Obama has not done anything yet. However, he has stated at different times that he would support another "assault" weapons ban and, as a Sen, he would vote for it. He has also said that he sup[ports Chicago's handgun ban. As a Sen he also said he would vote for a national ban on concealed carry. The only reason he has not made his support more obvious is because he fears another Dem loss of Congress seats like after Clinton signed the AW Ban.

I have never said that Obama is taking away guns. However, if he did not fear political repercussions, if he had his way, Obama would have a national CCW ban, a national assault weapons ban and potentially a national handgun ban. Waiting until rights have been taken away is too late to try and defend them. If a politician wanted to censor speech, you would not wait until he actually did before you defend those freedoms. My classes are typically about 20 people, and in all of my years of teaching, I've never had one student able to recite the 2nd Amendment. I rarely have more than one or two NRA members in my classes. Oddly, virtually everyone in the room will say they're attending to protect their right to keep and bear arms. Sad. Most of them know little or nothing about that right.

I don't live in America. I live in Hungary and although small compared to the US I can't remember ever having anyone shooting in any school. This is because gun laws are so tight that mostly just high profile gangsters can get their hands on them and it's not probable you would come across any of those guys on the street.
There was a shootout in a bank back in 2002 where six people were killed in what is thought to be a mafia showdown. People are still talking about this today and it's widely believed to be the most violent crime in modern history of the country. Six and a half years now and it's still on the news sometimes.

what is not widely known is that the perpetrators at Columbine were on one of the SSRI drugs, which are Prozac, Zoloft, Xanacs and another. Such drugs do horrible things to a person's mind. Obama has not done anything yet. However, he has stated at different times that he would support another "assault" weapons ban and, as a Sen, he would vote for it. He has also said that he sup[ports Chicago's handgun ban. As a Sen he also said he would vote for a national ban on concealed carry. The only reason he has not made his support more obvious is because he fears another Dem loss of Congress seats like after Clinton signed the AW Ban.

I have never said that Obama is taking away guns. However, if he did not fear political repercussions, if he had his way, Obama would have a national CCW ban, a national assault weapons ban and potentially a national handgun ban. Waiting until rights have been taken away is too late to try and defend them. If a politician wanted to censor speech, you would not wait until he actually did before you defend those freedoms. The same could be said for this debate.

Um.........That's generally the case, at least in certain states. A state like ND has a multitude of firearms, yet they have one of the lowest crime rates in the county. And conversely, D.C. has some of the most strict gun-laws in the country and they are plagued by gun violence.

Americans talk a good game when it comes to gun rights, but very few do more than talk. I teach concealed carry licensing. My classes are typically about 20 people, and in all of my years of teaching, I've never had one student able to recite the 2nd Amendment. I rarely have more than one or two NRA members in my classes. Oddly, virtually everyone in the room will say they're attending to protect their right to keep and bear arms. Sad. Most of them know little or nothing about that right.

This would create a huge black market. The results of this can be understood, if you understand basic "supply & demand" by considering our Alcohol Prohibition, and our current Drug War. The results would be disastrous. Criminals would be driven by the profit motive to steal as many bullets as possible.
This will fail for the same reasons that all such schemes fail. Such laws do not discourage criminals, rather give them more, and more profitable, opportunities.

A primary reason Hitler did not attack Switzerland was because of their policy that every citizen is required to own a firearm. Closer to home, Westmoreland's request for increased troop levels during our invasion of Vietnam was because the administration feared internal rebellion, and wanted the troops here instead in case of such an eventuality. You cannot tell me that citizen-ownership of firearms did not play a role in that decision, or in the ongoing requirement to register weapons.

If the private gun ownership was the deciding factor, why it didn't happen in other countries? One example doesn't make it a fact, and there werer many other factors that were unique to Switzerland.

Remember that just about all shootings happen in gun-free zones. If there are armed people everywhere, criminals will be taking high chances.
Your argument also tells me that the rampager would get shot before they can murder everyone. This would severely decrease their chances of a Columbine Highscore. You must understand, Szkeptik, that killing is only satisfying if one doesn't get killed in the same way, in the process.

I don't live in America. I live in Hungary and although small compared to the US I can't remember ever having anyone shooting in any school. This is because gun laws are so tight that mostly just high profile gangsters can get their hands on them and it's not probable you would come across any of those guys on the street.

There was a shootout in a bank back in 2002 where six people were killed in what is thought to be a mafia showdown. People are still talking about this today and it's widely believed to be the most violent crime in modern history of the country. Six and a half years now and it's still on the news sometimes.

I'm arguing that if guns were not restricted this would not count as a particularly violent episode, nor as the only one. If any guy could have a gun this wouldn't have happened only once in 20 years you can be sure about that. And of course it's not okay for the mafia to have guns, but at least you can be pretty confident that such a criminal won't kill you on the street for the fifty bucks you have on you.
Also ad hominem usually doesn't make a good argument.

That's not true in any sense of the word. Your argument still isn't valid. Why don't you tell that to the families who lost their loved ones that at least it wasn't on the street for $50. If gun violence only happens once every 20 years then why is there 17% of deaths by firearms in Hungary? What proof do you have that gun control has decreased crime in Hungary? I want you to cite your sources and they had better show definitive stats otherwise it's pure conjecture.

The difference is ninefold.
And by the 50$ example I meant that I don't have to be afraid that some addict will come around and shoot me on the street for the money in my pocket.
And I don't even know where you got that 17% deaths by firearms statistic. That looks like a wartime number. Every fifth person dying from handguns is something that happens on battlefields.

what is not widely known is that the perpetrators at Columbine were on one of the SSRI drugs, which are Prozac, Zoloft, Xanacs and another. Such drugs do horrible things to a person's mind. It is documented for 90% of the perpetrators in other mass murders, that such prescription drugs were involved. But we're not supposed to know that...
With others being armed would they proceed knowing they would kill far fewer? Maybe. Or maybe not. Google "Pearl Mississippi Joel Myrick"

Um....I'm not brining up God, I'm telling you whats written in the Constitution, our rights are granted by our Creator, now you can reference that in any way you so choose. The fact is our rights are not "earned" or "bought" they are given by the form of a higher power that the founding fathers decided to base the rights of the American people upon. Apparently, the only thing God didn't give you was a good understanding of the law. You cannot simply (legally) deny people a right.

It doesn't matter what the Second Amendment says as a standalone the 2nd Amendment is only part of the Constitution and doesn't grant a right by itself, it's the Constitution itself that grants those rights, or rather the Bill of Rights, which explicitly states our rights are granted not by our government, or a person, but by our Creator.

Apparently you can't make a coherent argument. I've answered you original question about what does God have to do with our rights, I clearly explain that it's expressly written that our rights are endowed onto us by our Creator, hence our rights being God given. No, you've not read the Constitution, nor the Bill of Rights, if you had, you would understand that it is in fact, stated that are rights are given by our Creator and are universally protected. They cannot be taken away, the United States sees them as basic human rights. And by your own admission apparently you don't know the Constitution, as you just stated I can ask you any part except the Second Amendment and you'll answer, which means you don't have an understanding of at least part of it.

And no, other rights in this case hold no precedent to the argument about the 2nd Amendment, they are not important in the least to the argument, thus it's a straw argument.
