While we cannot speak for others, perhaps we may explain our own habit of backing into a parking space.

When we still drove (these days we have an Irish chauffeur- he gets 10 miles to the pint of Guinness), we would invariably back in.

It prevented the casual towing away from parking in the expectant mother/disabled slot at Kroger's.
