  • ive never liked menuhin from the aspect of technical proficiency and accuracy. but thats only because ive grown up in an era where near perfection for intonation and technique is seen as the standard. but i do respect menuhin for his own individual musicality. he had his own way of speaking and in many violin recordings you can tell it is menuhin playing because of his language. many violinists, though they may be great, are indistinguishable from eachother because there is no language/syntax

  • @DualThunder it's all heifetz's fault hahaha

  • i like this but i prefer francescatti.... IMO i hasten to add....

  • the recording is fantastic, and Menuhin is at his best. "Old Russian school" refers to MAXIMUM INTERPRETATION, giving all the skill and proffessionality to best interpretation. So don't critisize it. Europe schools are a bit difficult. Menuhin plays referring to both. IMHO, on the Youtube, after Nathan Milstein, this is the one of the best recordings of good old Kamille.

  • This doesnt sound like him...

  • how can anyone comment, or even criticise, a master such as yehudi menuhin?

  • @vivaweiss he's a master in some spheres, but, agree, that he's not perfect. i think Menuhin is the member of old Moscow school, where the main goal was to play fast and loud. still, i love this concert even if Menuhin isn't the most original interpreter.

Honey, Old Moscow School? What exactly is it? If you're alluding to the late-Soviet-era violinists-competitors, that's one thing, but that's not "Old Moscow" by any means. I suppose "Old Moscow" could be Laub, later A.Yampolsky. Fast and loud? You got something mixed up.... But, then again, you are obviously very young and for you 30 years ago may be "old" :) In any case, Menuhin was never even remotely connected to Moscow, as he was born in the States and educated in Europe.

  • You can criticize the masters, but don't then go congratulating that 3-year old who can play sarasate.

  • Menuhin cant play in this video? That's absolute bullocks.

Why are people so critical of the masters when people who are far less as good get compliments? Or is this just a youtube phenomenon?

BTW This IS one of the better recordings of Menuhin on Youtube - the one for Chaconne was just terribly recorded; and yet there are more compliments for that one than this one.

  • what's with all these people hopping on the "menuhin sucks after 30" train. just because you heard some other schmuck say it in another youtube video or he had one bad performance doesn't mean he was a sucky player. and nothing is wrong with this movement btw

  • menuhin post-the age of about 30 is a disgrace

  • @nzmft85 I think 'disgrace' is too strong a word. His playing is far from perfect. However, there are many great aspects, which make the performance very enjoyable.

  • all saint saens concertos are great!!

  • Listen to Francescatti. Menuhin and Francescatti make an awsome couple. Or must Saint Saens' violin concerto #3 be the performing invention of Francescatti? With respect to Menuhin.

  • this is too good for me to not comment

  • @prayformercy4 this was, not to put too fine a point on it, horrific

  • 591 views and 0 comments? Unbelievable. Thanks for sharing marking19:)

  • Yes, I was thinking the same thing. Too bad, it's a beautifully played piece. But the user hasn't added it too long ago, maybe that's why there are so few views.
