I wish all our politicians were like this man.... honest and straight up... Our country would be a much much better place with more people like Sanders....
Forget Bernie Madoff. He was just child's play. The bank heads & corporate so called leaders need to have there assets seized! So the people of the world can be paid back just like Bernie Madoff did and Enron did! Jail time for all the top 20% of their companies.
Thank God there are people speaking the truth. It is about time... When we let people do whatever they want to do. They always come up with a Ponzi scams so they can get money for free nothing & don't have to work. That is why we need regulations/ laws and maybe just the ten commandments enforced?
There breaking all western countries on purpose, look what there doing to Europeans, flooding there collective countries with 3rd world Islamic barbarians, who gang rape there girls, gang beat the men and old people, chanting death to the west and how they will rule over them AND there governments are not even protecting the people as if none of these horrors are even taking place daily, which they are.
But you don't understand, the invisible hand will fix everything!!! *sarcasm*
It's great to see americans waking up to the possibility of social democracy. Don't let the old propaganda and the "red scare" fool you. Don't vote against your own interests, unless you have a mansion or two and an oil field in your garden there is no way you will benefit from the globalist economy.
The disaster was at least partly caused by a bill then US SEnator Phil Gram of TX attached to another bill that decreased regulation of the financial industry and therefore opened up the road to the flakey mortgage instruments that brought down the financial markets and steamrolled the US economy into its near depression.
Sanders is an independent who does owe either party anything and thusly can truly represent his constituents. Politicians of all persuasions should stop being politiians after the elections, and become Statesmans, working for the good of the country, not just their party and to be reelected.
Guys like senator sanders and ron paul are the only hope for the american people , without senators like alan grayson and the two previous I would write U.S.A off all together... I keep the faith that my southern bretheren will DO THE RIGHT THING <
Capitalism is the final chapter in historic evolution of THE TYRANNY OF PRIVATE PROPERTY RELATIONSHIP of alienation, exploitation and suffering of humanity, a Market mechanism where minority interest is the NEGATION OF OUR COMMON HUMANITY IN COOPERATION and HARMONY. We shall overcome the structure of minority power and oppression and reclaim our planet for a world of cooperation for our common needs and well being, expressing our energetic creative divinity in freedom of being.

I think America is a great nation but you are about to crash due to all the issues you have and the divisive nature of your politics and economy, your lack of action on issues of poverty and the decline of your cities, not to mention your misadventures - i.e., wars and meddling overseas.
You can't sustain it, it's clear, and you need to change before it's too late.
The fact is social democracies in Scandinavia have higher standards of living, education, health and longevity than the U.S.
They continually rate higher than America on indexes based on education, innovation, entrepreneurship, environment, security ... and even happiness.
That can happen when you don't have extremes of wealth and poverty like in the U.S. and, incidentally, when you don't spend more than the next 10 nations in the world combined in terms of military spending.
One of the biggest factors in those countries you mention is that the economic crisis created in the U.S. is largely responsible for the economic situation in some European countries.
You don't mention the success of "socialist" (the correct term is social democracy but that doesn't sound as scary, does it?) countries that continue to have good GDP, entrepreneurship, education and a safe and healthy population like Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, etc.
Want cheaper healthcare? Stop printing so much money which debases the f fiat (counterfeit) currency and stop letting the trial lawyers bribe the crony-leftist politicians so they can take 30% of the multi-million dollar lawsuits which drives everybody's health care costs UP because of "Defensive Medicine".
Europe is in "better shape" financially than the US because of socialism?!?!?!
Hello... riots in Greece, England AND spain.... hello? FACTS MATTER!
@yakyakyak69 Yes facts do matter. England is rioting because they elected a right wing asshole like yourself who trippled college tution. Greece and Spain are simply corrupt, everyone has known that, and it has nothing to do with Social Market (Not fucking socialism as you call it) economies. Hey want to talk about facts, lets talk about Germany, Austria, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and Holland. Germany for example has 7% unemployment. Facts matter. Swish that around a bit asshole!
Yes facts do matter. England is rioting because they elected Progressive Socialist assholes who taxed and spent them into oblivion.
Can you buy anything you want? Can you print currency and pass the inflation tax onto others to you can buy any vote you want? Pandering IS corruption, FOOL. Pandering is Cronyism to special interest groups and fool (like you) who believe that everything is free or it O.K. ot enslave some so others can have "free stuff".
@yakyakyak69 No one says that socialized medicine is "free" fucknuts. The question is whether it's moral. England is actually far closer to the US than any other european country in europe except ireland. Lets check them off. Low taxes for corporations, check. No bank regulation, check. So they had a housing bubble just like the US of A. Now the contards walk in and say, look what you did. Oh, and if your way is so fucking great, explain why germany has a 7% unemployment rate and US 9.8
@yakyakyak69 Once again, another contard, who's never been abroad, doesn't know shit about shit, and is spouting fox news talking points. Get an education!
You are a total fuckin piece of SHIT, and you'd realize that if you'd pull your face from your sister's crotch! Fuck you and your incestuous, faggoty bullshit!
i love how in america if the government wants to do anything to aleviate some sections of societies problems, automatically, America's going to turn into a communist state and the right wing go mental. look around the world, lots of countries provide welfare and their not running round calling eachother comrade. end of day it's all about money, and the rich guys in business don't want to lose their money
Yes, end the Federal Reserve the most important thing to stop feeding Mr.Potter let Jimmy Steward run our banks (It's a Wonderful Life) economics. When mans labor serves each other real free trade will exist but when mans labor serves the federal reserve and its subsidiary banks that is slavery. This is very basic economics when peoples resources are directed into monopolies of large money institutions we are dead. Nature does not work on these large centralized scales they always break down
You know the world is upside down when Bernie Sanders and Ron Paul are working towards a common goal. Everyone blames the extreme left or right for what has happened in this country, and I think Senator Sanders and Congressman Paul have both realized that its actually the center that is weakening our country.
I dont think it's so much the center but the far left and far right groups. It's amazing to see how much control these groups have over their people be it the Tea Parties of today or the anti-Bush movement of 4 years ago. Those people tend to put alot of faith in their leaders without really questioning anything.
I agree with Laura. The only thing I have to say about credit default swaps is that they are STILL happening, even tho we have a new administration, with the same wolves from the same den watching the hen house!!! Fucking corrupt!!
Makes me feel like a rocket scientist, or maybe we just totally over value the narrow thinking, "To big to fail", where are the attorneys to go screeming about anti trust violations. Where are the attorneys who will apply the laws about bargaining in good faith? Where are the lawyers who have the moral fiber to protect stock holders from liars like th CEO's who lied and stoll their way through trillions of dollare in "credit default swaps" pure corporate gambling.
No, it was NOT deregulation that caused this economic mess. It was the Fed's artificially manipulating interest rates, easing loan criteria and easy fiat money coupled with YOUR Community Reinvestment Act and Progressive-Corporatist Central Planning BS.
YOU created the ENVIRONMENT that promoted Wall Street's malfeasance and malinvestment.
Wall Street just gambled knowing that Crony Progressive Politicians like YOU would bail them out if they lost.
Of course deregulation caused this, you tard! I quote from Wikipedia: "the Gramm Leach Bliley Act... enabled commercial lenders such as Citygroup to underwrite and trade instruments such as mortgage-backed securities and CDOs and established so-called structured investment vehicles that bought those securities. The year before (it's passage) sub-prime loans were JUST 5% OF ALL MORTGAGE LENDING. America doesn't need your clueless misinformation. Take a course in history, dipshit!
The Community Reinvestment Act FORCED Fanny &Freddy to back these worthless loans with the full power of the Federal Gov't purse. This put an artificial floor under the mortgage values which caused an environment of malinvestment because lenders could NOT lose. As expected, the taxpayer bailed out those lenders who lost their gamble.
Keynsian Progressive Central Planning caused this problem. These same IDIOTS think MORE = Change!
Take a course in history & Austrian ECONOMICS, dipshit!
Where do you get your information - talk radio shows? You are such a right wing shill, yakyakyak. Less yaking-off and more facts. Firstly, depository institutions were only encouraged -not forced- to make loans. Secondly "the CRA does not stipulate minimum targets or goals for lending. This from the study done by the Federal Reserve Board of Governors in partnership with the Brookings Institution titled "The Community Reinvestment Act and the Recent Mortgage Crises" - cont. next post...
"We found that the loans that are the focus of the CRA represent a very small portion of the subprime lending market." and in conclusion "...the evidence does not support the view that the CRA contributed in any substantial way to the crises in the mortgage market." Doesn't get much clearer than that. The study was very empirical. Get off your ass and google it if your done yaking-off and giving people misinformation.
"In conclusion, there can be no doubt that Greenspan, primarily through his low-interest-rate policy but also through the negative effects of his various bailouts, was responsible for the housing bubble and therefore the current slump."
Greenspan as in the Federal Reserve Central Bank. Public Policy ring a bell? Read much kid?
@yakyakyak69 It's what they do. If they can't win an arguement with intelligence and facts they go to personal attacks or pull out the race card of the anti-semetic card.
@JokerMouce The Progressive Statist (Socialist & Fascist) ideas have been proven time and time again to NOT work becasue man is not insect and we don't work well in a collective and we don't like beaurocrats bossing us around.
So Progressive Social-Fascists use Poltical Correctness to tell people to Shut Up. It's all they have. It would be sad if they were NOT so damn dangerous to liberty and prosperity.
We MUST defend the USA against all emenies both foreign and Congressional.
Yep, Greece, Spain, England, France are ALL bankrupt because redistribution for "social justice" KILLS all incentive to innovate and risk capital and labor to improve the quality of life. Why bother when the fruits of your labors are redistributed under a socialist system. Socialists make slaves of the successful to reward failure. That is NOT justice!
If by "always work" you must be referring to lowering the general quality of life while bankrupting the nation.
NO international study or standard holds to your mistaken perception of things. Those countries are suffering economically like we are, but they're ACTUALLY recovering, and never experienced the joblessness we have.
We have more poverty, worse education, higher infant mortality, pay MORE in medical, more depression, more suicide, shorter lifespan, etc. than all of Europe!
Have you ever researched anything? Our quality of life here is nothing compared to the Europeans on average!
In the unlikely event the anybody thinks I am calling Bernie Sanders a tard. I am not. I have the utmost respect for Bernie Sanders. I am calling yakyakyak a tard because he is totally glassy-eyed indoctrinated in the same fairy-land free-market ideology that caused the greatest financial crises since the Great Depression. It is exactly what caused Bush and his neocons to embark on a deregulation experiment that ended in this disaster.
I dont get why DojoNDude and Yakyakyak69 are in disagreement.
Getting rid of regulations like glass steagall obviously allowed banks to create derivatives which greatly factored into the financial mess. Ron Pauls book End the Fed also makes a clear case that the Federal Reserve has set low interest rates which allowed the banks to lend money that they otherwise wouldnt have been able to (think bigger bonuses). This created the housing bubble and inflation. Both of them can be right.
tristamshandy the reason things are the way they are is because of "armchair americans" like you who who shirk your RESPONSIBILITY as an american citizen and DO NOT CALL THE PEOPLE WHO WORK FOR THEM WHEN SOMETHING IS WRONG! When you turn chickenshit and say that calling your congressman or senator isnt meaningfull then YOU BECOME THE PROBLEM. We not only have to fight arrogant gov workers we gotta fight arrogant pathos civililians! Your negativity is sickening & discusting
It's crazy how we can even have two parties making a decision under one parties belief. Republicans are not going to vote/agree/side with any democrat or democratic belief. Decisions will not be passed and we will keep slipping into debt. This may sound crazy to some, but why don't we start growing and selling our largest cash crop? Marijuana. Even if we were just to export/sell it and not allow American legal rights to it, we could get out of debt in 10 years. Does anyone agree with me?
We are headed for a depression. The "problem" - not seen by govt experts - is too much debt. If they had, then the Government would not believe they can change a depression/deflation by spending a lot more money. Govt Stimulus is an illusion - like a giant Ponzi scheme. You can't cure too much debt by issuing more debt.
Debt has gone up 80% since 1990. Total official US debt of government, consumers and corporations is now $52 trillion - or about $600,000 for every family of 4.
its really hard to pay any mind to things that happen when your world is the matrix eat, sleep, teach, work, repeat as u can see no time to actually have time without distraction
Why cap credit card interest rates? I agree they can be abusive but why isn't there competition by other card cariers to offer lower (better) interest rates? Credit cards are a privilege, not a right.
Sure and why aren't there all those competing banks not fucking everybody with their 37.00 overdraft fees. The same ones arranging the charges so the biggest comes off first and ka-ching ka-ching all the rest. IT AIN"T COMPETITIVE ANYMORE!!!! It's a corporatist organization now running the show and little people with their thumbs up their asses who just can't figure it out.
Then why not focus efforts on busting up the trusts, monopolies, and oligarchies? Rather than bringing in more overhead costs to manage government run programs?
So true, The reason our gas prices were at 5.00 a gallon wasn't because of supply and demand, IT WAS THE BANKS! My question is why did we bail out banks for kicking out homeowners who made paid lots of money during the housing spike with interest only loans instead of giving thoseindividuals the difference to keep their homes!
the real problem here is that way too many americans are spineless gutless MISINFORMED cowards who are terrified of calling THEIR VERY OWN REPRESENTATIVES AND BITCHING!! IF YOU DONT LIKE THE WAY THINGS ARE THEN CALL YOUR GOD DAMNED CONGRESSMAN/SENATOR!! HE WORKS FOR YOU NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND.You will find his/her #in the phone book. Thank you
dave777 remember,EVERYTHING you see or hear on any "mainstream" media outlet is controled/manipulated/dominated by multi-billion/trillion dollar corporations. What you see/hear/think is criticaly important to them as their revenues depend on you buying their product. Dont think for a second giant corporations dont "hire" shills to flood the internet/airwaves/ with propaganda while at the very same time blocking any change to the hog trough. Youre obviosly watching WAY too much CNN/Fox/MSNBC
I find it odd that Americans come out of the woodwork to fight against healthcare for all.but there isn't a peep out of Americans when the Govt spends 56 % of the budget every year on militarization .what does that say about Americans?
it says that the blood of the innocents in Iraq is on your hands and soul .After all it was done in your name and you never once fought it.Americans will continually be looted gutted and raped by the govt and the corporations because Americans are easy marks.
Well, it's very much like when Bush was fighting the war in Iraq, every raging liberals came and cried foul. Now that Obama is in the whitehouse, still fighting in Iraq (twice as many private contractors running the war), Cindy Sheehan is the only one protesting thesedays, so much for peace-mongering liberals.
You set fire to the house and then blame the fireman for the water damage. And you learn nothing in the process. So in 8 or 12 years, when conservatives are, again, in the majority, you'll set the same fires again.
You are losing me here with your analogue, but traditionally, it's liberals who start / fight wars in your country. Remember it was democrats in early last century who thrusted the nation into the war (the WW1 and WW2). The Korean war wasn't even declared - Truman simply called it a police action (35k US death). Then came LBJ, who is still revered as the great *progressive* by many delusion liberals despite all with his war deception, lies and 60+K US death.
and let's not forget the war in Iraq. Neoconservatives are not *conservative* - they are in fact hardcore war-hawk, welfare statists from the LBJ era. Once Trotskies, they thrived under LBJ as social critics, but it wasn't until Reagan, an ardent anti-communist, invited them (starting with J Kirkpatrick) to join the party to pursue hawkish foreign policy.
So, no, if you had *conservatives* in the house like R Paul, you wouldn't have wars or unending occupation in Iraq, Germany, Korea, Japan..
World War 2 was the greatest sacrifice our country ever made, and yes, the country sacrificed as a whole. Not like these scumbags driving along in their Hummers with a "support the troops" sticker on them. You should be ashamed of yourself for dishonoring the 60,000+ who died to save them world from tyranny.
ok. firstly I'm pretty sure than more than 60+k died in the WW2. No, I disagree with you - I think 60+K died in Vietnam died in vain to satisfy liberal's unending apetite for control.
ah, i see your point now. so hypocritical i must say. So it's okay to pretend that you are an anti-war when the other party is fighting. when your party is running the war, you oppose the war by pretending there is no war! another great liberal logic.
What does ANY party of to do with war or the deaths of those who are fighting for us here at home? WTF? You need to start looking at your country, your WORLD for that matter as being something that is the responsibility OF ALL PARTIES. We so flucked up when we made this two party system. Nobody works together anymore.
No, Mr. Kumbaya, not really. There is one political idealism that pushes your country to endless war and unending occupation all over the world in the name of unipolar stability - it's called modern "liberalism" (aka, sibling of neoconservative) and they mainly use the Democratic Party to promote their ideology.
The problem today with the political parties in American isn't so much that they aren't working together, but that they have become so much alike that it's difficult to tell them apart.
What's interesting about your comment (and I agree) is that somehow we are "sold" the idea that our issues are a right-left problem -- like a pendulum used to hypnotize: right, left, right, left... Meanwhile we're distracted and corrupt fatcats profit. The issue is NOT a right-left one, it's an UP-DOWN one. The fatcats above only go where they see the greatest opportunity, right or left, it doesn't matter. While we're in a trance, they're raiding the store.
Well, what's in a name? Liberals by any other name would stink just as bad and sound just as delusional.
Yes, the political parties are merely vehicles for promoting ideas and they do change (the dems was once up on a time the party of free-market, individual/civil rights, etc, but that was a while back). The dems are certainly more militaristic and billigerent, but they also have better PR machine, mainstream media, DOE(ducation) on their side.
funny that you think liberals sound delusional- have you been listening to the right wing since Obama took office? :)
Also funny that you want to somehow sell republicans as the peaceful alternative to dems. Good luck selling that- bush/cheney,inc. were better for the military-industrial complex than any president since Reagan.
you missed my other posts: necons who engineered Bush's foreign and domestic are not conservatives - they are hardcore liberals who once thrived under LBJ. They switched the political party in the 80's under Reagan (an ardent anti-communist) to pursue their hawkish foreign policy (see Jean Kirkpatrick).
Speaking of MIC, when Eisenhower warned about military-industrial-complex, he wasn't exactly looking at conservatives or libertarians like Goldwater, he was worried more about war-mongering
war-mongering liberal democrats like JFK. Of course, as far as most Americans are concerned, JFK + LBJ liberals saved the world from the brink of collapse (th cuban crisis they created) and led the efforts to more peaceful, transparent gov't. Oh let's not forget all those poor blacks lifted from poverty and social oppression-*sarcasm*. Now Do Americans even question why there's more private contractors fighting in Iraq under Obama or even why the US is still fighting there?
Is conservatism more evil, militaristic than "modern" liberalism? Well, no, it really depends on what your definition of "conservatism" is and how it's shaped b
y th media and public education.
Interesting that you'd bring up Socrates - b/c conservatism at its core is about, as Socrates once said, understanding the extend of your ignorance and knowing that you don't know.
incorrect again. conservatism is about clinging to what you have now- progressive liberalism is about looking for new ideas and solutions. Socrates was as liberal as they come- and was put to death by conservatives for questioning the gods.
Conservatives tend to be more ignorant and closed-minded than liberals- it's inherent in their respective ideologies- where one clings to the past, while the other looks to the future.
No Regulations ?? railroads failed, airlines failed, Wall street Failed,Banks Failed. You can't raise chickens and have Foxes in the hen house and then wonder what happened to the Cickens ?????
I wish more pols were like Sanders and Paul, I don't agree with everything either says but they are both clearly logical and intelligent. I guess that makes me independent, I think socialized health care makes sense but I think GM should be private and the gov smaller. I got a feeling a lot of people in the US feel the same way. The world isn't black and white and our political views shouldn't be either.
@kemicon I think if we want smaller government, we can start with the defense industry. Do I want to be so vulnerable that someone is tempted to invade, hell no. However the excessive amount we spend on defense needs cutting. Also we must do something about the lobbying. We should make it a felony to work as a lobbist sooner than 10 years of leaving a government job or political office.
@Newenlightenmentnow true enough, the defense budget is massive which is one thing, but the lack of accountability for where the funds actually go is a bigger mess in my eyes. There's a lot of R and D that comes out of the DOD budget, med research, aerospace, tech etc... So I'm not anti Defense. I have a bigger problem with the department of homeland security. Where were the right wingers complaining about big government when that idea got hatched?
I kept saying since the '90's at least, that this would happen on Wall St. & to our economy. I also said that there was a housing bubble a couple of years before it hemorrhaged! I was told I didn't know what I was talking about.
My reasons were: outsourcing jobs, selling off our assets, importing cheap labor, deregulation, corruption, no oversight, greed & an economy based on debt. Also the trade deficit & "free trade" (NAFTA & WTO) that only benefits a few, the top 1% in the country!
Dont forget the flooding of cheap credit into the system. The Austrian theory to the trade cycle explains why boom and bust happens. Oh and im forgetting government backed Fannie and Freddie insuring mortgages.
So we're not suffering from capitalism and unrestrained greed. But rather cronny capitalism, facism and a central planned monetary system. Oh and the moral hazard built into the banking system, by the banking system itself.
How come everyone that predicted this crisis has been ignored yet the idiots that caused this crisis & didnt see it comin are responsible for getting us out of the problem they caused, & the problem they didnt forecast?
So we have economists that saw this coming. Shouldnt they be listen to? Why trust the guys that make excuses? Watch this vid, Peter Schiff predicting this happening watch?v=zdVP_sgCETo
These assholes that are in charge says its over, everyone that predicted it say different
It's such a shame to hear some of the BS about health care. Is there a bill? The bill everyone keeps referring to has had several amendment proposals rejected by Pelosi by the Reps that would inforce verification of legality and tort reform. The dems won't even look at it. Not one has said nothing needs to be done. That and race are the only argument the dems have, It's not just the the reps it's the dems also.
Chill out buddy, there are several different bills floating around. The legislative process is not over. Let's work for a compromise that includes citizenship verification and stronger tort reform. By the way, what is your plan for tort reform? My wife's in law school so I know the tort system is very complex.
It stuns me when people call for "Tort Reform" for medical cases.
Most states have a "Malpractice Pool" system that makes it unattractive for attorneys to take on any malpractice case. The average wrongful death payout is $100k, and the legal bills to get there will take the entire settlement.
MANY private healthcare groups provide substandard service because it is already cheaper to fight in court than it is to provide care. Sheesh
Exactly, and on top of that, the stupid jury usually finds for the doctor because they don't want to think that a doctor could do something bad. The cost for lawsuits is less than 1% of profits for the medical industry. It doesn't even dent their profits while those they maim and kill have no recourse.
It always amazes me that the news reports when someone gets a 50 Million wrongful death settlement, but doesn't report when the court of appeals knocks it down to $75k.
What about looking at the Singapore system? Its not a blackhole of insurance or socialised ponzi taxes. The government does and will look after any emergency cases but their system costs pennies and is very efficent.
kill the fed and replace it with what? you have to have some institution to regulate the money supply, otherwise there is no national currency system. do you want a better central bank, or a return to trading gold nuggets for food?
Countries did better without central banks than with them. The federal reserve is a huge failure. The dollar has los 98% of its value since the fed came into existence. Its tripled the money supply as of late. So from the looks of things we're goin into hyperinflation.
How bout bringing in competing currencies and currencies tied to gold?? This will give banks restraint and allow the people to prosper rather than having the wealth transfer cause by inflation watch?v=-gn55fTRXZw watch & learn
What country did better w/o central banks? The US has always had a central bank. Britain has had a central bank for the entire modern period. Are you saying that life in the 1600s was better than life in the 1800s in Britain?
Are you seriously suggesting that the United States have its money supply controlled by foreign governments??
Um.. No it hasnt!! the first bank was called The Bank Of North America from 1781-83 then 1787-1811. Another BUS 1816-36 then 1913 to present is the Federal Reseve, a private bank.
And they all ended cause of inflation. Like we're entering into. We're entering into it cause of Greenspan and Bernankes policies. Policies they warned the Japanese bout in the 80s and are doing now.
Recession isnt over theyve made it worst, say hello to hyperinflation
And a country thats done better without a central bank?? Let me see.. How about all of them. And how about from 1836 right up to 1913.
If central banking was so great the first American bank wouldnt of failed twice, the second wouldnt have failed, Bank of Zimbanwae wouldnt havefailed and the federal reseve's time is up!!
Also competing currencies in the same country, local currencies etc, Both foriegn and home. Mexican and spanish money was excepted before American money bacause it was
Because it was more trusted. It wasnt until it was outlawed and Americans were forced to take the likes of Continentals that they stopped using real money. Americas lookin at 300% inflation now or worst.
And watch this. Its a study into when England had competing local currencies. They were very successful then!
First of all there s no such thing as too big to fail. If the banks didnt get bailed out their debt would of been liquidated and the "recession" eould be over already. New Zea had a simular crisis and left them to it.
Second reason and cause is two fold.
1 Long Term Capital management went broke and Greenspan bailed out his buddies by lowering interest rates causing sucsessive bubbles.
2 the monetary system of central banks, guaranteed mortgages etc. Central banks exist to allow all
to allow all the banks to uniformly inflate together. Theyre also the "lender of last resort". However you should notice they dont bail out everyone like Bear Sterns.
This is cause theyre not part of the "group". The fed is a brivate bank owned by private bankers. Goldman Sachs etc. They exist so that these banks can inflate and loan with no risk of losing their jobs.
However the fed doesnt have savings. It prints the money it needs, diluting down the existing money making ours worthless!
name one academic economist that thinks that. there are certainly some from the chicago area that think recessions are somehow good, but no one thinks that the collapse of AIG et al would not have been a financial catastrophe.
Name one economist!!! My god i can name a string and theyre from all over. Jim Rogers, Peter Schiff, Marc Faber, Max Keiser, Thomas E Woods, Gerald Celente etc etc.
All say that we would of been better off if we let the banks collapse. Basically if we let those big overpaid bakster take the hit and liquidise the debts rather than putting most of them on the tax payer.
And all of these economists predicted the crisis. The same ones that say we need the fed etc didnt see it coming!!
You need a recessions to liquidise the debt. Trying to get rid of it by lowering interest rates and injecting money into the system only creates bubble after bubble and only makes things worst.
Long term lead to (dot)com bubble, which lead to stock, leading to house and everything else.
Were currently waiting for another bubble. Unemployment is at 16% and rising.
How come before Keynes most recessions were between 1-3years. After him theyre longer?
False. Schiff thinks recessions are good and healthy. He said we should let the banks fail and endure the consequences, not that the consequences wouldn't happen. He has a weird value system. To him somehow the free operation of markets is the ultimate goal, rather than maximal happiness of society.
He thinks and knows we're better with a recession. When Keynesian was tried by Hoover and then Roosvelt we had the great depression.
Now if you compared that to the 1921 recession which was even steeper, when they increased interest rates and cut government spending the recession was over much quicker with lower unemployment.
We're using keynesian now. It created this depression & has drove unempoyment up to 16%.
Never happens again...that's what they said last time .
You know the great depression Bush and crew took all the protection away.
Look you don't have to bail out fraud it stupid to even consider it. Audit the fed , reverse the transactions, put the country in bankruptcy protection.
No, Bernie Sanders is just the closest America gets to a normal center left politician in the rest of the western world. Ron Paul however, is an extremist nut with no parallel with any other mainstream politics anywhere on the planet.
Far right Libertarians are a particular American breed for the most part.
Ron Paul isn't a nut. majority of US troops vote went to him. he's just an old school conservative. he is for state rights, and less federal power. He is one of the few congress persons I support.
Of course he isn't a nut, he's just mouthing the words of the founding fathers for the most part. These days anyone who speaks like that is considered a nut, and that should tell you something about our current society, along with the fact that our first black president boycotted the conference on racism.
show me some statistics. all the people i know personally who went to iraq did so because they wanted to fight in a war, or thought it was their patriotic duty. i get the feeling from most of the anecdotes i've seen is that a vast majority went into the military because they wanted to, and were happy to serve their country in iraq. that's fine, but i'm just saying it's weird to vote for an anti-war candidate if you are such a volunteer.
If Ron Paul is a nut then so was Thomas Jefferson. He's just standing up for the constitution and the things that we're supposed to stand for, like individual freedom and democracy. Does that make him an extremist? How about his anti-war, anti-empire philosophy? Is that extreme? Maybe it seems that way to us, but only because we're now unabashedly an aggressively militaristic world empire. Anyway, I think if Ron Paul was a extremist nut Bernie probably would not like him very much.
You're an ignorant fool if you think the moderate socialist ideals ( by the standards of the rest or the western world ) Sanders holds dear are anything like the far right libertarian radical ideology of Ron Paul. ( Who has no guts btw, because he's still a republican )
There are no functional libertarian societies nor have there ever been. Socialist nations however, are the best places on the planet to live ( Norway, actually according to the latest study )
"thealexjoneschannel" blocked me for a criticism I made of Alex even though I'm a devoted fan of Alex and Jason. For Chinese style restrictive Internet filtering go to "thealexjoneschannel."
Good luck in your quest to audit the Fed....... But I think you have more chance of landing a man on Mars than getting those thieving scumbags to open their books. They have screwed America for 96 years......so it would be nice to deny them there one hundredth birthday party,
You can't have a fixed rate top rate on credit cards interest because the prime rates changes. One of the reason they remove the cap before was because the prime rate was like 18% in the late 70s and card card companies could only charge 21%. So they couldn't make any money. The prime rate is the rate that banks pay to borrow money. The government can say you can't charge no more that X percentage points above the prime rate.
For example the government says bands can charge no more than 10 points above prime. If the prime rate is 5% then the most they could charge is 15% interest. You have to let these guys make money in order to have the service.

The fact is social democracies in Scandinavia have higher standards of living, education, health and longevity than the U.S.
They continually rate higher than America on indexes based on education, innovation, entrepreneurship, environment, security ... and even happiness.
That can happen when you don't have extremes of wealth and poverty like in the U.S. and, incidentally, when you don't spend more than the next 10 nations in the world combined in terms of military spending.
alchemyish 1 year ago 12
yakyakyak69, yes, facts DO matter.

DojoNDude 2 years ago

DojoNDude 2 years ago
"We found that the loans that are the focus of the CRA represent a very small portion of the subprime lending market." and in conclusion "...the evidence does not support the view that the CRA contributed in any substantial way to the crises in the mortgage market." Doesn't get much clearer than that. The study was very empirical. Get off your ass and google it if your done yaking-off and giving people misinformation.

DojoNDude 2 years ago
I dont get why DojoNDude and Yakyakyak69 are in disagreement.
Getting rid of regulations like glass steagall obviously allowed banks to create derivatives which greatly factored into the financial mess. Ron Pauls book End the Fed also makes a clear case that the Federal Reserve has set low interest rates which allowed the banks to lend money that they otherwise wouldnt have been able to (think bigger bonuses). This created the housing bubble and inflation. Both of them can be right.

Well, it's very much like when Bush was fighting the war in Iraq, every raging liberals came and cried foul. tooltalk 2 years ago
You set fire to the house and then blame the fireman for the water damage. And you learn nothing in the process. So in 8 or 12 years, when conservatives are, again, in the majority, you'll set the same fires again.
rickdahms 2 years ago
You are losing me here with your analogue, but traditionally, it's liberals who start / fight wars in your country. Remember it was democrats in early last century who thrusted the nation into the war (the WW1 and WW2). The Korean war wasn't even declared - Truman simply called it a police action (35k US death). Then came LBJ, who is still revered as the great *progressive* by many delusion liberals despite all with his war deception, lies and 60+K US death.
tooltalk 2 years ago
and let's not forget the war in Iraq.
So, no, if you had *conservatives* in the house like R Paul, you wouldn't have wars or unending occupation in Iraq, Germany, Korea, Japan..

ah, i see your point now. so hypocritical i must say. So it's okay to pretend that you are an anti-war when the other party is fighting. when your party is running the war, you oppose the war by pretending there is no war! another great liberal logic.
tooltalk 2 years ago
What does ANY party of to do with war or the deaths of those who are fighting for us here at home? WTF? You need to start looking at your country, your WORLD for that matter as being something that is the responsibility OF ALL PARTIES. We so flucked up when we made this two party system. Nobody works together anymore.
jeangrey65 2 years ago

Yes, the political parties are merely vehicles for promoting ideas and they do change (the dems was once up on a time the party of free-market, individual/civil rights, etc, but that was a while back). The dems are certainly more militaristic and billigerent, but they also have better PR machine, mainstream media, DOE(ducation) on their side.

you missed my other posts: necons who engineered Bush's foreign and domestic are not conservatives - they are hardcore liberals who once thrived under LBJ.

Interesting that you'd bring up Socrates - b/c conservatism at its core is about, as Socrates once said, understanding the extend of your ignorance and knowing that you don't know.
tooltalk 2 years ago
incorrect again. conservatism is about clinging to what you have now- progressive liberalism is about looking for new ideas and solutions. Socrates was as liberal as they come- and was put to death by conservatives for questioning the gods.
Conservatives tend to be more ignorant and closed-minded than liberals- it's inherent in their respective ideologies- where one clings to the past, while the other looks to the future.

The world isn't black and white and our political views shouldn't be either.
kemicon 2 years ago 10
@kemicon I think if we want smaller government, we can start with the defense industry. Do I want to be so vulnerable that someone is tempted to invade, hell no. However the excessive amount we spend on defense needs cutting. Also we must do something about the lobbying. We should make it a felony to work as a lobbist sooner than 10 years of leaving a government job or political office.
Newenlightenmentnow 1 year ago

Also the trade deficit & "free trade" (NAFTA & WTO) that only benefits a few, the top 1% in the country!
usedtobesupermom 2 years ago 3
Dont forget the flooding of cheap credit into the system. The Austrian theory to the trade cycle explains why boom and bust happens. Oh and im forgetting government backed Fannie and Freddie insuring mortgages.
So we're not suffering from capitalism and unrestrained greed. But rather cronny capitalism, facism and a central planned monetary system. Oh and the moral hazard built into the banking system, by the banking system itself.
Have i forgot anything? Oilgarchy maybe? NWO?

It's such a shame to hear some of the BS about health care. Is there a bill? The bill everyone keeps referring to has had several amendment proposals rejected by Pelosi by the Reps that would inforce verification of legality and tort reform. The dems won't even look at it. Not one has said nothing needs to be done. That and race are the only argument the dems have, It's not just the the reps it's the dems also.
StopBarak 2 years ago
Chill out buddy, there are several different bills floating around. The legislative process is not over. Let's work for a compromise that includes citizenship verification and stronger tort reform. By the way, what is your plan for tort reform? My wife's in law school so I know the tort system is very complex.
monroesq 2 years ago
It stuns me when people call for "Tort Reform" for medical cases.
Most states have a "Malpractice Pool" system that makes it unattractive for attorneys to take on any malpractice case. The average wrongful death payout is $100k, and the legal bills to get there will take the entire settlement.
MANY private healthcare groups provide substandard service because it is already cheaper to fight in court than it is to provide care. Sheesh
LeoWolfComedy 2 years ago
Exactly, and on top of that, the stupid jury usually finds for the doctor because they don't want to think that a doctor could do something bad. The cost for lawsuits is less than 1% of profits for the medical industry. It doesn't even dent their profits while those they maim and kill have no recourse.
FindingKC 2 years ago
It always amazes me that the news reports when someone gets a 50 Million wrongful death settlement, but doesn't report when the court of appeals knocks it down to $75k.

What about looking at the Singapore system? Its not a blackhole of insurance or socialised ponzi taxes. The government does and will look after any emergency cases but their system costs pennies and is very efficent.

kill the fed you dumb fcuks
fudge1963 2 years ago
kill the fed and replace it with what? you have to have some institution to regulate the money supply, otherwise there is no national currency system. do you want a better central bank, or a return to trading gold nuggets for food?
monroesq 2 years ago
Countries did better without central banks than with them. The federal reserve is a huge failure. The dollar has los 98% of its value since the fed came into existence. Its tripled the money supply as of late. So from the looks of things we're goin into hyperinflation.
How bout bringing in competing currencies and currencies tied to gold?? This will give banks restraint and allow the people to prosper rather than having the wealth transfer cause by inflation watch?v=-gn55fTRXZw watch & learn
NicosMind 2 years ago
What country did better w/o central banks? The US has always had a central bank. Britain has had a central bank for the entire modern period. Are you saying that life in the 1600s was better than life in the 1800s in Britain?
Are you seriously suggesting that the United States have its money supply controlled by foreign governments??
monroesq 2 years ago
NicosMind 2 years ago
And a country thats done better without a central bank?? Let me see.. How about all of them. And how about from 1836 right up to 1913.
If central banking was so great the first American bank wouldnt of failed twice, the second wouldnt have failed, Bank of Zimbanwae wouldnt havefailed and the federal reseve's time is up!!
Also competing currencies in the same country, local currencies etc, Both foriegn and home. Mexican and spanish money was excepted before American money bacause it was
NicosMind 2 years ago

Central banks exist to allow all
NicosMind 2 years ago
to allow all the banks to uniformly inflate together.
NicosMind 2 years ago
name one academic economist that thinks that. there are certainly some from the chicago area that think recessions are somehow good, but no one thinks that the collapse of AIG et al would not have been a financial catastrophe.
monroesq 2 years ago
Name one economist!!! My god i can name a string and theyre from all over. Jim Rogers, Peter Schiff, Marc Faber, Max Keiser, Thomas E Woods, Gerald Celente etc etc.
All say that we would of been better off if we let the banks collapse. Basically if we let those big overpaid bakster take the hit and liquidise the debts rather than putting most of them on the tax payer.
And all of these economists predicted the crisis. The same ones that say we need the fed etc didnt see it coming!!
NicosMind 2 years ago
You need a recessions to liquidise the debt. Trying to get rid of it by lowering interest rates and injecting money into the system only creates bubble after bubble and only makes things worst.
Long term lead to (dot)com bubble, which lead to stock, leading to house and everything else.
Were currently waiting for another bubble. Unemployment is at 16% and rising.
How come before Keynes most recessions were between 1-3years. After him theyre longer?
NicosMind 2 years ago
False. Keynes had nothing to do with the German recession that led to Hitler. It was a long one.
monroesq 2 years ago
Did i say Keynes had anything to do with the Weimar Republics hyperinflation?
No!! However Hoover and Roosvelt used Keynes, and thats what caused the Great Depression.
We never had a recession last longer than 5 years. There was recessions that started worst than the 30s ended in 2 years.
Also comparing Canada 30s to America also proves using Keynes fucks you up!! Look at how well Canada performed.
NicosMind 2 years ago
False. Schiff thinks recessions are good and healthy. He said we should let the banks fail and endure the consequences, not that the consequences wouldn't happen. He has a weird value system. To him somehow the free operation of markets is the ultimate goal, rather than maximal happiness of society.
monroesq 2 years ago
"name one academic economist "
Schiff
He thinks and knows we're better with a recession. When Keynesian was tried by Hoover and then Roosvelt we had the great depression.
Now if you compared that to the 1921 recession which was even steeper, when they increased interest rates and cut government spending the recession was over much quicker with lower unemployment.
We're using keynesian now. It created this depression & has drove unempoyment up to 16%.
Keynes is much worst 4 society
NicosMind 2 years ago
Never happens again...that's what they said last time .
You know the great depression Bush and crew took all the protection away.
Look you don't have to bail out fraud it stupid to even consider it. Audit the fed , reverse the transactions, put the country in bankruptcy protection.

Bernie Sanders is the Ron Paul of the Left.
mrzack888 2 years ago
No, Bernie Sanders is just the closest America gets to a normal center left politician in the rest of the western world. Ron Paul however, is an extremist nut with no parallel with any other mainstream politics anywhere on the planet.
Far right Libertarians are a particular American breed for the most part.
RickWarrenisjesus 2 years ago
Ron Paul isn't a nut. majority of US troops vote went to him. he's just an old school conservative. he is for state rights, and less federal power. He is one of the few congress persons I support.
mrzack888 2 years ago 2
Of course he isn't a nut, he's just mouthing the words of the founding fathers for the most part. These days anyone who speaks like that is considered a nut, and that should tell you something about our current society, along with the fact that our first black president boycotted the conference on racism.

mrzack888 2 years ago
show me some statistics. all the people i know personally who went to iraq did so because they wanted to fight in a war, or thought it was their patriotic duty. i get the feeling from most of the anecdotes i've seen is that a vast majority went into the military because they wanted to, and were happy to serve their country in iraq. that's fine, but i'm just saying it's weird to vote for an anti-war candidate if you are such a volunteer.
monroesq 2 years ago

Sorry, sweetie.

Debonair73 2 years ago
For example the government says bands can charge no more than 10 points above prime. If the prime rate is 5% then the most they could charge is 15% interest. You have to let these guys make money in order to have the service.
