Apparently there are no economists in Zimbabwe...
First, the government printed the currency into uncontrollable inflation. Second, the government put in price controls causing shortages. Basic economic ignorance is killing people.
jklas - what a load of macro economic bull - get your head out of your book and look at reality - or should i say - if the tools of production are within the direct control of the main labour force ,the indirect
influences of the elite managerial corps, whose motives
are profit driven, will be lessened to the direct benefit of the masses, who strive for self etc etc!!
That makes sense. Mugabe (who seems to be out for himself and, his ethnic group) doesn't have Zimbabwe's best interest at heart. Neither did the big corporations.
Zimbabwe could have a strong economy if the people had freedom to own property, own businesses, etc.
False, a free market is simply when someone wants to purchase something from another person. In Latin America, the small shops and, carts are a free market,
the problem is that the government doesn't recognize them, so they don't get protection. In other parts of ther world, small entrepreneurs are hurt by government regulation, often in favor of protecting favored businesses, or corporations.

No, it was Mugabe's comical land reform and destruction of the economy that put Zimbabwe into this crisis.
