That poor woman had an abusive childhood, so her mental troubles stemmed from that. She refused to leave the bathroom out of fear. Basically an extreme version of Agoraphobia. Her leg muscles had atrophied, which is why in the very end she couldn't get up.

I read about her story from several news articles. The information about her past came from an interview with a woman that had known her most of her life. Even the local sheriff who knew her wasn't very surprised at what had happened. It made me wonder that if several people knew she was so troubled, why didn't anyone bother to help early on... Well, from the articles I read she refuses to talk to the police or anyone else so they can't really find out why she did it or what her exact mental health is. She's obviously mentally ill to be on a toilet for so long, but to what extent they do not know. Yes, I remember this story when it was covered in March. The woman had a phobia of leaving the bathroom. It had something to do with the beatings that she received as a child. She stayed in the bathroom for 2years, but they figure she was actually sitting on the toilet for over a month. The boyfriend was charged with mistreatment of a dependent adult.
