It started to hit me that it was the WTC about fifteen minutes before this scene. One of the first signs for me was as he was walking through the plaza between the towers. I recognized one of the statues and then I recognized how the windows were shaped. My heart dropped when it was confirmed. I will NEVER forget that day. Affected my family since my father is an air traffic controller who worked 9/11. He heard everything, no censors, completely raw. God bless him and everyone affected on 9/11.
@1945joshuaruiz well he is standing in one of the twin towers and on the board it says September 11th 2001 what was the day terrorist crashed into the twin towers
Wen i saw this movie, the minute i saw the date on the chalk board, i immediatly started screaming nooooo!!! I kept telling myself he wasnt dead and that he got out alive, but then i saw the grave. I cry every time i c the ending, but its a really good movie. Its taught me a lot.
My friend and I were bawling when we saw this. We didn't even notice it was the twin towers. We were just staring at the spot where Tyler was standing. Somebody pointed ourt the fact that it was the TT and that it was 9/11. We kept screaming and shouting, no! No! He can't die!
@mkIIgameplayer I haven't seen the movie, but the floor and location that he is standing is the exact spot where the first plane hit. See v=Ys41jnL2Elk and compare.
Does anyone else think that the sound of the roar of the jet engines should have been included? I was expecting it, but not hearing it did not give me the most dread and horror I could feel. Maybe this was the director's intention, but I just think it would be more complete if the sound was included
no the reason the 9-11 thing was put in was to sell the emotional point to the viewers which was not only offensive but shallow at best and this movie might have been semi-okay if the ending wasn't this, and the only reason people are reacting this way is cause of the prick from twilight, so fuck this movie
Amazing movie. So many clues and hints about the time period that are so easy to miss. Really shows you how it affected a typical new yorkers life in an instant.
911 was done by the US government, the towers were destroyed by explosives, not because of the fire (I do believe this). But the new ugly WTC towers can also become victims of terrorism or any kind of attacks. So then it doesnt matter which towers are being built. But I would like to see the new WTC Twin Towers 2.
@561excalibur Actually the twin towers came down by terrorists what crashed a PLANE into the buildings the JET FUEL WEAKENED the structure of the building the building got so weak it collapsed inwards then the floors starting to drop one buy one on each other until it hit the ground.
I <3d this movie bcus 4 people who didn't know nE1 who died that day it's 1 of those what a shame type things I can't believe it happened but move on with your lives situations but after seeing this movie u can relate and feel the pain of others and now 9/11 isn't just another day where something bad happened but a situation that does make me cry when I think about it bcus 2 me Tyler is not just a character but more like some1 I knew. I was young when it happened so I didn't grasp the effect b4
@561excalibur To be honest...I think they shouldn't. It would be disrespectful for the victims to just build it there again and go on as if nothing happend. And...who would want to work their anyway? I know I couldn't :(
This movie is full of tragedy. I kne this was comin, soon as u C the windows. I tell NEone whose going 2 watch this they better hide all butter knives cause u'll even want to use those 2 slit ur wrists. U connect so much w/ the characters, especially Tyler. Its like they want to give u a real feeling that can connect u 2 the loss that day. At least Tyler was in the spot 1st plane hit. He didn't suffer. Ironic. He did the whole movie. Can u imagine standing there w/ a plane coming strait at you?
I read the summary like an idiot and it ruined it for me.
But I was sitting in the theater and I saw the date on the chalk board and I was like screaming at the screen "you have to get out of the building!!. Nooooo!."):
Then it showed him in the building again and I like balling my eyes out.
I like cried for an hour after the movie was over.
Every time I wanna cry I go and watch this movie.:3
@iloveedyou8D What an awful movie to see on your birthday!!! I cried for days!! Its such a downer! But great acting. Robert should have been awarded for it. People unstate him because he is "the twilight kid" but he has amazing talent.
@9BiggestFan its about a guy named tyler who's brother killed himself because of the stress their father gave him, so the relationship between tyler and his father wasn't very close and nice anymore. tyler's little sister caroline, was a very good artist but was picked on at school, and her father never listened to her. and tyler had this huge problem with his father. then he meets this girl who feels his pain, and they get tg. then, tylers in the tower on 9/11 in his dads office and dies.
I don't understand why everyone thinks they just used the WTC ending for commercialism, or that it was "illicit". Ridiculous. Pearl Harbor has been in movies. The holocaust is in movies. I mean, it would've made more sense to everyone if they kept the original script (where his brother died in the '93 bombing instead of suicide) but I definitely don't think it was "to make money" -- I thought it was a great movie, and it really had a good message. I loved it.
@jacedward you can't tell the difference because you're an idiot. Britney Spears' movie and Citizen Kane are also equal, right? I mean, they were both played at movie theaters...
@jmsantander1 Haha I love when people are insulting for absolutely no reason. People have different opinions, right? My point was that so many disasters like this are portrayed in all kinds of movies, so I don't get why some people find one tragedy used in a movie more distasteful than others. It's a part of history now, just like other tragedies.
And, if you respond, I'd appreciate it if you could be civil and just have a normal discussion instead of being rude.
@jacedward Amen! It's amazing how .....cold some people can be! Sad. And Pearl Harbor is a good example because that was...to my knowledge, the first attack America experienced on home soil. But to hear some people talk, you'd that was an 'inside job'. Honest! There are people...probably living in their parents' basements, who believe that. Michael Moore disciples.
@reddishprince Well I think the point was that it really could have happened to anybody. It was just a normal day in NY. It's not like it was a 9-11 movie, so they couldn't advertise it that way really. The point is just that you should live life to the fullest, for every minute.
What I learned was, when the planes crashed into the WTC, the Pentagon and the field, they were going from 600-800 mph. So they basically disintegrated when they hit.
@ajpisharodi Glad I'm not the only one who found this scene extremely tacky!!!
But in fairness to this film, it's not the only one that has used the World Trade Center attacks for commercial gain. It was wholly unnecessary (and I'd argue even illogical) to have the World Trade Center attacks used in that piece of junk Adam Sandler film "Reign Over Me" as well.
@andell1 Agreed, although I suppose the premise of Reign on Me is not that bad, the fact that it is an Adam Sandler comedy with an 9/11 theme sickens me. Movies with 9/11 themes are not necessarily exploitative if they are sincere. Just like a movie about the Titanic can be sincere if it was meant to be, and I was in fact fascinated with the Titanic before 1997 and was excited when I heard about the movie. But seeing Cameron's phony empathy at the Oscars made be want to vomit.
@ajpisharodi Well no, "Reign Over Me" isn't actually a comedy...although it's easy to lose sight of that because once again, Adam Sandler acts crazy & out of control! The film technically is about a man who is going through Post Traumatic Stress Disorder...but they didn't need to use 9/11 for that...they could have just used an automobile accident!
It's like, if you want to ilicit sympathy in your plot, reference 9/11! It's ridiculous!
i remember seeing this in theaters. I had seen the trailer, but was unaware that it was related to September 11th or that it even took place in 2001. There was a shot of the WTC door handles in the theatrical version but i didn't process it until I saw the date written on the board at the school.
i will never forget that day. my teachers sister lived in manhattan & called her right after the 1st plane hit. We watched the second plane hit & the towers fall as it happened in NY.
Why the hell is everybody hating on the ending? Yeah, it left me sad, shocked. etc; but that's the beauty of it. It's sad, unfair, ironic, real; it's LIFE! Nobody hated the Titanic when Leo DeCaprio died, right? Why the hell is Robert Pattinson so different? It's the same damn thing!
But I gotta say, Titanic never made me shed a tear; I already knew the ending of this movie & I cried like a baby.
So yeah & if you don't like my opinion, sorry; I guess I really just don't give a damn.. <3
people forget, that the whole point of this film isn't the events of 9/11, it is the story about a family and one young man trying to put his life back together. i believe that the whole point of inserting 9/11 was to show that anything can happen at any given moment and take away everything in one split second. to sum it up, life is short, so you must make the most of what you have been given. i don't think it's an insult at all since that wasn't the focus of the film.
@JTMASTER7 They could've just as easily done that by having Pattinson's character get hit by a bus. Or die of disease. Or drown. Or any number of things that didn't force people who went through that horrible day to go to the movies and have to be reminded of that day without foreknowledge 9/11 would factor in.
The filmmakers knew the story was shit and added in 9/11 to make it more than what it was. And piss families of 9/11 victims off.
@WildWestSamurai pretty sure their intention wasn't to piss off families of 9/11 victims but okay it's your opinion. and you just made my point more clear, there was NO foreknowledge on 9/11 because that WASN'T the main focus of the story. 9/11 happened, it was a tragedy yes, but you know what? it's part of history now, America's history. there are films out there still being made about WWI, WWII, Vietnam, i could go on and on but do people get pissed about those? no.
@WildWestSamurai there are always going to be films made on past events, but if you actually watch the films, you would notice that the focus isn't always on the event itself, for some films anyway. 9/11 is part of our history now, and whether people like it or not, there will continue to films about it, whether the tragedy itself is the main focus or not. this movie shouldn't be a slap in the face to the victims because 9/11 is not the focus, the characters' stories are
@JTMASTER7 I'm not saying movies about 9/11 or other tragedies shouldn't get made! World Trade Center, United 93? All 9/11 movies. What I am saying is that those families and others who don't want to see that tragedy unfold on the big screen can choose NOT to watch them. This film robbed them of that choice by turning it into a twist ending. The twist ending is what makes it offensive. And I do argue that it DOES overshadow the rest of this badly written movie.
@WildWestSamurai oh my god it's a twist ending heaven forbid! if that whole ending seriously overshadows the movie then clearly that was the only part you paid attention to. and i think this film wasn't horribly written, i have read and seen worse. this movie didn't rob them of a choice, they still HAD a choice whether to go see it or not so don't say they didn't have a choice because of some twist ending, that is a lame reason.
@JTMASTER7 Oh, my God, how are you not following me?
Okay. Say your aunt was killed in 9/11. Terrible tragedy for your family that still burns years later. That's why you didn't watch United 93 or Reign Over Me. You knew what they were about. You didn't want to watch that again. Anyway, you're a Twilight fan, and you hear Pattinson is making a new film. "Remember Me" is the title. The trailers make it look like a love story. So you go see it. It's okay-ish. Then comes the ending...
@JTMASTER7 JTMaster7, that story is exactly what my ex-girlfriend went through. She had a choice? My ass, she had a choice! Was she angry? Well, it was probably the most upset I'd ever seen her. I personally haven't lost any loved ones to 9/11, but her pain over it was unmistakable. Because while other films have exploited the tragedy of 9/11, at least they were up front and honest with what they were about. "Remember Me" gave NO such indication. It was cheap and low.
@WildWestSamurai because it WAS NOT ABOUT THE EVENTS of 9/11 therefore they did not have to give indication. they are not required by law to give indication that this film has a 9/11 twist ending. and hey i'm sorry that your ex experienced that i really am, but you know what? everyone has a choice to go see a movie or not, you're really going to start the whole "well the victims of 9/11 didn't have a choice" bit? i'm sorry but that is not the topic of discussion here
@JTMASTER7 If it wasn't about 9/11, then why did it need to be in there at all?
AGAIN, Pattinson's character could've been run over by a bus. A car. Anything but a real-life tragedy. And if you dare say that wouldn't have made the same impact, that just shows how bad the story was. When compelling characters die, you feel it. "Cruel Intentions" had a character get hit by a car and his death was still powerful because he was a compelling character. This was a cheap emotional grab.
@WildWestSamurai the film is the topic and everyone had the option of going to see it or not. it's a movie about the characters' lives not the twist ending so get over it. 9/11 affected everyone in America and we all will remember it but at some point you have to move on, not forget but move on. it's a freakin' movie for crying out loud! if you don't like it, then don't watch it and don't comment on videos on the internet about it! you have that CHOICE after all
@JTMASTER7 "9/11 affected everyone in America"? "Move on"? Spoken like someone from X state X amount of miles from NYC who hasn't lost a loved one to that tragedy.
Yes, it's a movie, but it's insulting to the victims of 9/11 and the nature of the twist ending gave people who watched it in theaters NO choice in watching/not watching a 9/11-related movie. "Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close" isn't completely about 9/11, but at least the trailers clue you in on its involvement.
@WildWestSamurai um actually i am from CT, which is right next to NY and i do know a couple of people who went through that tragedy just an fyi. and extremely loud and incredibly close does involve 9/11 where as remember does not.
@JTMASTER7 "where as Remember does not"? The clip above begs to differ.
Also, you may want to ask those people what they think of this movie. Or, better yet, ask a 9/11 survivor who saw this movie not knowing of the ending beforehand.
@WildWestSamurai what i meant to say was that remember me does not focus on 9/11, it's just an ending to a movie. and hey to those survivors who saw this movie, 1.) it's a movie and 2.) they need to move on with their lives. may sound harsh but i am saying move on not forget, it is a MOVIE, and this one in particular with the exception of the ending is FICTION
@AshAsh1717 I'm not a troll, thank you. Just someone who found this film disgustingly exploitative. Every 9/11 survivor I know who is aware of this movie's ending, especially those who watched it not knowing the ending beforehand, hates it. It's exploitative. Yet you all call it artistic.
@WildWestSamurai who is calling it artistic? you have to realize something here, um...not everyone is going to AGREE with you something you obviously don't comprehend
@JTMASTER7 1. Again, they could've thrown Pattinson under a bus. 9/11's inclusion was unnecessary and exploitative.
2. I suggest you to talk to 9/11 survivors, including the ones you know, and give them that "Move on" speech. I knew a WWII survivor who suffered from PTSD and still had nightmares 60 years later before he passed away.
3. "Birth of a Nation" was "just" a movie. Still ticks lots of people off.
4. I'm aware not everyone's going to agree with me. 9/11 survivors have.
@JTMASTER7 And I'm done arguing with an apathetic lady who condescendingly refers to me as a kid, so the sentiment is mutual.
:) Now, off to work and then maybe "Underworld" afterwards with a couple friends who are 9/11 survivors, where the movie hopefully won't end with a twist that Selena's on a plane bearing the words United 93.
@AshAsh1717 It didn't start out as an argument, just me saying the twist ending was cheap and emotionally manipulative. Being run over by a bus would've worked just as well. I share the sentiment of critics, audience members who were offended, as well as 9/11 survivors. I admit I should've let the argument go earlier, though. Still, I have as much right to comment on this and put in my two cents that it's an okay film that became a horrible one in the last minute and 24 seconds.
@WildWestSamurai Yeah you have the right to an opinion, but not to be a condescending, narrow-minded asshole. I'm done. Don't reply to this comment. You'll be wasting my time and yours.
@jsnthompson4 Unfortunately, everyone has the right to be condescending, narrow-minded assholes. The Supreme Court ruled those jerks from the Westboro Baptist Church can still picket soldier's funerals, after all. That having been said, I'm not a condescending, narrow-minded asshole. Not a single comment I've posted here has been condescending or narrow-minded except once when my debating opponent was condescending to me. Thank you. :)
@WildWestSamurai I think my sister was using my account without thinking. I havn't seen this video or attacked you. Try reposting this to AshAsh1717. She's the one to respond to you not me.
It's funny in a "No, they didn't just pull that. Jesus they are going to do it." But the fact they try to pull an emotional reaction at the end to try to make it seem deep is insulting. Oh, and would it be considered a crime if I find everyone who thinks this ending is deep or emotional, and hit them with a bat?
@dkuch45 I its not a trick ending, so many innocent people died that day, just because they were living thier lives, normal everyday people. And saying ,"would it be considered a crime if I find everyone who thinks this ending is deep or emotional, and hit them with a bat?" is so pointless, yeah lets spread some more hate around. Thats exactly what the victims of 9/11 would want- go away and spend some time in deep thought, may then you'll grow up a bit and stop making such ignorant comments!

@dkuch45 u obviously are not getting my point, but everyone is entitled to their own opinion, I disagree with you. and I dont like ur comment about hitting people with a bat, its just pure hatred and violence, I guess you think thats ok. anyway lets just leave it at that.
@dkuch45 They used 9/11 not just to get emotions out of the viewer, they chose to play out this scene because it portrays how it was so unexpected, how normal, innocent people went about their day, living their lives, and lost them, no one saw it coming, it's called situational irony.
Okay, could someone spare me having to rent/watch a movie with Robert Pattinson in it and just kindly inform me why he was in the WTC on 9/11? And apparently right where the first plane impacted no less?
Did the director need him not just dead, but really dead, for some reason?
@Halo4Lyf- He was in the tower because he was supposed to meet with his father (who works in the WTC) and his father's lawyers to discuss an incident concerning his sister being bullied at a party.
@fyfytj Thanks a bunch, you spared me the horror of enduring a movie where the worst terrorist attack in American history was used as a plot device in a stupid fucking teen romance flick.
@Halo4Lyf- I'd still recommend watching it. There are a couple of annoying cliches in it, but overall I thought it was a pretty well done movie, and the ending was done in a respectful way.
@Halo4Lyf My point of view is that it is a 9/11 movie. I think it is a romance movie secondarily. I think the point of the movie is to show the shock of what happened. They wanted viewers to be totally shocked, as the event was shocking. The twist was meant to catch you completely off guard to give you a strong emotional reaction. The characters were shocked, as everyone was in real life were, and it shows that all the problems the characters had before this meant nothing when this happened.
@ilovekelly75 Thanks, but I just watched the Spill.com review of it, and if they rated it "some ol' bullshit" then I think I'm going to avoid this like the plague. As much as I love Emile de Ravin, I hate Robert Pattinson more, and throwing 9/11 in at the end is the worst kind of pandering imaginable.
@Halo4Lyf Well I think the first hour and a half is sub par, but I think this twist made it a great movie. You already know the twist though. I don't think it's tasteless or anything. Lots of movies are about historic tragedies, and many of them are also love stories (Titanic, Pearl Harbor, Gone With The Wind). I think this movie does a great job of expressing the shock and emotion the characters feel, and what we all felt, when 9/11 hit.
@ilovekelly75 I know you think you're arguing in favor of it by comparing it with Pearl Harbor and Titanic, but those two movies are terrible in my sight as well. Took what could've been amazing historical dramas and ruined them with angsty love stories.
A movie about 9/11, or any historical event, needs to stand on it's own. It's why movies like World Trade Center, United 93, and Tora Tora Tora are such masterpieces and this... just ain't.
The whole point of this movie was to show you guys the unplanned tragedy that everyone went through. You had to watch a character, love the character, and then in a matter of seconds see it all vanish.
I think it's safe to say that this movie changed my life.
Throughout the movie I really felt like I was a part of it all and when I saw the camera zooming out my heart really shattered. I felt like it was all really happening, honestly.
when this scene happened i was like ARE YOU KIDDING ME? no no no this is so not happening. some people that watched the movie are like well this movie sucks but when they see the 9/11 part they're like i understand the movie now. this movie means a lot to me since i lost loved ones in 9/11.
This right here was my exact reaction to this scene...... watch?v=E3GkDcDqtBA BEST MOVIE EVER! I don't think i've seen such amazing acting or a wonderful twist since the first time i saw the happening.
This scene made me really sad, no just for what happened to the character, "Tyler" was just a fictional character anyway, but because it reminded me -again- that innocent people were doing their day-to-day things and didn't know what was coming to them, and that includes the families, not just the ones that tragically died.
@gloriamargarita I think many more movies about 9/11 are soon to come! there were over 2000 deaths each person had a story! This movie had an unexpected epic twist!
i dont believe this is offensive.. all kinds of different people died that day.. and we will never know all their stories i personally think its a beautiful ending.. simple but with such an impact.. no we wernt expecting it when we watched the film.. but no-one expected it that day..to never mention 9/11 again i think would be more offensive towards the people who died!.. i think theres a fine line between exploiting a tragedy t o promote a film but this didnt do that.. this wasnt in the trailer
I don't get why you people think it's offensive. They actually put the date in the beginning and when they put 10 years later, you would know it's 2011. I admit I was surprised at the end but it was such a good twist. It made me feel what the people would feel like when they saw it happened. Surprised, devastated, and a lot of crying. This is why Tyler always day do things that makes other people remember you. And that's why the title is "Remember Me"
people who dislike this are stupid ... go rant about the movie on some forum other than youtube on someone who has every right to put up something like this ... if you dislike because of someone you lost, sorry for you but the title is honest with the video so PO
i was very upset at the end of this film i thought it was an amazing film that i could relate to because i have a bad relationship with my father and my life was sort of the same just with different tragerdeis it brought up a very sensitive subject for me and i think that they should have been a forwarning for this or not have it at all. if i was upset by this think of how a person who has lost a child or a partner felt when they thought they were just watching a harmless romance .
This movie was more then a romance movie, yes there was romance but it was not all about that. It was about a father, and a son. A daughter and a father, a sister and a Brother. A Young women who only had her father after her mother died. She was afraid of going on that subway but after Tyler died she faced her fear and went on, on herself. If you did not get that and only saw a romance then you really didn't see the story at all.
I am sorry but i dont get how this is offensive, if you believe it is then i am sure you did not get the meaning of the story. You should pay for attention to the words he says after this moment,if you did you would understand. This ending, is powerful and has deeper meaning. And it is not like you see the plane hitting the towers, it ends there, and then he talks showing different people that were in his life. And if was not just a romance movies You stupid people did you really not get it.
This is not offensive!!!!! Offensive would be him playing the terrorist that brought down the towers....If this is offensive then every year on September 11 is offensive... its not offensive its a way of remembering them/him "hint ,hint"
this movie isn't fucking offensive. fuck. as soon as you see r patz standing in the window, and you realize it's just before the planes hit - you think OH MY GOD all those people jumping, he would've been one of them trapped, he was this real person with this whole life and ppl that cared about him, and not just one person went through that over a thousand did, with their own huge lives.
@MsSchuk THANK YOU!!! You really nailed it. When we remember that day, most people just think about how many people died. This movie puts you in the shoes of a family that might've actually experienced it. You see the elevator going more than 85 floors up. You know he would of been one of the victims trapped in the building with no way to escape. People are networked in such a way that we are ALL affected by the event. This movie makes 9/11 more personal seeing how it really could've happened
This movie absolutely killed me. I never expected him to die..... it just seemed too real! But I love the movie and the tears I shed watching it! Team Robert Pattinson!
:)

@561excalibur Actually the twin towers came down by terrorists what crashed a PLANE into the buildings the JET FUEL WEAKENED the structure of the building the building got so weak it collapsed inwards then the floors starting to drop one buy one on each other until it hit the ground.

When I went to see this movie it was my birthday.

I mean, they were both played at movie theaters...
jmsantander1 5 months ago
@jmsantander1 Haha I love when people are insulting for absolutely no reason. People have different opinions, right? My point was that so many disasters like this are portrayed in all kinds of movies, so I don't get why some people find one tragedy used in a movie more distasteful than others. It's a part of history now, just like other tragedies.
And, if you respond, I'd appreciate it if you could be civil and just have a normal discussion instead of being rude.
inlovewithmgmt 5 months ago
@jacedward Amen! It's amazing how .....cold some people can be! Sad. And Pearl Harbor is a good example because that was...to my knowledge, the first attack America experienced on home soil. But to hear some people talk, you'd that was an 'inside job'. Honest! There are people...probably living in their parents' basements, who believe that. Michael Moore disciples.

@reddishprince Well I think the point was that it really could have happened to anybody. It was just a normal day in NY. It's not like it was a 9-11 movie, so they couldn't advertise it that way really. The point is just that you should live life to the fullest, for every minute.

ajpisharodi 5 months ago
@ajpisharodi Glad I'm not the only one who found this scene extremely tacky!!!
But in fairness to this film, it's not the only one that has used the World Trade Center attacks for commercial gain. It was wholly unnecessary (and I'd argue even illogical) to have the World Trade Center attacks used in that piece of junk Adam Sandler film "Reign Over Me" as well.
andell1 5 months ago
@andell1 Agreed, although I suppose the premise of Reign on Me is not that bad, the fact that it is an Adam Sandler comedy with an 9/11 theme sickens me. Movies with 9/11 themes are not necessarily exploitative if they are sincere. Just like a movie about the Titanic can be sincere if it was meant to be, and I was in fact fascinated with the Titanic before 1997 and was excited when I heard about the movie. But seeing Cameron's phony empathy at the Oscars made be want to vomit.
ajpisharodi 5 months ago
@ajpisharodi Well no, "Reign Over Me" isn't actually a comedy...although it's easy to lose sight of that because once again, Adam Sandler acts crazy & out of control! The film technically is about a man who is going through Post Traumatic Stress Disorder...but they didn't need to use 9/11 for that...they could have just used an automobile accident!
It's like, if you want to ilicit sympathy in your plot, reference 9/11! It's ridiculous!

people forget, that the whole point of this film isn't the events of 9/11, it is the story about a family and one young man trying to put his life back together. i believe that the whole point of inserting 9/11 was to show that anything can happen at any given moment and take away everything in one split second. to sum it up, life is short, so you must make the most of what you have been given. i don't think it's an insult at all since that wasn't the focus of the film.

JacobLvup 2 months ago
@JTMASTER7 They could've just as easily done that by having Pattinson's character get hit by a bus. Or die of disease. Or drown. Or any number of things that didn't force people who went through that horrible day to go to the movies and have to be reminded of that day without foreknowledge 9/11 would factor in.
The filmmakers knew the story was shit and added in 9/11 to make it more than what it was. And piss families of 9/11 victims off.
WildWestSamurai 1 month ago
@WildWestSamurai pretty sure their intention wasn't to piss off families of 9/11 victims but okay it's your opinion. and you just made my point more clear, there was NO foreknowledge on 9/11 because that WASN'T the main focus of the story. 9/11 happened, it was a tragedy yes, but you know what? it's part of history now, America's history. there are films out there still being made about WWI, WWII, Vietnam, i could go on and on but do people get pissed about those? no.
JTMASTER7 1 month ago
@WildWestSamurai there are always going to be films made on past events, but if you actually watch the films, you would notice that the focus isn't always on the event itself, for some films anyway. 9/11 is part of our history now, and whether people like it or not, there will continue to films about it, whether the tragedy itself is the main focus or not. this movie shouldn't be a slap in the face to the victims because 9/11 is not the focus, the characters' stories are
JTMASTER7 1 month ago
@JTMASTER7 I'm not saying movies about 9/11 or other tragedies shouldn't get made! World Trade Center, United 93? All 9/11 movies. What I am saying is that those families and others who don't want to see that tragedy unfold on the big screen can choose NOT to watch them. This film robbed them of that choice by turning it into a twist ending. The twist ending is what makes it offensive. And I do argue that it DOES overshadow the rest of this badly written movie.
WildWestSamurai 1 month ago
@WildWestSamurai oh my god it's a twist ending heaven forbid! if that whole ending seriously overshadows the movie then clearly that was the only part you paid attention to. and i think this film wasn't horribly written, i have read and seen worse. this movie didn't rob them of a choice, they still HAD a choice whether to go see it or not so don't say they didn't have a choice because of some twist ending, that is a lame reason.
JTMASTER7 1 month ago
@JTMASTER7 Oh, my God, how are you not following me?
Okay. Say your aunt was killed in 9/11. Terrible tragedy for your family that still burns years later. That's why you didn't watch United 93 or Reign Over Me. You knew what they were about. You didn't want to watch that again. Anyway, you're a Twilight fan, and you hear Pattinson is making a new film. "Remember Me" is the title. The trailers make it look like a love story. So you go see it. It's okay-ish. Then comes the ending...
WildWestSamurai 1 month ago
@JTMASTER7 JTMaster7, that story is exactly what my ex-girlfriend went through. She had a choice? My ass, she had a choice! Was she angry? Well, it was probably the most upset I'd ever seen her. I personally haven't lost any loved ones to 9/11, but her pain over it was unmistakable. Because while other films have exploited the tragedy of 9/11, at least they were up front and honest with what they were about. "Remember Me" gave NO such indication. It was cheap and low.
WildWestSamurai 1 month ago
@WildWestSamurai because it WAS NOT ABOUT THE EVENTS of 9/11 therefore they did not have to give indication. they are not required by law to give indication that this film has a 9/11 twist ending. and hey i'm sorry that your ex experienced that i really am, but you know what? everyone has a choice to go see a movie or not, you're really going to start the whole "well the victims of 9/11 didn't have a choice" bit? i'm sorry but that is not the topic of discussion here
JTMASTER7 1 month ago
@JTMASTER7 If it wasn't about 9/11, then why did it need to be in there at all?
AGAIN, Pattinson's character could've been run over by a bus. A car. Anything but a real-life tragedy. And if you dare say that wouldn't have made the same impact, that just shows how bad the story was. When compelling characters die, you feel it. "Cruel Intentions" had a character get hit by a car and his death was still powerful because he was a compelling character. This was a cheap emotional grab.
WildWestSamurai 1 month ago
@WildWestSamurai the film is the topic and everyone had the option of going to see it or not. it's a movie about the characters' lives not the twist ending so get over it. 9/11 affected everyone in America and we all will remember it but at some point you have to move on, not forget but move on. it's a freakin' movie for crying out loud! if you don't like it, then don't watch it and don't comment on videos on the internet about it! you have that CHOICE after all
JTMASTER7 1 month ago
@JTMASTER7 "9/11 affected everyone in America"? "Move on"? Spoken like someone from X state X amount of miles from NYC who hasn't lost a loved one to that tragedy.
Yes, it's a movie, but it's insulting to the victims of 9/11 and the nature of the twist ending gave people who watched it in theaters NO choice in watching/not watching a 9/11-related movie. "Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close" isn't completely about 9/11, but at least the trailers clue you in on its involvement.
WildWestSamurai 1 month ago
@WildWestSamurai um actually i am from CT, which is right next to NY and i do know a couple of people who went through that tragedy just an fyi. and extremely loud and incredibly close does involve 9/11 where as remember does not.
JTMASTER7 1 month ago
@JTMASTER7 "where as Remember does not"? The clip above begs to differ.
Also, you may want to ask those people what they think of this movie. Or, better yet, ask a 9/11 survivor who saw this movie not knowing of the ending beforehand.
WildWestSamurai 1 month ago

WildWestSamurai 1 month ago
@WildWestSamurai who is calling it artistic? you have to realize something here, um...not everyone is going to AGREE with you something you obviously don't comprehend
JTMASTER7 1 month ago
@JTMASTER7 1. Again, they could've thrown Pattinson under a bus. 9/11's inclusion was unnecessary and exploitative.
2. I suggest you to talk to 9/11 survivors, including the ones you know, and give them that "Move on" speech. I knew a WWII survivor who suffered from PTSD and still had nightmares 60 years later before he passed away.
3. "Birth of a Nation" was "just" a movie. Still ticks lots of people off.
4. I'm aware not everyone's going to agree with me. 9/11 survivors have.

:) Now, off to work and then maybe "Underworld" afterwards with a couple friends who are 9/11 survivors, where the movie hopefully won't end with a twist that Selena's on a plane bearing the words United 93.
WildWestSamurai 1 month ago 7
@WildWestSamurai Andddddd.... arguing relentlessly on YOUTUBE will solve this how???
AshAsh1717 1 month ago
@AshAsh1717 It didn't start out as an argument, just me saying the twist ending was cheap and emotionally manipulative. Being run over by a bus would've worked just as well. I share the sentiment of critics, audience members who were offended, as well as 9/11 survivors. I admit I should've let the argument go earlier, though. Still, I have as much right to comment on this and put in my two cents that it's an okay film that became a horrible one in the last minute and 24 seconds.

bellajacklil 5 months ago
@dkuch45 They used 9/11 not just to get emotions out of the viewer, they chose to play out this scene because it portrays how it was so unexpected, how normal, innocent people went about their day, living their lives, and lost them, no one saw it coming, it's called situational irony.

Okay, could someone spare me having to rent/watch a movie with Robert Pattinson in it and just kindly inform me why he was in the WTC on 9/11? And apparently right where the first plane impacted no less?
Did the director need him not just dead, but really dead, for some reason?
Halo4Lyf 6 months ago
@Halo4Lyf- He was in the tower because he was supposed to meet with his father (who works in the WTC) and his father's lawyers to discuss an incident concerning his sister being bullied at a party.

@fyfytj Thanks a bunch, you spared me the horror of enduring a movie where the worst terrorist attack in American history was used as a plot device in a stupid fucking teen romance flick.
Halo4Lyf 6 months ago
@Halo4Lyf- I'd still recommend watching it. There are a couple of annoying cliches in it, but overall I thought it was a pretty well done movie, and the ending was done in a respectful way.
fyfytj 6 months ago
@Halo4Lyf My point of view is that it is a 9/11 movie. I think it is a romance movie secondarily. I think the point of the movie is to show the shock of what happened. They wanted viewers to be totally shocked, as the event was shocking. The twist was meant to catch you completely off guard to give you a strong emotional reaction. The characters were shocked, as everyone was in real life were, and it shows that all the problems the characters had before this meant nothing when this happened.
ilovekelly75 6 months ago
@ilovekelly75 Thanks, but I just watched the Spill.com review of it, and if they rated it "some ol' bullshit" then I think I'm going to avoid this like the plague. As much as I love Emile de Ravin, I hate Robert Pattinson more, and throwing 9/11 in at the end is the worst kind of pandering imaginable.
Halo4Lyf 6 months ago
@Halo4Lyf Well I think the first hour and a half is sub par, but I think this twist made it a great movie. You already know the twist though. I don't think it's tasteless or anything. Lots of movies are about historic tragedies, and many of them are also love stories (Titanic, Pearl Harbor, Gone With The Wind). I think this movie does a great job of expressing the shock and emotion the characters feel, and what we all felt, when 9/11 hit.
ilovekelly75 6 months ago
@ilovekelly75 I know you think you're arguing in favor of it by comparing it with Pearl Harbor and Titanic, but those two movies are terrible in my sight as well. Took what could've been amazing historical dramas and ruined them with angsty love stories.
A movie about 9/11, or any historical event, needs to stand on it's own. It's why movies like World Trade Center, United 93, and Tora Tora Tora are such masterpieces and this... just ain't.

i dont believe this is offensive.. all kinds of different people died that day.. and we will never know all their stories i personally think its a beautiful ending.. simple but with such an impact.. no we wernt expecting it when we watched the film.. but no-one expected it that day..to never mention 9/11 again i think would be more offensive towards the people who died!.. i think theres a fine line between exploiting a tragedy t o promote a film but this didnt do that.. this wasnt in the trailer

First time I watched this, I knew it was called "remember me" for a reason, then when I saw the date on the board I was like "NO! They wouldn't!!!?"
