to have seen him perform in a small late-night club in Vancouver BC around 1971-2. What monster talent. He chose a great song to cover. Kudos to Fred Neil.
like father like son why do the good always have to die young. jeff never made it past his dads death date . but he never wanted to die young , what a waste of talent a brilliant musician , what a voice range and also a brilliant guitarist. a passion for music in father and son. god bless them both rip tim and jeff buckley. biggs
This has to be one of the most beautiful and amazing and beautifully performed tunes ever! I find it incredibly good! To think about how long time ago it was recorded too makes it even more fantastic. Timeless music at it´s very best!!
I've heard so many people say over the years that Tim was so much better a singer than Jeff but for me, its like comparing apples to oranges.
Though I will say, from the little I've heard of Tim, his varied "Sound" appears to fit within or adapt to the existing "Sounds" at the time of his own period within the progression of the Western Music Industry, while his son, created his own unique "Sound" that was later mimicked by others.
But like I said, my knowledge of Tim's work is pretty limited.
I suggest you check out GOODBYE AND HELLO, which is Tim's second album, as it pretty much showcases the breadth and incredible range of styles he could cover. My faves on that are Pleasant Street and I Never Asked To Be Your Mountain. I will say that Jeff was equally incredibly talented vocal-wise, mainly because I thought GRACE is simply the bomb, I'd recommend that to anybody in a Detroit minute, because it's that damn good. He definitely inherited his dad's talent, straight up.
This was removed from youtube a few years ago because of copyright laws. I was listening to Fred Neil, and just discovered that Tim's version of "Dolphins" is back on here. Thanks so much !
Tim generally tuned down to a C or a C# from what I've read. Any clue as to what kind of guitar it is that he's playing ?? Looks like a Fender, but I'm unsure of the model.
Those guitars were an attempt by Fender to make an electric 12 string for the folk-rock crowd. The headstock was actually called a "hockey stick" at some point as a joke, but it stuck. They were discontinued in 1970.
@Sprtschk "2 steps" (:o( You've no idea what you're talking about. Any silly person can see here that he has his guitar tuned down 13 steps. I just tune mine down a half step. Much easier.
Tim was on of the best signers I ever saw...and I've seen quite a few up there with Terry Reid or the guy from Journey..Tim's voice got stronger the higher he went and I loved him and Phil Underwood was always incredible what a player so under rated..I used to watch both of them as I could do both myself...as well..
Sadly he wouldn't. He had a terrible record deal and because of his rebellious nature and desire for something more than pop put out avant garde albums that were great but failed to sell. In the end he was reduced to putting out 'soulful' songs like honey man which are really not what he was about. I like to think he would have gotten back in to making music he enjoyed but I think he would have always been on the fringe of being well-known
Great song - written by Fred Neil - but Buckley starts with the last verse. Odd.

Check out the BILLY BRAGG version of this track! Somehow even with Billy's nasally Essex delivery he softens the delivery!
Buckley reminds me of TOM JONES on this????

Thanks for posting. Can't make up my mind whether I prefer this or the Fred Neil version. Both are just incredible.

Yes, judging from the other videos it seems so. No idea what guitar it is though.. not even sure it's a fender, the headstock looks funny..

It is a Fender Electric XII.

for my money Tim Buckley is better than Dylan. He probably would have had just as prolific a career had he not died so young.

I completely 100% agree. Interesting to chart his development over the albums too...
...though Dylan is still genius...
