Best car in it's class. Highest quality interior hands down. All the others use hideous crap plastics. The car is the most tight and solid build, the Elantra is a tin can in comparison. I recommend people go out and drive the Focus for themselves, I did and it was my best test drive experience ever. As for styling, I think the Focus is the clear winner, especially compared to the Cruze and Jetta which already look aged.
@atrevproduction Elantra Tin can..lol???Buddy Elantra won car of the yrs in2011&2012..lol.It beats the Focus in ever category except4the performance in the car.But ImNOTin2performance&only need good gas mileage.Elantra does that the best out of the Compacts. These cars arent sports cars. All Hyundai models have been doing well.Sonata won car of the yr in2011&the Kia Optima just won4this yr.Ive seen3Youtubers saying that they have had problems with their Focus..lol
@atrevproduction 1problem that they had was with theSHITTY MyFord Touch which keeps freezing&the only thing they could control is the volume of the car&he couldnt even turn off the radio or use anything else.2nd problem was the transmission of the car was shuttering&the speedometer was acting up.3rd problem was the cheap material in the car was falling apart.Same with the outside&the guy couldnt even close his door properly.Styling wise Inoticed Udidnt mentioned the Elantra..LOL
@atrevproduction Compared2the Elantra the Focus has little leg room4backseat passengers. The truck space is small in both the Hatchback or Sedan. The Elantra has plenty of trunk space&leg room4backseat passengers. The Elantra tops all the compacts with the most space in the backseats&trunk space. Also Elantra just looks more luxuries inside&outside:)Does ur Focus offer backseat heated seats..lol???Elantra does:)
Dunno but how could they design such taillights? The front is okay but for the back, now way. I'm more looking forward to a review of the 2013 ford mustang anyways. xD
Edgy design? Has long gone. This fatty already looks tired. I particularly dislike front bumper vents and rear light clusters. No wagon. 23K you say? 10 years ago the ZX3 was offered for 13K. At least this time the Focus comes with rear headrests. 24MPG judging by the info screen on your car is nowhere near advertised 27/37 MPG. In fact, my Mk1 Focus wagon returns about 27MPG in mixed driving and up to 30MPG on a highway. The Mk3 is not a step forward, it is an attempt to step up.
I rented one of these a few months ago, and there definitely is engine lag from a dead start, quite off-putting. Also while operating in the "manual" mode, a downshift from 3rd to 2nd put me unexpectedly in neutral. In this package, for me, it's not quite ready for prime time.
I am glad Ford stuck with a true compact size for the Focus, while the Cruze and Jetta are really cheating by making them bigger so we can't really compare those with others cars that are smaller.
Im glad Steve says that the Cruze's interior is more luxurious than this Focus. I was beginning to think i was the only one thinking that... All these fanboys piggy-backing off motortrends comparison review is getting old.
Took a looong time for Ford to realize that the Euro versions of their subcompacts were way better cars than the ugly econoboxes they released in the States depriving the North American market the very same features of what the Euro versions had. It was a dumb marketing mistake.
So when the Focus finally came to the States, it succeeded ten or fifteen years too late. It's now such a crowded market. This Focus still has some catching up to do.
@triplexxxsatyr Yeah, Ford's rationale behind it was that Americans viewed compact cars as cheap cars and people weren't prepared to pay the additional money that the premium Focus would command so they offered a watered down version. In Europe, due to gas prices, compacts and hatches are looked at as "higher end" small cars so you can price them accordingly. Now that compacts are fuel efficient AND bigger, Americans are more interested. The Euro Foci(?) are much cooler. :)
Thanks for bringing up the automated manual transmission issue. I rented one of these over the Thanksgiving holiday, and I honestly thought something was wrong with the car. I couldn't see myself getting used to that...
My Mom bought the same package (SEL Hatch) in Oxford white with the only option being a moonroof. She absolutely loves it and can't stop talking it up! Coming out of her low mileage '94 Merc. Cougar, which was her pride and joy, that's saying something. Great handling, excellent gas mileage and she loves the ride and utility of the hatch. It is a bit of a tech leap for her however, but getting used to all the features i.e. sync.
Loved the 2005 zx4 and i want to get this one.

ford does not know how to make a fold flat seat in a volume car. the seats in my escape take the same amount of steps to fold as the seats in this.

also, the interior and exterior seems to be a bit overstyled, they're gonna be dated fast.
jsiszero 2 months ago
@jsiszero i think the opposite is true. understyled cars get dated fast ex. civic, corolla, forte

Trends come and go. Design industries have known this for decades.
jsiszero 2 months ago
@camaroman101 disagree..compare a new 2012 Elantra to a 2012 Golf. The latter will look good for many years and the former will be forgotten

kind of overpriced, $23k for a mid trim model.

@2003SCT Yes, you are right, but euro concept isn't very good, because for a slow 110hp 1.6l diesel engine we (in portugal) pay 26.000€ (34.000$)
