Well get this. I am a registered DEMOCRAT. I met many people in Washington DC in September who voted for Obama and are now VERY sorry they did. Yes, these are just average Americans. How about starting with why anyone would equate giving those without insurance a "public option" to "gov't health care" & "a gov't takeover of the HC system" when a) it's the only part of the plan funded by premiums, not taxpayers, & b) most people wouldn't even qualify for it & CBO estimates it would only have about 3% of the market, & c) In no other advanced nation has any form of public option destroyed the private insur. Industry.

a) Why destroy the current system for the benefit of 3%? The UBER left is hell bent on doing just that! They establish the rules for their "option" as well as for the companies they are supposedly "competing" with. The UBER left's idea of competing is to STAMP OUT competition. It's just like when Obama ran for his first state senate seat in IL. He didn't "compete" with ideas. He simply found ways to knock his competition off the ballot. They are trying to do the same to the insurance cos!

Your focus is too narrow. It goes beyond that. Listen and learn something. The LEFT is attempting to put the private insurance companies out of business, with our without a public option. If you REQUIRE that all insurance companies offer insurance without regard to pre-existing conditions BUT, on the other side of the equation, impose only a small fine that is a FRACTION of the actual cost of insurance, not only do you not succeed in convincing people who previously chose

not to have insurance to buy it, WORSE, you encourage those already paying for insurance to DROP IT because they know they can apply for insurance at any time and the companies would be required to offer it. What auto insurance company would stay in business if you could buy insurance AFTER you had an accide and still be covered for that accident?  NONE! It is no different in health insurance. Therefore, if you support this idea you are either STUPID or WANT the private companies GONE!

If I thought you were worth the energy I would look up the section. However, are you unaware that all of the pending legislation, in one form or another, requires insurance companies to accept all applicants without regard to pre-existing conditions? Are you also unaware the Senate Finance Committee bill (The Baucus Bill) reduced fines for those who do not purchase insurance to a fraction of the actual cost? I'm sure you can verify that.

As for gov't setting rules for insur, co's those rules prohibit discrimination for preexisting conditions or gender, stop the practice of dropping coverage if you get sick, eliminate the caps on insurance benefits, and close the doughnut hole for seniors.

This is very simple. It is one thing for the government to establish rules, so long as those rules are in keeping with the U. S. Constitution. It is quite another thing for that same goverment to then COMPETE with the same companies it regulates. It represents a fundamental conflict of interest.

And please stop telling me about the other countries of the world. Without us most of those same countries would be living under either Facism or Communism.

Virtually every other advanced nation has both public option (or UHC) & private insur. options.

b) Do you remember how all this started? "We have 46 million uninsured. We have a responsibility to take care of them". That's not what we have now. We now have a 1,990 page bill, with a price tag in excess of 1 TRILLION dollars that covers 46 million? No. Only THREE percent. Given this countries current economic circumstances that is hardly worth the cost. Oh, and about those CBO estimates. They are only as good as the input they are given from the LEFT. Their current healthcare system started innocently with the government helping to finance hospitals in the 1950's By the 1980's the only entity remaining was the government. Hip replacement in America is about a 3 week wait. In Canada it's 12 to 18 months. They load you up on oxicontin to kill the pain. You are a drug addict before you ever get the surgery
