I completely get and understand Kermode's take on this. I love the original Planet Of The Apes series, not Tim Burton's version so much, but this one was excellent, not a remake, not a prequel just a stand alone Apes movie.

Can understand his trepidation on going to see it, flashbacks of Burton's version kept cropping up for me.

Over all an awesome movie.

It shows an outrageous lack of understanding, of how CGI works, to say that Serkis is the one deserving all the praise (and even an oscar nod) and I'm sad to hear a movie expert make the claim.

Sure, Serkis is really good at what he does, but less than 50% of what he did in the mo-cap studio shows up on screen.

There is a whole team of CGI experts, tweaking every bit of pixel in order to show the emotions and expressions that deliver the performance. It's by no means the same thing as make-up.
