Unfortunately, that's how she has always sung - scooping. It's the main reason I haven't been able to stomach much of her work (in addition to the shreaky tone she sometimes gets on the top). She has had great technique otherwise. Her voice has remained pretty healthy all these years because of it which you can hear in this clip.
What some considering 'scooping' others find as a real connection to the body of the voice. How many singers stop before the high note just to sing it? Some listeners can't stomach the Callas wobble, the Sutherland mush mouth, the Caballe glottal attacks or Deutekom's clucking.
It is just so frustrating to hear people constantly criticize a singer for a different vocal technique especially if their favorite diva isn't the one singing. I love all of the aforementioned divas btw!

I do find that there are a few too many portamento's in the performance, but it works. Im studying this piece at the moment. Great piece of work!

Don't get angry, just for fun.

I find this so good that it undercuts the power of her mad scene! The scooping up only adds to the eerie effect.
Awesome diva!

Gruberova is one of the best coloratura singer... you may don't like her but with Sutherland, Deutekom, Mesplé ... she's of the very best!!

I think Gruberova is great. Technically she does "scoop" but it suits her voice.

it is not scooping, it is legatto. Not easy to achieve.
