It is Malay language commonly known as Bahasa Melayu (in Singapore) or Bahasa Malaysia (in Malaysia)..this language is widely spoken in Malaysia whereas in Singapore, its is used amongst one of 4 ethnics of the country which is known as Malays. Hope this helps.

not all words in bahasa melayu came from arab. some came from persia, some from spain, some from somewhere. so are the other languages in the world. not all words in one language must derived from one language.
Both Spanish and Farsi have many many wordsborrowed from Arabic.

during japanese invasion, the japs were doing their best to make malay people speak and write japanese using the japanese writing, sing japanese anthem and all; just to show their japanese influence. but it didn't go long enough so it failed, and it was jawi (from arab) and romanian (from british, I guess) letters that made their way to malay nation.
If an outsider sees jawi writing in malay civilization, they wont say oh, this is malay writing but instead theyll say malay people use the Arab writing proving that the Arab made an influence throughout Malaya by the spreading of Islam.

And now that the usage of jawi is fading in malay culture, there are people among us esp the elders trying their best to bring back jawi writing so that we would be recalled more to our root which is islam and the union of malay and arab, the race of the ppl who introduce islam to malay land. But it's a sad thing you're trying to shatter that even more only because of a victimized mentality.
Muhammad is the last prophet, who brought Islam. After Muhammad, there is no prophet anymore therefore Islam is for the believers not just at Muhammads time but for the people until today and till the end of the world. People who accept Islam, are called Muslims and Muslims are the ummah of Muhammad. Muslims should still respect other prophets and admit the other prophets roles, just that Muslims are the ummah of Muhammad while the ummah of other prophets are those before Muhammad.
The guide of Islam that Muslims should hold on is Al-Quran and Hadeeth. Not only Allah had chosen a prophet from the race of Arab to bring Islam, but the language of the Quran and Hadeeth itself also genuinely in Arab. Since we are Muslims, we are bringing up the writing as how in the Al-Quran and Hadeeth, the arab writing, thus creates Jawi in our language. Especially those who brought Islam to Malay land were Arab traders, so it gives a stronger influence of Arab writings in our culture.

Let me tell you, Bumiputra is for preserving the Malays rights as NATIVES! So, we are given some speciality, most of the soldiers that died defending Malaya were Malays and so on. It's not a racist act. I resented it at first but when my father explained it to me, I have come to accept it. I have Arab, Malay, Chinese, Javanese and Bugenese descent, I have Indian friends and Chinese cousins and I told my sister that if she could, one day, marry someone non-malay to help expand unity.

I am not being overconfident. I am so comfortable with Arabic Language that even your Arabic Language Cikgu will be awed and impressed by the dialects that I've mastered on top of MSA - something which most Malays Ustaz cannot even converse!

Ok. I just realized that the word Dewan as in Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka doesn't mean "a place where ppl do their activities together".
Qa'ah= dewan orang ramai
Diwan= as in Dewan Bahasa & Pustaka.
However, I still believe that bahasa is not derived from Arabic word.
If they do, is it a wise claim to conclude 60% of Malays words are borrowed from Arabic, based on "Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka" phrase only?

I mean the word 'bahasa' itself. It isn't derived from ba7ath (what language is that?). As for sultan, sebab, etc, I admit those are from Arabic. Still, is it sufficient to justify your "60%"claim earlier?
The Malay language has borrowed words from Arabic, but 60%, is just too much!
I have no intention to turn this comments section into a language debate place. So, you'll never see me posting in here anymore.

not all words in bahasa melayu came from arab. some came from persia, some from spain, some from somewhere. so are the other languages in the world. not all words in one language must derived from one language.

Both Spanish and Farsi have many many wordsborrowed from Arabic.
Maybe you forgot that Allah SWT chose to reveal His Divine Laws in Hebrew (through the Taurat, Zaboor & Injeel) and Arabic (through the Quran). Regretably, the Jews corrupted the Divine Message. So, you see Hebrew and Arabic are the languages of the Descendants of Nabi Ibrahim a.s.

the reason JAWI exist is to uphold the image of islam in our nation and spreads the islamic influence. it's suppose to be a bond of two different races under one name; islam. our ancestors had good relationship with merchants from Arab countries, who helped spread islam in the nation of malaya.
however, it's fading since british influence when we are getting more to using romania letters, abc.
so now you gonna say that the whole world steals english/roman only because they use abc?

Allah SWT doesn't need JAWI to do that. Arabic can achieve that and more. As such, Allah SWT chose ARABIC and not Bahasa Melayu!

yes Allah s.w.t. doesn't need to. but we do need it; for the share of islam image. but now that we use romanian letters more widely it shows that under what culture the world is living in more.

i don't understand why you have to live with such victim mentality when using jawi for other language is considered as "Stealing" while it is actually to show that islam understanding ruled that particular race. the one who brought jawi into malay language were the arab themselves. so why dont you blame the arab ancestors?
please know that islam is for all. Allah does not count your blood, race or color but your faith; regardless of race.

it's acceptable if you're trying to say good things about arab; to prove why islam starts from that race. but insulting other races as no wisdom or evil for using jawi is barbaric. with jawi writing, it was meant to uphold the image of letters of the quran in our culture while bringing malay people to have a closer bond of botherhood-sisterhod relation to the muslims who brought islam into our land; the arabs.
but you dont see it that way. You take it with evil thoughts.

during japanese invasion, the japs were doing their best to make malay people speak and write japanese using the japanese writing, sing japanese anthem and all; just to show their japanese influence. but it didn't go long enough so it failed, and it was jawi (from arab) and romanian (from british, I guess) letters that made their way to malay nation.

If an outsider sees jawi writing in malay civilization, they wont say oh, this is malay writing but instead theyll say malay people use the Arab writing proving that the Arab made an influence throughout Malaya by the spreading of Islam.

The western are somewhat proud to see their letters in our language (and some others language too). And now that the usage of jawi is fading in malay culture, there are people among us esp the elders trying their best to bring back jawi writing so that we would be recalled more to our root which is islam and the union of malay and arab, the race of the ppl who introduce islam to malay land. But it's a sad thing you're trying to shatter that even more only because of a victimized mentality.

The Arab Ummah contributed only ONE Prophet. Nothing compared to the contribution of the Bani Israel.

Muhammad is the last prophet, who brought Islam. After Muhammad, there is no prophet anymore therefore Islam is for the believers not just at Muhammads time but for the people until today and till the end of the world. People who accept Islam, are called Muslims and Muslims are the ummah of Muhammad. Muslims should still respect other prophets and admit the other prophets roles, just that Muslims are the ummah of Muhammad while the ummah of other prophets are those before Muhammad.

The guide of Islam that Muslims should hold on is Al-Quran and Hadeeth. Not only Allah had chosen a prophet from the race of Arab to bring Islam, but the language of the Quran and Hadeeth itself also genuinely in Arab. Since we are Muslims, we are bringing up the writing as how in the Al-Quran and Hadeeth, the arab writing, thus creates Jawi in our language. Especially those who brought Islam to Malay land were Arab traders, so it gives a stronger influence of Arab writings in our culture.

Correct. But do not forget that we have another prophet that will be returned to us and his name is El-Messih Isa Ben Maryam. He is not an Arab.
