  • This is the best demonstration video on this technique. Thank you!!!

  • It is Uchimata, Kosei uses an almost Hane Goshi style of Uchimata as he was quite short for the two weight divisions he fought in, this type allowed him to throw for big ippons. When he moved to the +100 division he found that this type wasn't as successful as it had been in -100, therefore he began to use the ken-ken (hopping) Uchimata more. However this was his main style of Uchimata, I believe he had 8 or 9 types for differing situations.

  • It's a bit like this - If Inoue says its Uchi-mata, then it's uchi mata. Kano and Mifune wouldn't argue with him, why should anyone else?

  • @add9259net didn't disable comments, proves he is boss!!!!

  • Lol his uchimata is variation. combined.

  • Awesome! I love his Uchi Mata the most! I have an uchi mata as well. CHECK OUT my video on UCHI MATA!!

    It's from the US Open!

  • nice love judo looks intresting i train muay thai

  • @delta9thc13

broooo! include judo! It comes when handy when you clinch up! hah

  • The problem here is that the examples Kosei gives are a bit misleading. What he explains later on in the video is that he first lifts the leg a bit and then comes through between the legs. That is why it LOOKS like Hane Goshi at the start, or even Harai Goshi in some cases (frankly if you look closely at 0:39 there is no leg on the inside of the oponent's legs, so it would not classify as Uchi Mata). It is a form of uchi mata he is demonstrating here, not the default Uchi Mata per se.

  • @mcgocken The example at 0:39 is a perfect example that at the high-level, when it comes to Uchimata and Haraigoshi, the placement of the leg is incidental to the overall mechanics of the throw. This Uchimata variation and Haraigoshi are essentially the same movement. The lifting leg is just an afterthought or way to provide extra momentum and height for the fall. In most great Harais and Uchimatas you are going over before the leg even rises. If it comes up the middle or outside doesn't matter

  • wat's up wit u youtube black belts? this is the traditional kodokan uchimata demonstrated by a japanese olympic gold medallist - not a russian sambo or caucas wrestler. manipulating the opponent's front leg, similar to hane/harai goshi, is the standard uchimata in judo. catching the back leg is simply a variation, effective though it may be, that is not the standard technique. if this comment section is a true indication of the collective wisdom of internet users, wikipedia is doomed.

  • Hmmm... seems like a mixture of Hane Goshi and Uchi Mata. very nice variation. Can't say I've seen one like it before.

  • I agree. Definitely Uchi Mata. Definitely not Harai Goshi

  • Wow! Unbelievable!!!... You tulips are actually saying the Kosei Inoue is not doing Uchi Mata in this video. If Kosei Inoue says it is Uchi Mata, I will take his word over any YouTube heros.

  • lol hari goshi is sweeping hip as in a hip throw with a sweeping leg motion to lift the leg of the opponent its often on the outside in correct form but not exclusively as the throw is not called outside sweeping hip is it???... uchimata is the same form with out the hip as deep in and the sweeping leg makes contact with the back leg of the opponent if any ! as i said no uchimata here, so plz get a clue or maybe a kyu grade .........

  • @boris999222666 for the last time, the video is entitled Uchi-mata because that's the technique Kosei Inoue said HE was demonstrating. It's irrelevant what grade I am, I filmed and uploaded the video, I was there when he demonstrated UCHI-MATA. This is the way the technique is taught in Japan and hopefully across the world. If you think you know better that him then good luck to you. Anyway I'm disabling comments on the video now, thanks for the interest even if you are wrong :-)

  • @add9259net Please don't disable the comments. or if you do at least leave the ones that are up already. These videos are very important and even though it's frustrating arguing with people, Hane-Goshi is probably the most misunderstood and incorrectly identified throw there is, and many of these comments could help people know the difference. Many of the comments on this wonderful Uchi-Mata are excellent!

  • @add9259net it´s definitely uchi mata !! Thanks for the upload mate

  • @boris999222666 uchi mata is done on the inner thigh. This allows it to be done on both legs. Inoue does it on the same leg as he sweeps with, the same leg as harai goshi. Harai is however exclusively done on the outside. Uchi mata being a versatile throw it allows the position of the hip to vary and still be considered uchi mata... and your last remark is arrogant to an extreme ( second dan good enough?).

  • thats hari goshi

and then he did hane goshi no uchimata in this vid

  • thats hari goshi

  • One guy can't learn Uchimata

  • looks like hane to me?

  • Ok, this is a perfect Uchi Mata. I agree, It's a very well done technique from a great champion. I admire Inoue and his "uchi mata". But I'm still not able to match this uchi mata with nage no kata uchi mata. I'm not so sure that we're talking about the same techniques. Surely, we're talking about top class Judo! And that's enought for me.

  • @juottavi you're right but this is one variation of his, if you buy his dvd boxset it's got another 7 versions on it, one of which is more akin to the kata version

  • @juottavi The Nage no Kata style Uchimata is rarely seen in actual competition and in my experience, also not practiced very much outside of the Nage no Kata itself. I much prefer versions like this that involve getting the hip in deep and sweeping my leg up along the inside of the far leg. Although my right foot points outwards when I walk from an injury, so lots of people confuse my Uchimata with Hanegoshi because often the side of my leg comes up the middle instead of the back of my thigh.

  • You have to difference between Koshi-Uchi-Mata (as demonstrated in my oppinion) and Ashi-Uchi-Mata, that goes more to the leg!

  • Man i was hoping to c the old school uchi mata, not the new one where u sweep the inside of the right leg....

  • You usually don't argue some one whos medaled 6 times in the international level..

  • i bet the one disliker is the guy that inoue demonstrated uchi mata on :)

  • WAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLEEEES! <3

  • That is not uchi mata uploader, hane goshi if anything.

  • Je pense que cette technique est plus HANE GOSHI que UCHI MATA

  • Dam i feel bad for the guy thats getting tossed around

  • beautiful

  • nepierdlcie

  • Uchi mata? well after the looks of this you have to use more power than technique. Otherwise its very capturing and interesting to do it like this :]

  • vc abre muito a guarda.......

  • Not practised judo for 20 yrs and a dislocated shoulder but I was a 2nd Dan. Uchi Mata inner thigh this is demonstrating more of a hari goshi technique

  • Around the 1 min mark I see how he enters by like charging up by throwing his foot back, Im just wondering if this is necessarily a bad thing because Ive been trying to break that habbit and I can see it being a problem in Shia

  • @33bulldogg look at the way he throws at the start of the video. As he moves back he creates space with his arms and steps/skips back with his right leg before he turns in. This action therefore creates space and momentum and also helps the kuzushi. I believe 'throwing his foot back' as you describe is just to simulate that movement from a more static position.

  • In my opinion Inoue Uchi mata goes with koshi waza principle (He clearly use also the hip to throw uke) mixed with Ashi waza principle ( Uchi mata should be a sort of internal "barai"). I'd call it "Uchi Harai Goshi" :). Anyway, He rocks!

  • is it me or does it look like a hanegoshi more than an uchi-mata ????????

  • In my opinion that's not an Uchi-mata. It's look mor than a Harai-goshi. And he alway make a step backside. I've learned that tell the enemy:"Hello I want to throw you know!" But during he explain the throw it looks a little bit more like an Uchi-mata. But well. It looks quite good!

  • This is freakin awesome! Mad props to the poster!

  • Looks like Harai Goshi. Not really Uchi Mata.

  • @monchthekid He said "uchi mata" I'd take his word for it.

  • Still ashiwaza, when we use leg to reap thru and perform uchimata! ouchimata is when we take out support leg! (inoue sensei tokuiwaza)

  • O (their supporting leg) or ko (usual leg) uchimata.

  • @newazajunkie

"o" or "ko"?! just know one uchimata... every athlete does it a little diferent, Inoue is showing is version of it. is o ushi gari is much more unorthodox, check it out

  • Thats something I never noticed before: The Tori is sweeping with his right leg, at the Ouke's right leg??? Not his left?..

  • when 8i do uchi mata i hit the otehr leg, is that still uchi mata? if i hit the other leg? or what is it called?

  • so smooth and perfect..

  • Uchimata can be done on left or right leg. As long as the sweeping leg hits uke inner thighs it is uchimata.

That said, coming from a World Champ who does uchimata to such sick perfection, how can we doubt him?!

  • i wanna buy his dvd set but iam from egypt so i cant , can any one tell me where i can download it ??

  • Sometimes the master do a kind of Yama arashi or hane goshi not uchi mata!!! Uchi mata can't be of the near leg or far leg, it is only inner thigh throw...

In this video there is a very pesonal way to do an uchi mata. Certainly not the most popular.

  • and from what i know of uchi mata, the swinging leg is inserted betwenn opponent's thighs, (well not exactly between) that's why it's called an inner thigh throw.

    correct me, if im wrong.

  • Uchi-mata is translated as inner thigh but that can be of the near leg or far leg. For this version, Kosei teaches it attacking the far leg. He pulls to break balance (lots of empasis on this), steps in and aims to get hip contact with his right hip. He brings the left leg in bent, and then as he pulls he straigthens his left leg lifting his opponent with his hip. He then sweeps the right leg back, this then seems to act more as a counter balance as he completes the throw.

  • @add9259net It looks more like hane goshi ; very good visible at 2:43

  • @guitargod01lovesBJJ Kosei inoue's throw is mixed with harai goshi and uchimata like he says all the time.

  • @guitargod01lovesBJJ when i do uchi-mata i always aim right inbetween the legs ^^. If you have good contact you dont have to worry much about breaking your opponents balls. So basicly dont adjust your sweeping leg of concern of your opponents balls XD

  • forgive my ignorance,

but in this version of uchi mata, what exactly does the swinging leg do?

kosei seems to be swinging it effortlessly. when i do uchi mata, i use my legs quite forcefully to get my opponent's balance broken (tsukuri).

    thank you.

  • Looks more like harai goshi because his leg is slightly outside...

  • it's Hane Goshi not Uchi Mata

  • @Kalidone86 Inoue himself said "Uchi mata" are you saying he doesn't know the throw he's showing?

  • The whole principle of hane goshi is very different, it's not only leg placement but a hane goshi would throw uke slightly behind you.

Despite his leg being slightly on the right side, this is still a perfect uchi mata

  • @bla7091 THANK GOS domeone gets it :)

  • Merci pour cette magnifique démonstration

  • I really like these demonstration videos of inoue. They are very usefull. Thanks for uploading

  • This is a Rani goshi...

  • what the fuck is rani goshi lol never heard of it

  • I just laugh when I watch this. After he completes the throw, he is just balanced there perfectly standing on his left leg...every time...perfectly...effortlessly... so precise it's absurd...

  • is uchi mata a leg or a hip throw?

forgive my ignorance, im a beginner in judo.

  • It's actually classified by the Kodokan as a leg technique (Ashi waza) although in the above version Kosei emphasises a good hip entry. Try a Tsuri-komi-goshi and then sweep the leg back, should get you somewhere close.

  • @add9259net leg is just support... breaking balance with your pulling both arms are most important. Without that ur not throwing ANYONE

  • it requires everything. mostly leg and hand

  • @guitargod01lovesBJJ, in my judo club we like to call the normal uchi mata a hip technique and we call the leg variation ashi uchi mata. the difference is; when you do the goshi uchi mata, you place your standing leg between the legs of uke. at the ashi uchi mata you place your leg next to the legs of uke and then sweep your leg between the legs of uke. try both variations and search your favorite, good luck

  • Yeah, Kosei does his Uchi Mata hitting the right leg a bit above the ankle....It is very different from Hane Goshi....absolutely. I do like this form and I personally prefer to do Uchi mata this way because a Uchi Mata done on the Left leg does not always work unless you have uke mounted on your hips and swing with the leg towards the inside.

  • Hane goshi!

  • In danzan ryu jujitsu, uchi mata is called uchi momo harai. Different from Hane goshi, which is characterized by a springing hip.

  • hane goshi

  • lets b honest, its hane goshi really...

    but stil sik

  • It's not Hanegoshi at all. Not even close. The only similarity is that Kosei Inoue tends to attack the inside of the far leg. That's where the similarities stop. Hanegoshi is a springing hip throw. There's no "spring" whatsoever in this throw. Leg placement doesn't dictate Hanegoshi, the hip "bump" or "spring" does. Hanegoshi is the most misunderstood and incorrectly performed technique in Judo. Even blackbelts do it wrong. This is Uchimata through and through. Watch "trailer 5 kosei inoue"

  • Also, Kosei Inoue is arguably the best Judoka in the world at Uchimata. It isn't JUST a matter of taking his word for it, but if he says he's doing an Uchimata, he likely is. Look up any instructional on Uchimata or DVD preview of Inoue doing Uchimata. He 9/20 times attacks the inner thigh of the right leg. I CAN see ho you may think it's a Hanegoshi, as it does look similar. But there is a difference between what Inoue is doing and Hanegoshi.

  • It's gorgeous, I love this technique

Thank you very much for thos treasure

    ;-)
