i am 16 145Pounds. i have a 2006 GS500f 14.5k miles got it for 1900$ used.. only problem is speedo doesn't work. it's my first bike, i had my friend ride next to me he got to 70mph i caught up to him no prob plenty of torque left and no vibration for me at all.. the only other thing i ride is a 49cc scooter so in comparison it handles great, the weight is perfect for me, speed is good enough for everyday commuting.
only thing i find irritating is the suspension, it feels to soft over bumps.
yes I love the my GS 500 all I hear is good things about it. And I'm no begginer I had three bikes Suzuki SV 650, Yamaha YZF 600 n this one. So yea actually I steped down a hundred cc's but I can't tell the difference I guess cuz it's newer It feels like it matches my older bikes on power. So if yall r debating on this bike the power is more than enough for everyday riden and the handling is great cuz of the weight and the price is phenomenal, well worth it.
@ytrewqasfd Well it all depends on what you like the Gs500 has good low end torque as do all V-Twins, and V-twin engines are very reliable and simple thus meaning very little can go wrong and if you like the sound of a V-twin it sounds like a Harley because Harley's are V-twins too.The Yzf if quicker, good top end, personally I like inline engines sound so I sold my Gs for a GSX-R 1000. But personally I'd go with YZF because you will grow out of the Gs's 500cc engine soon. Hope this helps.
@flipknoc hmmm idk I just really like sportbikes, maybe it's because I am a 19 year old dude, I like the performance and they way they look. Kind of a shallow answer haha.
I have the Suzuki GS500F too. It has great power and everything. The only bad thing is because it is so light it isn't as stable on long highway rides. It can go 70 to 80 just fine but it has more vibration than heavier bikes.
@tuppy007 ah good point, I haven't ridden it on the highway yet. I plan on using it to drive to school which is about a 40 minute ride on the highway. I'll have to see how it does.

I understood your answer. Nothing wrong with liking speed and performance at all. Enjoy your bike!
I'm personally deciding between the speed of the GS500F or the chill and comfort of the Honda Shawdow Phantom.

What made you decide to get a sport vs a cruiser?
