  • Sorry, but you are an embarrassment to the vast majority of "real" Irish people. Don't take my word for it though, just look at how few people turned out to protest the Queen's visit to Ireland.

With regards to Australia, its ironic that your profile lists you as "from Galway but living in Sydney, working in construction. There is a very good reason you are working in construction.

  • Its a geographical reference, not a political one. Tying to promote division and excise all references to what is a shared history, the good and the bad, does nobody any favours. Its as bad as the language fascists trying to force Gaelic on us.

I love this song and grew up singing it. But my father always told me we were just poking fun at the English, and that's how I still think of it today.

  • @balmainguy I doubt you have any complaints about the english language facsists who forced their language on us. How is Ireland geographically British? That would be like saying Britain is geographically a French isle.

  • @TomBarry192I I have no complaints as it wasn't forced on "us". It happened before my grandparents were born. So I relegate it to history and it has no bearing on my life. But you are unlikely to be persuaded by this. You'll spend your life dwelling on past injustices, perceived insults like the Queen's visit, and which of your compatriots are sellouts for not agreeing with you. Life though, is infinitely better when you're prepared to look for what is good about it.... Good luck to you.

  • @balmainguy The English language was forced on the Irish people. I spend my life resisting a current injustice, british rule in Ireland. Would British people invite the head of state of Germany if it invaded and occupied part of England? Too many people roll over and lie down like you.

  • hmm kind of self deprecating this last verse ^^

  • It's great thats its called the 'Irish Sea'. I always wondered what its like to live on the continent where you can drive any where. Wouldnt change things though. Imagiane living in Switzerland with no sea for miles

  • I live in the north of Ireland.

I am not Irish? Catch a grip

  • This is an awesome song. You can tell from the lyrics that Ronnie Drew isn't really pissed of with the English, just tired of them. the British isles our our own separate thing from the rest of Europe and we should be proud of it together, not divided. Northern Ireland join with the republic to form a nice big happy united Ireland and then the Irish wouldn't be pissed of anymore and we could just all live happily with each other.

  • Ireland is an Irish isle not a british one ;-)

  • Ireland is in the British Isles, look it up. It is of course a separate country and some stupid English people need to respect that (most are fine though) I think Ireland, Wales, Scotland and England should be separate countrie in a sort of loose coalition. That'd work best and everyone would be happy.

  • Thats an outdated empire term. Ireland is not in any way a british isle

  • Of course it is, numpty. It's nothing to do with "Empire"

  • @TomBarry192I well said

  • @TomBarry192I Are you even Irish? Or just one of the foreign born / raised who feels more Irish than the people who are truly Irish?

I'm from Dublin and Ireland is one of the British Isles. Whether you like it or not.

  • @balmainguy The people of Ireland are the only ones who can determine what their island is and it aint british. You're an australian monarchist, not a Dub. And if you were you're a west Brit.

  • @TomBarry192I I'm from Dublin and am far from being a monarchist. Australia is my home now but it doesn't change where I'm from and where I was raised. I just don't like people being divisive and pedantic for no good reason and I agree wholeheartedly with the comment Bigwullie1 left you.

I would feel the same if the British wanted to change the name of the Irish Sea to the English Sea.

  • @balmainguy Can you explain to me what makes the island of Ireland British?

  • @balmainguy ireland is one of the british isles???? what planet are you on,, ? austrailia is more of a british country than ireland is,, yeer still part of the commonwealth,, ya say your from dublin ,,call urself bailmain guy,, ya dont have a clue what ur on about,, talking shite,, up ireland ,,up the ra, up tom barry and f,uck u

  • Tell us something we don't know ..

  • did'nt feck enough of the Brits 'into the ocean'

  • what does 'the sea is the gradh geal mo croide' mean?

  • the sea is the love of my heart

  • @TheBigBoose It's "the sea O the sea gradh gheal mo chroídh" which means "the sea o the sea, love of my heart"

  • the water still dident stop them

  • Lovin this vid!!

''Ya will in yer vikings'' - haha brilliant

  • thanks for giving the lyrics. This allows me to enjoy the song all the more... although the music is eloquent enough!!!. Cheers from France ! Eire ..small by its size , big by its spirit!

  • What exactly is that Tom Moore bit about? I can't fathom it. And I always heard it as 'Muir', as Ronnie sings it here. And the chorus sounds much better with the sea 'rolling' rather than 'staying'. Gra geal mo chroi in the spelling I'm used to... ;)

  • I remember this ballad when i was a kid..Not by the Late Great Ronnie Drew..The singer i can remember was the one recorded by Rushlight..The singer escapes me mind ye but a great ballad all the same..Cheers

  • Cant believe I just came across this vid only now,V well put together TB21 TOP CLASS STUFF.

  • Please remember Dominic Behan wrote the lyrics to this and and remember he did n't like romantic well to do wannabe, far from reality removed rebels.

  • None of us Brits want Northern Ireland. Too bad a narrow majority of adults there want to cling on to being British (whatever that means).

  • There is of course something wrong with Northern Ireland being occupied by Britain. The partition of ireland is an unjust, undemocratic and facist means used by the British to maintain a foothold in Ireland. By dividing the country just right, they make sure they maitain a slim unionist majority even though the vast majority of ireland wants to be united and free. Your not Irish, your English and you know very little about our country never mind its complex history and politics. TÁL

  • world politics? invasion more like,. ireland never invaded any country its a pity you cant say that about yours. favouring the union? british history in ireland is a shamefull one and there will always be a resistance to an invasion.world politics my arse ,keep yeer world politics in yeer own country and stop interfeering in ours

  • if only more english men thought like u the world wud be a bettr place

  • @EdPBrowne umm...port of Belfast? Economic power? more taxpayers?

  • I love the Dubliners

  • beautiful... and still felt!

  • I enjoyed that! Again, different version, but same artist. Here I can understand every word, it's a little slower and the lead dublineer doesn't scream the lyrics (which isn't a bad thing, it is a rebel song!).

  • Well done.

  • Damn good video, matches the song!!

  • no ofence but at less we still got our currencey

  • Sterling is the currency of a collection of nations, bit like a mini euro zone. Until England becomes a proper nation u wont have your own currency.

  • Majickal.. Brilliance at it's best, thankyou for sharing this with us all Tom :)

  • It's the Pound Sterling. And it's well over a thousand years old. It's the oldest exchange rate in the world!
