@emjaiz You just won't listen will you? Another "know it all" dumb shit YouTuber. Sorry man, you fail. You've had at least another 3 people disagreeing with you. But hey "punch in a few keys" and the CGI is drawn and animated for you! You have a Pixar movie in a week! Just stfu, you're making yourself look dumber and dumber as you post. Shoo now, adults are talking.
OMG nostalgia!, this trailer was on the movie "Honey, I shrunk the kids"... back then i didn't speak english yet but I could say each "Tracy" along with the trailer as well as babbling each sentence.
> headmouse: Leave Pixar alone! Their stories are head and shoulders above the below par garbage that's being churned out of the main animation studio these days.
@ra55i10n Being better than crap is no achievement. Pixar makes pretty movies, but if they didn't no one would give a damn about them. Their movies also tent to be forgotten rather quickly.
Way toy story really the masterpeice is was hailed as when it came out? Was monsters inc? Is there anyone who dind't feel like wall E stopped being good after he went into space?
@RXdash78 because cars and a bug's life were subpar. especially cars. pixar has gotten better over time, and i think their movies are better written and directed now more than ever.
@holocausticity That's exactly my point. People only mention the poular movies and negelct to mention the failures. Any other studio has to live with their bad movies, but pixar just gets a walk.
@ra55i10n Yes becasue it takes such talent to sit at a computer and tell a program what to do. The ink & paint department was full of men and women with REAL talent. TO sit and hand draw and hand paint each individual frame of a movie. the people at Pixar could only dream to have shuck skills.
@headmouse CGI isn't about "telling a program what to do." It's just as tedious, and involves just as much skill as a hand drawn animation. Just requires a different kind of skill
@Dragonrider1227 Let's see... I punch in information and the computer draws AND animates the figure for me. Hand drawn, I have to draw it myself and then draw the next frame just slightly different over and over until the figure looks to be animated. NOT THE SAME AT ALL!
@headmouse You obviously don't know how CGI works. It's not "punching information." At least not when it's good like Pixar. Even on a computer you still have to draw the image. It's still tedious and takes time and effort. Especially if you want to make sure it's done believably and with all the proper little details. Maybe not as much as hand drawing. Which yes, is a fantastic form of art that DOES take lots of time and talent but just being made on a computer doesn't mean it's easier.
@Dragonrider1227 amen. i keep telling people this when it comes to cgi. they all do "pfft, they just did it in a computer". people have been brainwashed to think that just because something's done in a computer, it's done instantaneously with little effort. it's NOT. i should know, i took a 3D computer rendering course, and it's tricky stuff.
@Dragonrider1227 Tricky yes, but still having a computer do all the work for you. Your not really animating anything, the computer is animating it for you. Try sitting down and drawing a cartoon frame by frame making each character move step by step. Then tell me which was harder work.
@Dragonrider1227 I never said CGI was not hard work in it's own right. But there is a lot more skill and talent involved in hand drawing a film, (or hand doing anything for that matter.) When you program a machine to do everything for you and all you do is punch in a few bits of information, then there is no real "art" involved. Honestly, What is more impressive, The original Mona Lisa, or a copy that was scanned and printed?
@headmouse I disagree that there's no art involved. Any time you put work and love into your creation, it's art. Despite what your medium is.
But yes, it IS more impressive when you hand draw something. Hell, even Pixar agrees with that since they themselves love the classic 2D films as well
@headmouse "Punch in a few bits of information" - Oh god, that's the dumbest comment I've read from you. LOL. You seriously made me laugh; you are that idiotic and naive.
@emjaiz And how pray tell, do you think the information gets into the computer? God your such a dumb ass. You really need to shut the fuck up now. You have rambled on and on about how you think I know nothing about CGI, yet you have yet to post anything about your extensive knowledge of the subject. Apparently you can't fucking read either. "Well, seeing how I took an AV class for 4 years in high school and made several CGI films for the school..." So once again I know how this shit works.
@emjaiz Sure, I have no idea. I only grew up watching the Disney animation dept make movies. Watching how much actual work and talent went into hand drawing frame by frame. Now it's just a few guys sitting in a room moving a mouse around and thing they are "making" movies. Don't try to glorify their job. It's a computer program. nothing more. Until those guys can pick up a pencil and actually draw and then paint one frame at a time, they are nothing more then VR geeks. Laugh on that one.
@headmouse a few guys sitting in a room? Try hundreds, you truly have no idea of what it takes to produce cgi movies. They actually draw the character digitally and animate everything from by frame. Don't talk because you're making yourself look really dumb.
@emjaiz And for every 1 guy in that room add 10 more for creating hand drawn animation. So for your hundreds, they would have thousands. The only reason you want me to stop talking is because I am telling you the COLD HARD FACTS. I know EXACTLY what it takes to produce CGI movies. and I know EXACTLY what it takes to produce hand drawn animation as well. While the people using CGI do have a talent, it is NOTHING compared to those that hand draw and paint them. Now go back to your WOW game.
@headmouse Sorry man that's not how it works. "I know EXACTLY what it takes to produce CGI movies" - Sorry, but from your naive responses, and what myself and other comments have been telling you; you have absolutely no idea, but sure keep telling yourself you do. You do realise CGI requires drawing both CGI and on paper right? You have to animate every single frame as you do with hand animation, you have to design and draw the character with a tablet. You really have no idea, I laugh at you.
@emjaiz Well, seeing how I took an AV class for 4 years in high school and made several CGI films for the school. I think my comment "I know EXACTLY what it takes to produce CGI movies" is dead on. CGI does not REQUIRE any paper at all if the creator does not wish. Any and all "drawing" can be done on the computer. So now I laugh at you and your sad reality. Thanks for playing. Come back and try again next time.
@headmouse "I punch in the information and it draws and animates" You said that in a comment to someone else, if you think this you have obviously never touched CGI and know nothing about it. You just need stfu with your incoherent "anti CGI" rambles. And I said it requires drawing both CGI and paper, obviously a studio has to draw concepts first before going CGI. Oh yeah, and producing CGI takes more skill than hand drawn animation. You silly dumbass.
@emjaiz But this is beating a dead horse. you young people today wouldn't know real talent if it slapped you in the face. So go back to your lives immersed in your computer worlds. God help you when the plug is pulled.
@ra55i10n RIIIIGHT becasue the classic hand drawn animation movies were such crap. You damn kids today have no real vision. If it's not made on a computer, then you think it's crap.
@headmouse I don't think he's talking about the classics. Read the comment. "Their stories are head and shoulders above the below par garbage that's being churned out of the main animation studio these days." He said THESE DAYS. These days they're not creating classics. Well, Princess and the frog & Tangled could qualify in the future but not say... Mars needs moms.
This trailer can be seen on the original 1990 VHS release of "Honey I Shrunk the Kids (1989)" The TV Spots for the film can be seen on the original 1990 VHS releases of "Betsy's Wedding" and "Ernest Goes to Jail"
@JTHMBirdGuy777 And what do you do? Try doing that every day till you die, I'm betting you would die bored. Bowie was great in Labyrinth and The Prestige, and I applaud people who dare to try something else. You should too.
@dumbodonus no, they really dont. who is better than pacino and beatty in those roles? and besides, all we need is another remake these days, I am getting sick of remakes.
@RyZombie619 Original ideas are hard to come by, who says that Pacino couldn't make an appearance. The more I think about it though the more i realize that the remake would just look like a colorful Sin City
@dumbodonus NO! this movie is wonderful and unique and it kicks the ass of all CGI stuff! The cast is unique and the way they made the special effects is really creative. We don't need a remake that ruins this movie, just like when they raped Clash of the Titans transforming a childhood memory into a God of War's ripoff popcorn movie.
The only remakes that I like is Karate Kid and King Kong.
Bisides, Warren Beatty don't want no sequel/remake/prequel of Dick Tracy thank Godness!
@DeepEye1994 For sure its unique and was good for its time but what better way to honor a movie than remaking it. I'm just saying I would love to see if someone could successfully redo this classic. By the way, King Kong was not a good remake. They just took Titanic, Jurassic park, and a few other big named movies and threw them together. By the way whats with the intense looks from Jack Black. Every 10 mins he would turn, look up, and have this surprised/crazy look.
Great movie, this movie and The Rocketeer plus Batman 1989 made my childhood in the late 80's and beginning of the 90's for comic based movies. I was 8 years old when this came out in theaters and i loved it yet still do think it's great fun including Rocketeer, anyone thinks this was the original "Sin City"?
@Johnlindsey289 I too remember going to see this in the theater when it was released. I liked it then and i still like it now although Batman and The Rocketeer are both a bit better, in my opinion. When i went to see Sin City the very first thing that came to mind was Dick Tracy.
@Johnlindsey289 I had some trading cards, sticker book, coloring books, official movie magazine, a making-of book, video game and some latex masks. I played the McDonald's game and watched the cartoon on tv too.
@colliric Batman was not a kids movie. Returns was even better than the first. The first was supposed to be more like the second one, and a third was all but filmed. I really wanted to see the rumoured Travolta riddler.
Batman '89 wasn't a kids flick, but it part of that whole early ninties dark kids flick thing, because it was a kids flick in that kids loved it and the studio's noticed kids loved it then began to pump out dark kids flicks like Dick Tracy.
Remembering the "gangster movie" segment from The Great Movie Ride at WDW,I always thought it was a shame they never built that "Dick Tracy" ride;the idea was abandoned when the movie wasn't a huge hit.
i just got done watching this movie and i have to say. i have never seen a worse more non-sensical, pointless, headache inducing movie as this one. and i have seen the super mario brothers movie!
I guess I still like the movie. My fave villain was the Blank because "he" was mysterious and u never woulda thought it was Madonna's character. As far as the cartoon, I only remember the opening.
Its funny you say that because I've heard that Frank Miller is planning to remake Dick Tracy in 2014. I've always thought it would be cool if he remade Dick Tracy too... I think it's funny he's really going to now... I guess I can see the movie future.
@ThePissedOff This is not a kid's movie. Only because it's colorful and made by Disney (the same guys who directed Return to Oz) it doesn't make it a kid's movie. This is a film for everyone, because it's also dark, edgy and violent, just like Batman (1989) .
Sin City is awsome, but Dick Tarcy is better than The Spirit.
To everyone that says this movie was not a kids movie. this WAS a family movie. it was great for kids and adult alike. So it wasn't dancing animals and magic fairies. Who cares. There was no foul language, no hard core sex (or any sex for that matter). This movie was one of Disney's best films, before they turned into "every dog, cat, hamster, frog has to sing and dance and it all has to be animated by Pixar" crap.
@headmouse Umm, Disney had singing animals LOOOOONG before Dick Tracy.
Disney is at its best when it's taking risks and trying new things, like Dick Tracy, Pirates of the Carribean, or yes, even the Pixar movies, which are indeed good.
It's at its worst when it's just just churning out cheap, crappy direct-to-DVD sequels to 50 year old movies (Bambi II? Cinderella III? Seriously?)
The Pixar movies USED to be good, now they are just getting dumb. Toy story 3??? WHY???? Bolt, and the one with the hamsters. Enough of the singing hero animals that save the world.
@headmouse bolt isn't pixar. it's just disney, not disney + pixar. and i was wondering what your problem was with toy story 3. i thought it was brilliant, and so did many others.
@Dragonrider1227 Yes, I did see TS3. "WORST TOY STORY MOVIE EVER" they were reaching so far for a plot they had to literally reach into the dumpsters. Bolt was nothing more then yet ANOTHER "animal saves the world from bad guys" movie. Getting tiered of that. Think of something original.
Dick Tracy may have been a family movie but the original Chester Gould strip was far darker in tone with elements
almost of Film Noir and had memorable execution style deaths, torture, Femme Fatales and other elements that likely would have gotten a PG-13 or R rating if Beatty had gone in that direction.
@headmouse I agree headmouse... and I know I'm gonna get smacked in the mouth for this but I liked that movie. I can watch this, Swiss Family Robinson and Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea on a Sunday afternoon and be in perfect bliss.
I hear that this movie wasn't received that well (barely breaking "acceptable"). People who rated this movie at that time obviously didn't expect the crap that would be today's movies.
Dick Tracy is very original, unique and funny movie. Warren Beatty was great. Madonna was no less impressive. Nice to know that she has not only "flop movies" but such great hits like this one.

I was 8 years old when this came out in theaters and i loved it yet still do think it's great fun including Rocketeer, anyone thinks this was the original "Sin City"?
Johnlindsey289 1 year ago
@Johnlindsey289 I too remember going to see this in the theater when it was released. I liked it then and i still like it now although Batman and The Rocketeer are both a bit better, in my opinion. When i went to see Sin City the very first thing that came to mind was Dick Tracy.

Did you had any DT merchandise and even played the Mcdonalds game and the video games as well? or even watched the 60's toon on Nick as well?
Johnlindsey289 2 weeks ago
@Johnlindsey289 I had some trading cards, sticker book, coloring books, official movie magazine, a making-of book, video game and some latex masks. I played the McDonald's game and watched the cartoon on tv too.

@Johnlindsey289
not to mention the fantastic film adaptation of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles!
This, Ninja turtles, and Batman... the perfect trilogy of dark superhero flicks.

@colliric
What about Rocketeer? great one too.
Johnlindsey289 1 year ago
@Johnlindsey289
yeah but I always prefered the dark first TMNT flick. I mean it had Shredder in a getup that Darth Vader would be proud of...
Thanks go to Batman for giving us that "Dark kids flick" period! Sadly Batman Returns probably ended it by going too far into the Goth...
colliric 1 year ago
@colliric Batman was not a kids movie. Returns was even better than the first. The first was supposed to be more like the second one, and a third was all but filmed. I really wanted to see the rumoured Travolta riddler.
XxAussieFuryxX 1 year ago
@XxAussieFuryxX
Batman '89 wasn't a kids flick, but it part of that whole early ninties dark kids flick thing, because it was a kids flick in that kids loved it and the studio's noticed kids loved it then began to pump out dark kids flicks like Dick Tracy.
colliric 1 year ago
@colliric
Even Batman TAS was sort of for kids but more aimed at bigger kids, teens and adults.
Johnlindsey289 2 weeks ago
@XxAussieFuryxX
Returns was good on first viewing, but try watching it again today and I think it's far too dark to enjoy again.

I loved the way this movie looked.
Remembering the "gangster movie" segment from The Great Movie Ride at WDW,I always thought it was a shame they never built that "Dick Tracy" ride;the idea was abandoned when the movie wasn't a huge hit.

I guess I can see the movie future.
uttermeamumble 1 year ago
@ThePissedOff This is not a kid's movie. Only because it's colorful and made by Disney (the same guys who directed Return to Oz) it doesn't make it a kid's movie. This is a film for everyone, because it's also dark, edgy and violent, just like Batman (1989) .
Sin City is awsome, but Dick Tarcy is better than The Spirit.
DeepEye1994 9 months ago 18
@DeepEye1994
I agree it's as cool as Sin City and would you compare this to Nolan's batman movies as well?
Johnlindsey289 2 weeks ago
@DeepEye1994 What? Sin City is horrible...the only good character is Bruce Willis and all of the stories suck.

To everyone that says this movie was not a kids movie. this WAS a family movie. it was great for kids and adult alike. So it wasn't dancing animals and magic fairies. Who cares. There was no foul language, no hard core sex (or any sex for that matter). This movie was one of Disney's best films, before they turned into "every dog, cat, hamster, frog has to sing and dance and it all has to be animated by Pixar" crap.
headmouse 2 years ago 28
LoL! Its funny because its true!

...IT'S STILL AWESOME :D.
MGTRANSFORMER 2 years ago
Agreed, and I'd like to point out that it's a freakin shocker that there was actually a movie that Modona was in, that didn't have any sex in it!
squeefreak19 2 years ago
@headmouse Umm, Disney had singing animals LOOOOONG before Dick Tracy.
Disney is at its best when it's taking risks and trying new things, like Dick Tracy, Pirates of the Carribean, or yes, even the Pixar movies, which are indeed good.
It's at its worst when it's just just churning out cheap, crappy direct-to-DVD sequels to 50 year old movies (Bambi II? Cinderella III? Seriously?)
toddsmitts 2 years ago
The Pixar movies USED to be good, now they are just getting dumb. Toy story 3??? WHY???? Bolt, and the one with the hamsters. Enough of the singing hero animals that save the world.
headmouse 2 years ago 3
@headmouse Bolt wasn't a pixar movie. And I agree...it was lame.
DanielGardner 2 years ago
@headmouse: Bolt and G-Fail weren't made by Pixar. And if anything, Pixar's Up is a really damn great movie.
luisrox94 1 year ago
@headmouse Actually, Bolt, and 'the one with the hamsters' weren't made by Pixar studios. And Toy Story 3 was universally acclaimed.
Manusturbo 1 year ago
@headmouse bolt isn't pixar. it's just disney, not disney + pixar. and i was wondering what your problem was with toy story 3. i thought it was brilliant, and so did many others.
holocausticity 1 year ago
@headmouse
1. toy story 3 was pretty good, how many movies do you know that get 99% approval on rotten tomatoes
2. g-force, which was guinea pigs, not hamsters, was not made by pixar
3. what the fuck does a 1990 movie have to do with pixar
GTH8991 1 year ago
@headmouse You never actually SAW Toy Story 3, did you?
Plus, Bolt and "The one with the Hamsters" wasn't Pixar. That was Disney on their own
Dragonrider1227 1 year ago
@Dragonrider1227 Yes, I did see TS3. "WORST TOY STORY MOVIE EVER" they were reaching so far for a plot they had to literally reach into the dumpsters. Bolt was nothing more then yet ANOTHER "animal saves the world from bad guys" movie. Getting tiered of that. Think of something original.

@headmouse "This WAS a family movie"
Dick Tracy may have been a family movie but the original Chester Gould strip was far darker in tone with elements
almost of Film Noir and had memorable execution style deaths, torture, Femme Fatales and other elements that likely would have gotten a PG-13 or R rating if Beatty had gone in that direction.
cha5 2 years ago
@headmouse
It was kind of a spiritual followup to Batman....
Which is far more darker by the way.

I hear that this movie wasn't received that well (barely breaking "acceptable"). People who rated this movie at that time obviously didn't expect the crap that would be today's movies.
kenja0 2 years ago
Dick Tracy is very original, unique and funny movie. Warren Beatty was great. Madonna was no less impressive. Nice to know that she has not only "flop movies" but such great hits like this one.
