Occurrence of close range fight is the oath of disclosure of incompetence.

In UT99 it's all about control. Control items, control the position of the crosshair on your enemy, control by speed, controll by exploring all angles of the map, control by attention, etc. ... and you can learn something from every game mode.

Your point is taken ... but, if all you do is fight from long range via "control" tactics ... you're probably incompetent at fighting in close range anyways.

Control does not specifically imply the exclusion of close range fighting. It certainly doesn't in UT2004. Long range fighting has always required more skill than close range fighting in UT anyway. UT's close range weapons (especially in 99) are easy to hit and do ridiculous damage.

i agree that ut99 is the only good version.

as far as the video:

all i noticed was spam into random hallways, a LOT of missed combos that should have been easy to hit, with only a few shots that were ok. even then some of the combos were only aimed towards spawn points with nobody around. i say pick a more difficult opponent that isn't predictable and actually thinks before committing to a tactical decision, and spam less.

Typical deluded MLG player. Quick lesson:

Console controllers have a set X and Y sensitivity, while mouses do not. The faster you move a mouse, the faster you aim. The faster you move your joystick, guess what? Same speed, as it's a set variable; therefore, you can not "twitch" shoot or execute quick movements on a controller.

Aiming on a console shooter is also remedied with aim-acceleration and auto-aim. PC games do not need this.
