Wonderful :) As good if not better than Harlem. I love all the little bell things? lol I'm an idiot. Maybe a xylophone? I don't know what to call it but it sounds nice. Great song.
Phil played these DEMOS and asked me to sing bv´s on the next recording also a track i think was called whats the matter i said to Phil he sounded like an irish Marvin Gaye we both laughed What a charming kind man Phil could be
so many sides of Phils music tastes he wasnt just a rocker he was an excellent musician: he said he wasnt a real bass player like Stanley Clarke and Pastorious and i said those guys cant sing and play at the same time as you again he laughed! miss you phil
let's meet up and come to their houses and slit their throats, cut off their heads and hang it to the gates of buckingham palace. who cares if we get the death penalty, we die as heroes.
Phil Lynott was the master song writer of his era and was back on form when he died. There's two LPs worth of Grand Slam and Solo demo tracks now in the public domain thanks to a few official releases but mainly fans on youtube. He'd have wanted his post Lizzy songs to be heard. It didn't end in '83.
Awesome song thanks Ry for the upload. Jeez its quite interesting to see Phil in the mainstream pop. Its incredibly heartwarming. He really pushed his boundaries. True greatness as a lot of good artists seem to give up after the 10 year period.
May all his wishes come true in heaven with his heavenly heart . He was stuck in the rut of evil bastards who couldnt help themselves, never or less others. RIP REAL MAN
Also he says he just couldn't get the best out of Lynott in those last days because he was just too far gone...shame i think the stuff had so much potential ya know!I might just add to any Huey haters...you like Phil Lynott and Thin Lizzy but hate Huey Lewis, bit weird, its not like were talking about Nine Inch Nails demos made by Huey Lewis (though oddly enough Trent Rezor loves Huey Lewis!)Its all soft rock to some people!
Sounds like you seriously love Huey Lewis. Just because Huey & his News sold a shitload of records doesn't make him any good. I'm guessing you must be into Mariah Carey & Britney Spears if you subscribe to that philosophy. Face the facts: even at the time Huey's music stank of lameness. Huey Lewis made Duran Duran look like the Hells Angels they were that lame.
Anyway this isn't too bad and it does sound like Huey had little to do with this one compared to the other demos which sound naff.
also the backing music doesn't sound anything like the rootsy R&B music of Huey Lewis and News which at the time was cutting edge production like 'I wanna new drug' one of the 1st major radio hits to marry R&B and technology...so Huey clearly wasn't trieing to turn Lynotts stuff into News songs but doing something different.I Love Lynott and Huey!
Sorry, just had to post one more reply as you just made me laugh my ass off. Huey Lewis & The News = Rootsy R&B - ha ha ha.
Simply go watch "If this is it", "Do you believe in love", "Stuck with you" etc to see just how god damn horrible and sappy they really were. I'm kind of guessing that you think "Friends" is cutting edge comedy.
why cant some of you understand that these are quite cleary demos not the finished product? they are great ideas of the tunes but not the final fully produced mixed or mastered tracks, Huey Lewis WAS the biggest American artist of the mid 80s (ten Million copies of Sports and 12 Hot 100 top ten hits confirm this status)
I'm not for or against Huey Lewis. I don't hate the guy, but I don't really like his music. Too damn poppy. The only reason he had all those hits was because conservative 80's housewives liked his upbeat, sappy romanticism...and good for him for realizing this and capitalizing. Another reason he had all those hits was that someone gave him a big break in the music industry, and that man was Phil Lynott. Those little known facts tend to get lost in history though.
Yes Lynott did give him his 1st big break and Mutt Lange wrote their 1st hit, but their Manager Bob Brown also fought the good fight and got them a deal back when the band wasn't even that tight...the rest is rock 'n' roll history(rock 'n' roll as in Elvis/Chuck Berry/Buddy Holly rock, not rock as in AC/DC or Black Sabath/Deep Purple & I like both kinds ya know)
How come when other people make comments about the lameness of Huey Lewis, they don't get jumped on? I do it and everyone tries to argue with me. Are my arguments that damn good that all you Huey Lewis fans feel the need to come to his defense?? I'll assume so.
I guess it's no different here than on the Sabbath vids. I'll assume my keen insights and astute observations poke holes in all your stupid ass arguments, which leads to all the criticism I get, and all the bannings I have to issue.
while it's admirable that lynott attempted to keep up with what he considered to be the "music of the time," the instrumental backing is SO generic/stereotypical 1985.....
but is very very simillar to "Harlem", a song from a live concert of phil lynott and grand slam... i will post it on youtube today (with the link here).
this stuffs wicked, was wondering if you had msn or anything dude? theres a few songs which i havent got, and was wonderin if you had the 'try a little harder' (is that wat its called?) off the vagabonds...boxset, dont wanna buy the whole boxset just for that song!
I have it, but I immensely dislike that song (I've listened to it 5 times and I just can't get into it.) I also have a studio version of "Little Darlin'" and "Song for Jimi" from the same boxset, and I'll probably put them up in a little while. I have to get my lesson plans done first though...
ha well thats probably the reason why its so unknown...judging by its placing in the boxset, it looks like its from the Fighting period right? Maybe you will get into it, just 'try a little harder' haha. The Man And His Music has most other recordings, like ...Lizzy Mobile, Song For Jimi and Here I Go Again, but theyre all ripped from vinyl which i didnt mind until I saw there were remastered versions on the Vagabonds boxset...
Just no words for how...this song is. Wow.

"Huey Lewis made Duran Duran look like the Hells Angels"
I was drinking a can of pop and about spit it all over the screen...fucking hilarious, yet quite true.

This is straight up Lynott at his best. You won't hear stuff like this everyday so listen good.

Wow - this is easily the best song of these sessions.
It sounds like Phil had the studio to himself while Huey and his News went out for lunch. And thankgod for that.
